Moccasin Oxsidi:
In reply to Calinda (msg # 30):
All I saw was this.
Traditional gaucho's "boots" are made with horse feet rawhide. Gauchos skin the animal and put the freshly skinned hides on their feet like socks, where they are left to dry, taking the user's feet shape. Like moccasins they are soft-soled. Like ancient Roman cothurnus, the rudimentary boots have no toe box and do not cover the toes completely.
I wonder if tree bark would make a decent sole? Need to do some research.
It does well enough, look up "bast" and birch bark soles.
You would need to use the bark fibres, rather than straight bark if you want it to last more than a few days, but soft bark could be used to patch holes (briefly).
Vraithe could absolutely bring half an armful of long strips of soft bark peeled from birch-analogues she finds during her wanderings back.
Stop by to visit her in the IC thread and she can hand it over ^^
