Loosely the Kharnath, not that she knows it. She's pretty much been left alone most of her life....her father withdrew when her mother died giving birth, her brother was very mean and when she was apprentice the mage was after a slave more than a pupil.

For HP, I think we'll start off with the average. Then for level up, allow the choice of roll or average.

For funding, Base + 100 GP

For spells, all official WotC allowed. Exploring Eberron and Morgrave Miscellany allowed. Other sources/custom bring it to me we can talk.

It's mainly due to the tools proficiencies giving situational advantage in Xanathar's, even if it ultimately doesn't come up it's nice to look at them and go "oh, that's a decent skill to have"

So brewer's you got persuasion and medicine, cook's utensils you have survival and medicine, and all tools have history . . .

If you have medicine on lock I might go in on foraging and the like as a cook

Speaking of proficiencies, Edward is mostly book smart, so I can't wait for that to start biting him in the ass. Nature vs Survival "What do you mean, some trees shouldn't be burned when wet?"

And I missed the tools giving situational advantage, I will have to check it out, seems like a cool mechanic.

Healing Elixir is in one of those weird positions. Considered by WotC, tested in Unearthed Arcana, rejected ultimately to be included in Xanathar or Tasha's. I don't think I like it.  I mean it is a good spell with obvious usefulness. Maybe I am just a bit of a purist. Wizards spending a day and pricy components to brew a potion of healing feels good. A wizard tinkering around with an alchemist set for a minute and mystically conjuring one seems a bit off. Maybe it feels like something is missing, maybe I just don't know like Wizards with low level healing.

I am going to say no for the spell as is.

Quick question (happy if someone provides it IC) - are we based at a Lightning Rail station? How far is it to the stones from which we should start the search? Do we take a train to there (if at a station), or walk/ride/something?

I mean, not to stand in for the DM answering but it appears we're either in Sharn's Cassan district or a local guildhall, looking I'm honestly unclear.

But though there isn't a lightning rail line on the maps, there's implied to be one that goes to the edge of Breland, right to the Graywalls.

I'm assuming (modified for where on the track we are) we'd be taking the line to Wroat and bridging off to the industrial lines to Gaelethspyre, Ardev, and likely then following a mining line to the Graywalls, with multiple possible smaller towns along the way

If I had to guess, the difficulty would be following the line from Ardev to the Graywalls, so if the DM or another player would clarify where on the line we are . . . that likely gives us an answer.

Pretty barren and dusty out in the west of Breland, so we'd be moving along the stones (hopefully next to them, in case of a passing train) in relative exposed and hot conditions

The Araximos Guild Hall is in Cassan's Bridge in the mid-tower Menthis Plateau. You will likely be travelling North along the commercial Lightning Rail lines to the capital Wroat, along the non-passenger Lightning Rail lines to Ardev, then along temporary Lightning Rail lines west to the Greywall Mountains. So basically exactly what he said.

Sorry if my post is all over the place. My initial feel was that we are close to the destination, and it seemed to read from doing the scouting and marching right away others felt the same.
With the update of how much travel is ahead of us, I tried to pivot to reflect that without retconning anything.

If something I post doesn't make sense/seems weird, please let me know and I will explain/update/fix it!

As an aside to be accurate for how long this will take (if it will help people roleplay), Terminus is in Lower Tavick's Landing (east side) and Cassan Bridge is in Middle Menthis (central pillar). The wards are connected by bridges at all levels. It takes 30 minutes to cross a ward (Middle Menthis to Middle Tavick's Landing or Lower Menthis) but time to cross Tavick's Landing wards and Dura wards is doubled (so an hour).

So we could descend to Lower Menthis (brothels, theatres and drinking holes) and go across to Terminus in 90 minutes. Or if we have something to do in Middle Tavick's Landing (Karrn expat district, marketplace, gravedigger's guild), we can essentially tack a half hour onto our journey.

I don't know if anyone's champing to roleplay stuff before we leave just . . . some local flavour and basic information.

I have been doing life for a long time, I have been a follower and a leader, I have done much, seen much.  I play my character as I see him, and, while he seems jovial, there is much to him that hides deep beneath the surface.  He is 160 years old, so he remembers peace and war.  I am 96 years his junior, I also remember most of my days.  If I seem to try to lead, or push in a direction, there is a reason that comes from having been there before.  Not the particular place, but the circumstance.  When shouted down, I will seem stung, but trust me, I have been shouted down before, and usually the results speak volumes.

Stepping of soapbox and taking a powder.

That's a nice sentiment. Not exactly sure what spurred it, but it's nice all the same.

Pertinent question: Is where your character is from evident?

I didn't really catch that he was approaching middle-age (or extremely venerable if he's a half-elf) previously, for instance.

Honestly for everyone, is WHERE you are from noticeable or are your characters generally a cipher?

He is a full elf, so he is still just a young adult according to elven society.  It would be impossible to know where he is from by just looking.  He has been everywhere, relatively, and there is rarely a place someone doesn't know him, or his family.  If you look closely today, and then tomorrow, you will see subtle changes in his appearance.  At times, he could even appear as someone else.  Think the old illusionist of AD&D and then add the cleric capabilities.

Thank you for sharing Sebastian. Like Greddark, I hope it was not prompted by some sleight. I love the dynamic we are building and can't wait for Sebastian to make us all closer! Although there might be misunderstandings along the way.

Likewise, Loner let me know if referring to him as it bothers you (even if it is not in the dialogue), that is also something that Edward needs to work on, but not so important I want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Finally, Greddark, I would say it is clear that Edward is native of Breland based on his features, accent and clothing style (although that one is easy to change).

Edward, no slight, just relating information early so you can know who and what I am (an old man who spent his life gathering information and analysing it).  The more we know about one another, the better we can make gameplay.  Thus the less chance of ghosting (I never ghost, I go in a blaze)

In reply to Sebastian (msg # 96):

(so likely not an Aereni elf, likely an "exile")

All I can go on is A) the text of the setting/system and B) what you give me

A) 5e moved the age of adulthood for elves back 10 years, but middle age for elves back in the 3.5 days (when the setting was made) was 175.

B) You say he's a young adult, then he's a young adult, it's not like this game's going to span a decade let alone a century so how you see him is good by me. Just know that means if he's a "young man", Greddark who is not and has met elves before is going to perhaps have some opinions on matters. A fun possible . . . disagreement is too strong a word I think

As to appearance, cool it shifts that's fun. I'm just wondering because you've made a point of talking about his age and his hidden depths. There's two general reasons to do that and it appears you're the "I'm playing a purposely secretive character" variety, which is fine, just don't want to be running up going "Explain your odd appearance! Where are you from!?" if that's just going to go around in circles IC

Greddark, as to the type of elf, Mark of the Shadow, as to the secretive, let's just say that it should enhance play, not bring a problem.  All changes will be for a reason, and sometimes it will be makeup, sometimes a spell (disguise self).  The only time he will "mess" with the party is early, so they know he is a joker at times, and then he will mess with folk in taverns and maybe in RP encounters, but the party will be used to it by then.

Well, this is all some Nice sharing :)
Might as Well add some. I like your sentiment of just putting stuff out there to get to know each other, sebastian. Especially since you mention ghosting, which I admiral I’ve been guilty of before. I’m a fairly introverted person, and also deal with ADD and bouts of depression, so it Can be hard to engage at times. It’s something I’ve gotten better at handling, thankfully. Kys know that if it seems at times that I’m very quiet, not participating much in comversation outside the IC stuff, it’s just because I’m bad at it. Not because of someone else.

As for Loner, he’s a pretty blank slate personality wise, simply because he never had the opportunity to develop. He was norm into the military, served for around two years, and then the war was suddenly over, He was free and the closest thing to his home, Cyre, was gone. So he’s very much still finding himself. On the flip side, the team Can have a very Big influence in what kind of person He becomes. As for looks, it isn’t really clear where he’s from, what with him being put together from parts of different warforged, and patchwork armor. The biggest clue is the fact that He uses Cyran military nomenclature and terms. Such as the Cyran salute dropped in… my first ic post, I Think.

Oh, and as for your question about his gender and calling him an It, Edward:
As a player, I do not care. It doesn’t bother me at all. And should that change in the future, for whatever reason, I Will mention it. As for Loner himself, He doesn’t tale much notice either. As of yet, gender and identity isn’t something He is thinking about. He might act more masculine, because that is how the people in his Old military unit acted, so He was influenced by it. (OOC, it’s because I am male, and absolute shit at Playing female characters. Not because I have anything against them, but because I simply don’t feel I Can play them convincingly. And if I can’t convince myself, a character just isn’t fun to play.)

Huh, guess sharing turned into oversharing. Aight, Imma go to bed now. It’s late and I’m rambling :p

I mean you're not wrong, but context in game Greddark's not even remotely close to facts. He and facts are on opposite tracks. But the people of 898 yk ago wouldn't have known any more or less about the history of ancient Wroat than the people of 998 yk. Breland has always been allowed to remain culturally distinct, there wouldn't be (as severe) a sudden nationalist revision.

Been through a lot of loss in my life.  We are the senior generation, and even siblings have started to pass away.  That is part of life, and probably less thought of as we get nearer to our own time.  That is probably why I like playing with younger folk, I don't fear losing them so soon.

For the history focused among you, it would be odd for King/Lord Mror to have had a byeshk hammer, as the metal is from the west of Khorvaire and he was a king in antiquity (like dark ages antiquity, not sure if he really existed) in the east.

Just more fun made up stuff from Greddark!

Well, that gets into things best discovered IC. I need something to work with until I'm up to speed on what's happening in the game, after all.

Besides, the DM is still going over the character, and I may need to tweak the story to match tweaks to the mech.

Oh, I don't need advice, at least not yet. I'm just waiting on the DM so I know how to finish the character.

But the class is Artificer, if it matters. Armorer, if "tank" didn't make that clear. Sorry, I tend to focus on abilities developed rather than actual class.

And even the class, right now, may give the DM issues, so that's not certain.

Yeah, someone had complained to their congressman about "getting smoked" at Fort Jackson, so drills weren't allowed to drop us for push-up, or butterflies, or mountain climbers (not that they didn't find away around it).  I learned never go above and beyond, even if you can do so easily, when you are being punished by drills.  ALWAYS make it seem like it hurts.

I spent a lot of my life on bases, glad that I had become civil service, but, unfortunately, that thing about doing no more than asked has become a way of life across the fed.  You don't get paid to excel, and when you do, some boss up the line gets credit for it.  Now, mind you, that didn't always stop me, and once in a while, someone recognized it, but, I never worked for them.  I worked for myself and for God.  My purpose was never just the job, but to be an example.

I think what Greddark is trying to say is that warforged have stone and darkwood in addition to metal plating because it gives them mobility and flexibility in their joints. So if you'd base your armor off a warforged and replaced all the extra parts with metal then you'd be left with something similar to and Iron Man mark-01 is what I'd imagine. Sturdy and dang near impenetrable not great for walking around in.

OK, maybe more golem like. That was the 'high end warforged' reference: A solid bendable metal figure. And yes, I could see why someone would think it was uncomfortable, but...it isn't. Ain't magic grand?

But, not that the characters would know it, yet, it IS more ironman like. Presumably on purpose (of the designers, but note my character name acknowledging that). But not mark one. I went lighter than that for other reasons. Also, because I didn't want joints.

All the characters have seen is the metal man bit. The magical and mechanical genius  inside is still unknown.

Re: OOC

At this point, you have located the lost Lightning Rail, discovered that it was disabled by a Disintegration day, the crew killed by a combination of the disintegration ray and perhaps 'Trolls' (though that part is mostly Greddark supposition).

There are a few things that the group could do at this point:

-An investigation of the cargo car would find more about those bodies and searching for a manifest to verify the knowledge of the four.

-Continue to scour the area for tracks (This has failed two or three times already).

-Journey to Vidaris to relay the information you have found to the Adamantine mining camp and perhaps learn more about the region.

-Return to Ardev to relay the information you have found to the recipients of the ingots.

-Set up camp and check to see if anyone returns to the scene of the crime.

Not trying to be argumentative, Gredd, I just happened to have the amulet prepped against need, already. It seemed appropriate to use it to make a counterpoint.

Just checking, in case folks are waiting on me: Is the rabbit talking to Antony, who fed it, or Turnip, who cast a communication spell to talk to it? Or someone else or even all of us?

unfortunately guys, due to time restraints and being a health care worker in this day and age, i am going to have to withdraw from this game.

I wish you all the best, and to the gm, if things improve, i will message you to see if there is a possibility of rejoining once life settles.

Good luck all

Re: OOC

Well, the knee replacement that was scheduled for March was postponed due to Covid.  They rescheduled for the 6th of June, but then the hospital had a problem, and I found out that morning.  The surgeon moved it to the 9th at a different hospital, where he had done both my wife's knees.  Surgery seemed to go fine, but diabetes put my body into places it didn't want to go, so, while I should have gone home on the 13th, I am going home Thursday at lunch (About 4 hours from now)  Hard to walk, but I will get there over time.

I'm a diabetic having knee problems, but the VA says that it isn't service related because I never complained about a knee injury while I was in.  Theyare, however, giving me a topical ointment for the pain.  Have to rub it on my knee FOUR TIMES a day.

Re: OOC

Lucky me, I have a resistance or tolerance to pain killers.  Even at my age now, I burn through injected anaesthetics twice as fast as normal.  Over the counter pain meds have no effect on me at all.  Acetisalisylic Acid (aspirin), Ibuprofen, Acetomenaphin, Naproxen Sodium (Aleve), none of them, do me any good.  4 800mg Ibuprofen could not touch my pain.
How are you doing with the Covid?  Getting over it?
