Hi! Hello everyone. I think we have enough applicants and approved characters for the time being, so I have shut off the Requesting Players notice.

There is definitely an interesting mix of characters that should create some good stories. I'm going to spend the day building up some missions and potential story hooks for people to follow. If you have any questions you can send me a message through your initial RTJ message, ask them in this thread, or even in the Ideas/Suggestions/Questions thread.

I still need to fill in the Marketplace with details, but if anyone wants to change up their equipment you can sell things from your class and background at half price. Currently anything you can afford in the Equipment section of the PHB is open at standard price.

Hello. Jedi Guardian here.

I added a new post to the bottom of the house rules to cover level ups as I realize I forgot it in the other posts. Whoops.

But this brings up a point that was being considered: Would you all prefer the normal experience points system or Milestone leveling? Milestone would be more subjective as to when they are given, so the character progression pace would be very much under my control versus accumulating enough numbers to go up. A level could also be offered as part of the reward for some missions that are particularly long and/or plot critical.

Thoughts?

I'm more of a milestone guy myself.

But I'm playing less of a pure combat character.

I'm used to milestone leveling, but am fine with either.

It's the GM's preference. But this GM usually uses Milestone leveling.

Well that's three for Milestone. I myself have not been in a game run by a GM using it, but it is really appealing.

Also, if you do not have your character sheet filled out yet, please get that done as soon as you can. I think I made sure everyone has access to one? If not, please let me know.

I run a game where XP is gained per post. In the game threads only. Level threshold is normal XP needed/ 10 so once they hit 35 posts boom they all leveled up to lvl 2 and so on. It was fast at first but leveled off

We are just over a year and a half into the game and they are level 6.

Milestone is fine as well.

Feeling a little outnumbered...

Milestone's fine. The only real problem I've had is PbP being so glacial in pace (relative to table play) that the GM just kind of forgets that advancement is a thing, since scenes can take weeks and it feels weird to level after what might be a few days in game time, but a few months of RL.

Jeesh, no Jensaarai, no witches?  I personally far prefer the other traditions over the Jedi/Sith Dichotomy.  Although I do really like the Grey Jedi code.

I can always make them appear. =D I did have initial plans for at least one NPC to be a form of Matukai, so there is that to look forward to.

I mean....I could play something else if it will be a problem or if the group wants more variety. I picked Guardian to be somewhat simple honestly.

Play whatever you want. Any group can work no matter the makeup. It's all about good roleplay and sometimes out of the box thinking.

I just need to do some research and see how a sith and a jedi can work together...that one's going to be interesting.

but to be honest I'm not all that up on the cannon, lore, ect so maybe its not an issue at all.

Well, I was also referring to having 2 Guardians in the group (though I'm sure at least some of the character won't mind having 2 people to maybe hide behind).

Sorry, not trying to pooh on anyone, :)  I just always wonder why no one plays the other force traditions.  The Jedi and the Sith seem so... extreme, in their ideologies, lol.

I have no desire to be mindlessly extreme. The goal is to make the game/ party work.

I don't need to take the jedi background so maybe I'll look into this tomorrow. it was just the quick build suggestion and being new to this version thought I'd just follow the suggestions.

No worries about the group compositions. The intention being sandbox and having this many players is there can be 2-3 groups at one time instead of one massive party. But I like to think I am flexible and can accommodate almost any situation.

If need be, I can also do solo missions. One of the best games I was ever in was technically solo, though they had multiple NPCs that would rotate in and out.

I DO in fact play other force traditions (and non-force users). My last Force User was in a Saga Edition game and was a member of The Tyia (https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/The_Tyia).

I'm kinda sad they do not have the utility belt in this version, lol.

There's a lot of room in there. Plus, a lot of the "gray" philosophies mainly just end up "Jedi, but we ignore this one thing we don't like." It -has- been long enough that the Revanites to have recovered/reformed from the purge from the time of the MMO. I might actually need to consider that.

But as I envision her, Lina's not walking around flaying people for fun. I did consider that there wouldn't be enough Sith to have Team Dark Side, and to boot I wouldn't really enjoy playing someone reminiscent of, say, Darth Malak from KOTOR.

She's selfish, and was raised in an environment where she was incentivized to be passionate about her endeavors and make decisions in her own best interests. Plenty of folks in the Republic and everywhere in-between with that outlook. The only mission/quest structures that seem ill-suited are things that both directly benefit the Republic politically -and- lack some kind of personal incentive (you don't have to look very far or very deep into Sith history to discover a rich tradition of helping the Republic screw over some other Sith). As we start the game, at least. Who knows how she'll develop.

EDIT: Okay, if I remain the only Sith, I think I've actually convinced myself that playing a Revanite would be pretty cool. Messing around with my sheet...

I'll be your Codru-Ji Drunken Master monk. Since we are talking alternate Force users, I'm the ultimate of that. Monks in this system are force users similar to Force Adepts in previous editions. Trickster style is drunken master style, "stumbling and bumbling their way to victory." This is going to be a blast!

That is actually one of the videos I was reviewing when working out the timeline. Yes, that is the timeframe, so Eternal Empire might be a possible encounter.

The Background feat is taken when you pick the background. The designer is a big proponent of feats.

I'm excited to have a sith in the group. I feel it would make an interesting dynamic.

I think my sheet is mostly done. I'm sure it will need a few tweaks.

Okay, work done and resulting headache going away, so I am catching up on replies and reviews.

One thing that was brought up that I'm going to put here: Because of the way the Force works - and I cannot find anything that says otherwise - I am going to rule that you do not need a free hand to use Forcecasting.

You do need to be proficient in the armor you have on if you are wearing any. That part at least had a box noting it, but it mentioned about "complex hand gestures" and the Force just doesn't work that way? Lots of patches and gaps, but when it has largely been one person I cannot fault them too much.

Unless anyone has noticed the rule regarding a free hand to cast? I may have glossed over it with all the text review.

I would say that armor proficiency is restricted by different classes. Counselor gets no armor. And the Guardian and the Sentinel only gets light armor.

Guardian gets Medium Armor, actually.

Yep, Consular gets no proficiency (a la Sorcerer), Sentinel gets Light Armor, and Guardian has Light and Medium. Only the Fighter has starting access to Heavy Armor.

We're getting down to the line! I may have set myself up for it, but I will get language groups assigned once everyone has their picks so I know who goes in what group. =D Then I know what to use that no one knows, muahahaha!

Everyone is free to start posting in game at this point. Just make sure you have a color chosen for speech so it is easy to recognize. It is up to you if you want to make sure you have a different color from everyone else.

Yup. All Codru-Ji have 4 arms. At third level Im taking the Trickstsr archetype, which is drunken boxing style. I hope to pull off a whole Peter Vankmen meets Legend of Drunken Master vibe.

Would it make sense to create a "Comms" language group for the comlinks?
Or it could be named "Comlink". Whatever works.

Right now the Docking Bay is a general catchall thread instead of having Bay 1-?? listed individually. If you would like a dedicated bay as a thread I can certainly make that. You can even choose the number, if you like.

I'm mulling that one over. Comms are a fun PbP consideration due to communications across  different threads. Those close to the communicator could possibly overhear or could be meant to hear a general conversation. Also, anyone with the "Comm" language would be able to read, too. I think it is going to boil down to an honor system to not meta if the communication was meant to be private. Definitely still open to considerations and tweaks.

If a Comlink conversation is meant to be private, I would recommend using a Private Line within the IC thread. I'd like to keep all of the PM (Private Messages) not be In Character posts. Very difficult to reference those PM a year later :)

The bays are partitioned off, but none are really isolated, per se. Because of the small ship she can easily have a bay far away from the busier commerce area occupied by the larger freighters and passenger ships. There will still be some activity, but far less by comparison. Does that work out?

I think that's the main issue. Most of us don't know anyone at the station so it's a bit hard to jump on a mission together. I'd like a chance to role play a bit with anyone interested. I'm not really ready to hop right into a mission and a bit of time playing him will help me flesh things out a bit too. Give us a reason to head out against some threat or opportunity.

On a funny side note, I don't know how many of you saw, but there is a KOTOR remake in the works. I swear I did not know about it until after I proposed the game, but the timing was funny.

I mean....I love that game (both I and II) but I would have preferred a new one instead oa remake. Shrug. Still, beggars can't be choosers I guess, lol.

Yeah, KOTOR 3 would have been great, but with the way Bioware is and EA in general I think a remake is all we're going to get for now.

I never payed much attention to KOTOR or anything outside of the movies, the clone wars (cartoon) and a few other shows. Don't know if any of those crossed into different types of timeline/histories/etc.

I don't know much about "canon" stuff (I had to do a lot of reading to make this character, lol).  i love Star Wars but I have found that the more "hardcore" fans are the bigger buttheads they become, lol.  I did LOVE KOTOR and I tried to play the MMO but it was really WoWish.

Luckily for this game in particular, the KOTOR/2/TOR section of the Star Wars expanded universe is the only slice that really appeals to me. Aside from the sheer impact of the original trilogy, of course.

Whew, people are excited for some reason. =o It's like they want to do work for pay. Caught up on reading, so will be replying shortly. Just had the conclusion to a fun month for my best friend and housemate that took most of my day. She's doing well now, but some stuff coming up in August that will see me extra slow to being away for a few days as we find out the details.

Yeah, the Old Republic era has a distinct lack of meddling by both Lucas and Disney, so that enhances it as the best time. Plus it is so long with easily referenced ships, equipment, etc. that (also because of KOTOR) it is easily recognizable.

I joke about the only good thing to come out of the 'prequel' movies was the Clone Wars cartoon. I have played many SW video games, some better than others. I've read some of the novels. I own a lot of the old West End Games d6 Star Wars stuff (love that game for some reason). I have read a fair amount of the comics too (I thought the Legacy era was pretty interesting, and the New Jedi Order era was...okay).

No Disney+, but I am interested in seeing it. As far as Clone Wars, they did Grievous dirty for how awesome he was set up to be in the animated shorts.

There is a YouTuber who basically narrated his fanfiction to fix the prequel trilogy and it was really good, imo. Maul doesn't bite it in Ep 1, Anakin is already a Jedi with Obi-Wan, the clone army is actually a Sith creation of an orc-like species to dominate the Republic, Yoda doesn't just quit after one fight with Sidious who is also showing he is super-powerful with the Dark Side and not just "lightning bolt! lightning bolt!". Not perfect, but hella better and makes better story tie-ins to get people in their New Hope spots.

I haven't seen anything I dislike of Star Wars.  I enjoy all of the movies (1-3 being the most difficult to get through).  Empire, Solo, and Rogue One I watch all the time.  I watched Clone Wars once but I didn't enjoy it as much as I liked Rebels. The Mandolorian was good too but I think the explosion of "Baby Yoida" memes was a bit irritating.

Rogue One is the best of all the movies (sling your arrows, I will not budge). No Jedi, a bunch of Dirty Dozen esc soldier who know they are on a suicide mission, but go anyway for redemption. I cry every time it ends. It is beautiful.

My favorite quote was in a trailer but I don't think it made it into the movie, :(

Rogue one was great, but then again I've yet to dislike a movie with Donnie Yen in it. Chiruit and Baze were amazing.

I wonder...His last post was 10 days ago. It may be he has communicated an absence to the GM?

Mo's last login to the game was Monday. I will check-in with them to make sure all is well. I know I've been a bit lax this week. Lots of IRL things that shouldn't have been as time-consuming as they were, but things are mostly complete now and hopefully I will be avoiding a $100 fine from the city. =P

On another note, I have Dungeondraft & Wonderdraft for making maps, but I am so bad with integrating it right now that they will just be the rpol ASCII ones for the time being.

No response from Mo yet and no recent logins. I will NPC him in the background for the time being, but Tiana will have the major lead on her half of the ship for the time being.

Hi Everyone

Yeah, the game did kinda die. RL issues with my partner led to several visits to the doctor and a few rounds of medication that have been the absolute best. Now it turns out she is going to need some serious surgery and will be laid up for a few months, so we are going through prep for that. Afterwards I will be her caretaker until she is well enough. She's a slow healer already, so we're anticipating a long recovery.

As such I will not be able to give this game the attention you all deserve, so I will be shutting it down. Once things improve IRL I will look into a reboot if anyone is still interested at that point.

I apologize for all of the delays with this game. Everything was going well when I planned it in the Interest Check, then all started to go downhill. I appreciate all of you for playing.

When things settle down and I can devote more time to running I think I will end up rebooting the game rather than try to pick up where we left off.
