Lupine read the words once to himself, cleared his throat, and repeated it for the others in a tone that suggested an informed disdain for the high born.

In reply to Lupine Vedetian (msg # 44):

The words upon the obelisk trigger a memory for you..

[Private to Lupine Vedetian: The tales of the pharaoh's greatness were surpassed only by the tales of their wealth. Many wonderous items of antiquity vanished from the knowledge of men. These treasures are rumored to be within the pharaohs tombs, great pyramids hidden in the deserts, protected by traps and loyal servants. Surely untold wealth can still be found there.]

[Private to Dr Rajeed: The greatest pharaoh of the ancient days was entombed in a great city. The city was cursed, berried under the sands of time. The accursed power and wealth sits there still berried in a city under the desert sands.]

Into the wastes

"I have heard of great treasures hidden in the deserts. It was said the greatest pharaoh of the ancient days was entombed in a great city. So great was his evil the city was cursed, and berried under the sands of time. His accursed power and wealth sits there still berried in a city under the desert sands. Golly do you think this "Pazar" could be that city?"

Says Doc from the back of his camel looking down at Lupine and Vander.

"Does it indicate at all which way we need to go?"

"Hold one before you go further Rajeed." Sakinah said softly, yet firmly. She will look in either direction, then begins to examine the paths indicated by the Obelisk to see if the previous group took either direction as a preferred direction, or if either of the paths is more travelled.

Vander follows the doctor, keeping an eye out for nasty surprises or ambushes. Of course, he will urge the doc to heed a skilled tracker rather than his own directions. "Let someone else take the lead, Doctor. We don't want to get separated out here."

Berethor begins looking around at the footprints, deciding which are older, if any, and how many people are traveling each way.

"Do you recall any landmarks that go along with that story Doc? It has been years, and the sands move. But major landmarks may help up move in the right direction at least."

"Separation is perhaps a death sentence, when there are other groups with similar aims and fewer scruples."  The elf agreed.  Considering the request for landmarks, he thought through the relevant chapters of his life spent wandering the local deserts and shared what he could recall aloud.

The tracks that lead off to the northeast are the most recent and more numerous, than the tracks to the northwest.

As you have stood here inspecting the obelisk the sun has risen and it's harsh rays pound down on you all like the beat of a drum. The sands are becoming hot and you all feel like you have been placed in a furnace.

"And aught continue to do so.  Shelter would be welcome now, rather than in a few hours.  The shifting sands are not kind to those who would presume to walk them."  The elf cautioned, quickly shifting his garments to protect any exposed flesh and stowing the ball of fire encircling him.  There was hardly a need for it, with a much larger source of light filling the sky.

Re: Into the wastes

As the sun rises all of you accept Lupine quickly realize the heat in these desolate sands is rising higher and quicker than any of you have felt before. If it continues like this you know that furnace would be an understatement.

OOC all of you would realize that if the temperature keeps rising like this you will be taking heat damage within the hour (1d6 but the temp looks like it will hit 50+ celcious today
It takes 40 min to erect the tents

“Ruurrnnnuuur “ moans Gertrude

“Golly! Okie Gertrude! My fellows let us camp now we can continue when it gets cooler. No use in rushing to the same fate as those that have gone before us. Come can someone help with these tents?”

The Doc gets off his camel and begins to unpack the pavilion stowed upon it. Once settled he says his prayers and tries to rest.

Rest for a full 8 hours hopefully the afternoon will be cooler.

Re: Into the wastes

OOC: I am going to move things forward. I am going to assume you move on to the north east after a days rest. Can I get some perception checks. Berethor, you have a feat that allows you to use survival for this roll if you choose.

For a complete day you all rest in the blistering heat sheltered by your tents you all eat and feel as replenished as you can given the horrible heat. As the temperature falls in the late afternoon you are able to break camp and continue on your way. For six more hours you travel into the night your way lit by the waxing moon, and directed onward by the tracks that remain in the sand.

It is at nearing midnight when you all come upon the upper half of a statue that thrusts up from the ash dunes of the desert 100ft before you. The statues noble face is pockmarked and scarred by the ravages of time and sand. The statue seems to be holding a tablet, half berried in the sand, against it's chest.
