Into the wastes

Berethor the typical Lone Ranger with instinct and precision begins forming a plan, or at least his part in the group. For, he realized he was not alone, and would need this groups assistance if he wanted or liked it, the necessity of made his desires a mute point.

Clearing his throat before awkwardly speaking, his common heavily accented by orcish and obviously his second language. “The desert will provide, it will take me time. We have not much food, where others see sand, I find.” Without hesitation his voice matter a factly. “The others that left before, they carry much, and are not worthy. We may be able to track them, what is there’s can be ours. It is the way.”

For the first two days Berethor, now joining him Shiva, will remain with the group taking stock of them, he is not worried about getting food when needed at the moment.

Re: Into the wastes

Nodding to her new traveling companions, Oro mounts a camel, and starts trotting off into the desert.
Aeris has loaded up the camel with a tent, some water, food & wood.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Here is what I noted, but your Bulk figures for water & food up give fractions when divided by 7
Camel (84 Bulk, @150 = Encumbered)
1 large tent, 10 feet x 20 feet in size, takes 40 min' to set up (50 bulk)
2 days of water for the entire party (14 bulk)
2 bundles of firewood, 1 night's fire each (16 bulk)
2 days of of dried meat, & 2 days of dried fruit nuts and leaven bread (4 bulk)

Aeris nods to Berethor:
"Yes, the desert does provide! I am Aeris. You?"

Seeing the obelisks, Aeris will look around, scanning the moonlit desert as best she can, and approach to see what is written.
Doing so, she remains on the tracks they are following.

"but really Mr er eh, I didn't catch your name sir?.. Must we track them down and steal their supplies? Like me those men were condemned to death, now with a new chance at life should we truly deny them that? Ho look there by golly.. Obelisks! And they have something written upon them. Perhaps they will give us directions?"

says Dr Rajeed from the back of his camel as he sways along with it's easy gait.

"What say you Mr Vander? you have always had a better eye for that sort of thing by ishabeebp."

Re: Into the wastes

Aeris smiles at Dr. Rajeed, pointing to the two vials he received from the Dwarf.
She addresses her in "Aeris-Dwarven", that language that Aeris thinks is Dwarven, but is not exactly the correct think:
"Bank looloo!"

Glancing back at the Goblin, in less distorted Common:
"Greetings, Mr. Vander. I am Aeris."

Into the wastes

Taking the vials from the Dwarf, "Berethor is what they call me. It is not a matter that we must track them, it is survival, what they have we need. If we have the opportunity why not take it?" His question is not a quandary about taking life, but rather why the Dwarf is resistant to taking what they need. Would he rather be prey than the hunter?

In reply to Dr Rajeed (msg # 20):

Vander had been fairly quiet up till now. Packing up his camel and glaring at the soldiers as they left them all to the desert. He finally notices the Doctor talking to him. "Vander know common little bit." He holds a green thumb and forefinger a small space apart.

He nods at Oro as the man speaks to him. He adjusts something around his neck, the vial of antidote the Doctor gave him earlier. Then he turns back to the doctor. "Let me check big stones first. Might be trapped. I do have good eye for that..."

Re: Into the wastes

Moving closer to the Obelisks Vander inspects for traps. The large carved glyphs upon the stone which is more of a pictogram read, "THE GATES OF SULE CURSE YE WHO ENTER UNBIDDEN".

OOC: perception for trap checking please Vander.

For future reference please if you are going to do something post what you think is the suitable roll with your post this way the game won't be stalled. I would rather have your roll made and choose not to use it than wait for you to roll after asking for it.

Re: Into the wastes

In addition to the gear provided, Lupine saddled up a few more large sacks of gear - all neatly and tightly packed, but fairly bulky.  He set a floating ball of fire spinning about his head, lighting the way for those who needed a bit more than starlight.

He eyed the orc-ling suspiciously.  Anyone out looking for a fight so readily could be dangerous to be around for multiple reasons.  "I'd not tempt fate.  Even if I were inclined, mayhaps they win?"

"You check for hazards; this one shall assist after searching for curses."  Lupine announced, pointing his knotted staff towards the pillars.  After a moment, he slid to the ground and examined the area more closely.

OOC: Lupine is taking a camel.  He's not entirely sure what a horse is, but they look fragile to him.

In terms of encumbrance, I calculated in the entire weight of a tent; either Lupine is sleeping alone or carrying the tent for his buddy.

Vander you find no traps around the pillars but the sands outside the path that lies between the pillars is a fine grey dust that looks unsafe.
Lupine you find nothing of danger about the pillars and like Vander you read the Obelisk seeing the words,

"THE GATES OF SULE CURSE YE WHO ENTER UNBIDDEN"

How would the group like to proceed?

In reply to Oro (msg # 21):

Not knowing quite what the monk named Oro is saying to him when he hands him the potions. This is the second time he has made no sense. Perhaps he was borne special with Tourette syndrome as they taught you in a university. Or perhaps he had some damage to the brain. He had ignored the first time hoping it was the former but now he knew it was the latter. So with over exaugurated mouth movements and hand gestures, his words pronounced slow like to a dumb child and louder like he may be deaf,

"AARRREEE YOOUU OOKKAAAY? Yoouu seeem too have troouuble speeaakiiing? Have yooouu annn injured toonguue?"

He gestures toward his mouth sticking out his own tongue.

Re: Into the wastes

It seemed a simple enough phrase.  Given the lack of detectable magic, Lupine wasn't going to let a baseless text stop him.  Besides.

The elf fished out his writ from within the folds of his loose garb and unfurled it.  "Pease be unto the spirits of this place; this one has been bidden to freely enter."  He announced to no one in particular, and simultaneously to all who may be watching.  Contented that he had covered any sanctified bases there might be - a field beyond much of his ken - Lupine strolled back over to his camel and mounted up, expectantly glancing at his companions.  "I am prepared, though this one would humbly suggest some measure of appeasement to the lesser gods before we continue."

Re: Into the wastes

Vander said nothing about the gods. They certainly had nothing to say to him. He accepted the idea they existed...there was too much horrible stuff running around and wiping people out to say otherwise. The question was where any of them any 'good'. Everything Vander had experienced made him think otherwise. At best they where just another powerful ruler, cruel when they wished and kind to those who obey. Vander had learned the hard way to keep those thoughts to himself...

Into the wastes

The mention of the Gods caught his attention. Spirits and the ancestors held a powerful place within his tribe. Honoring those that walked and championed before was needed to gain continual strength and blessing. It was taught by the Shamans from his earliest memory, there was only one god that took reverence among him and his people Gozreh. It was a bad omen to begin a hunt without offering something to Gozreh.

Nothing to offer. Berethor dismounts his horse and walks ahead of the group facing the direction of his tribe. In Orcish gives a chant used before all his hunts. Normally he would take his first kill or livestock they had and offer it. However without either he draws his knife across the palm of his hand, were a scar from previous offerings given in this way remains. Chanting the whole time he holds out his hand as the blood drips onto the sand, he then takes the sand now drenched in his blood and rubs his hands in it lifting his arms full of sand and blood above his head. As his chant ends the sand drops. With his fingers his draws a symbol on his face both of blood and sand.

“I have given an offering. We will be protected, and watched by my ancestors they will hear my call even across this great distance.” Mounting he goes forward leading the way through the obelisks.

Into the wastes

The Doc feeling the spiritual healing take a wooden star worm within his jerkin kisses it then holds it to the night sky allowing the starlight to fall upon it. He speaks in a clear resounding voice strange words,

“ सितारों की मां हमें इन कचरे के माध्यम से मार्गदर्शन और हमारे शिविर पर गर्मी और सुरक्षा लाने के लिए ।अपने प्रकाश हमें रास्ता दिखा सकते हैं ।“

As his words die the tip of the 10’ sick with a carrot hanging from one end, (he uses it to encourage Gertrudes movement) glows with the light of the stars. Illuminating 20’ all around and of course lighting up the prized carrot like a beacon to his camel. Her prize once again in view Gertrude is off moving at an even walk after her carrot. Looking back at his new companions over his shoulder the Doc shouts,

“By golly her blessings are still with us friends. ONWARD!”

As he continues to follow the tracks into the desert.

Into the wastes

With a new light lighting the way you all continue into the desert. Hours pass and you must cover your selves from the chill of the night . This does nothing to moisten the air. The dryness leaving you all parched. The sky line to the east is lightening, the wastes that surround you seem never ending. It is as the suns first harsh rays fall upon you instantly burning the nights chill away, that you see it.. Ahead of you, a large stone obelisk lies askew on it’s side in the yellow grey sands. The tracks lead up to it then split half going north-east half north west. Again there is something written upon the obelisk but you cannot read it without digging away the sand that covers much of the text.

What now desert plunderers?

Lupine hovered closer, equally interested in the stone pillar.  His eyes seemed to be focused on the wrong areas to even detect writing, though he began to ponder other possibilities to the significance of the obelisks.  Perhaps the text was not so important as was the nature and structure as was the magical significance, or at least some arcane convention involving where and why to build such structures.
