A place for us to discuss what campaign we want to do: what our characters will be, and how you want this thingy run.

I would prefer a module over sandbox or homebrew, I like the modules bc if something is stupid i can complain about WOTC, rather than if I made it myself I have to accept that I made something dumb. :)

I have access to everything on dndbeyond so whatever you guys wanna do is fine by me.

I have been reading Van Richtens and it's not really a module, it has a few pages talking about each place and I'd have to customize everything. There are no maps, etc. I'd prefer not to do that either.

REgardless of the campaign I want us to start at least at level 4.

Hello all!

Glad to be here. I am up for anything, although might be least interested in Revenloft.

I am fine with level 4, but wouldn't want to go too far up (10 might be an overkill in prep, but if everyone else is up for something like that, I'm game).

Finally, if you would be kind enough to read my crazy ideas here: link to a message in another game,
I would love to hear if you want to give any of it a try in this game!

In reply to deadlock (msg # 4):

that variant is fine by me if everyone else understands it. I'm a lazy DM and never check character sheets. I trust my players. if you start cheating I won't notice. If you guys mop up combats way too easily I'll just adjust the difficulty and keep going.

I don't like to use maps, I like to give players benefit of the doubt and try to have you win a combat within 3 rounds. Especially pbp we all wanna have interesting stories, not spend a month rolling to attack.

Hey guys!

I'm not strongly one way or the other on modules, but I'm totally down for Ravenloft or Mad Mage either one. Not really hip to Avernus, I like my D&D a little more D&D and a little less Mad Max.

As for Deadlocks variant... I'm not super familiar with 5e so if we decide to go this way I may need a little help figuring out how to make my character this way. As long as someone is willing to help me out I'm down.

I like Modules but they lack something say I want to open a business or other activity, well I hate walking loaded with wealth. So often like thinking long term security and spending it down trading gold or magic items.

Anyway I'm happy being accepted.

I'll give my choice of class even if it's seen as underpowered the Bard.

Modules are fine.

It would seem that I too have been chosen. Hello friends.

I just took a moment to get a synopsis of the modules, and there are two ideas that I really like.

The first is for Storm King's Thunder, which comes with high praise as a good balance of diplomacy, combat, and exploration, and seems like it has an open-ended structure that allows for a lot of player agency. Starting as fourth level characters would probably put the ball in our court for a little while, allowing us to take the time to really get into roleplay and flesh out the relationships between our characters. This module combined with the Yawning Portal and/or Ghosts of Salt Marsh as supplement sound like a dream combo that I'm seriously considering getting sometime down the line.

My second choice would be Dungeon of the Mad Mage, which sounds like a fun little rat maze to run through and have fun with. I can only imagine what kinds of exciting encounters await within a sprawling mega-dungeon.

Well rune, those were amazing sales pitches :D I will gladly play either so I think we have narrowed it down.

For classes I am broadly interested in Fighter, Ranger and Warlock, maybe with some multiclassing between two of the three. Either a duelist or an archer build.

Well using my dice I rolled very well so decided can fight okay and so a College of Lore Bard.

I won't be specialized much going Jack of All Trades but Master of Nine fits.

I'm not sure a Background but I'm mulling over options.

King, King, King ... nice adventure module. Woot!

For my character, I've come up with a multiclass that I'll call "Alternative Zealot Barbarian". I also like the idea of a character with the Blind Fighting fighting style who's blind 100% of the time.

Take the feat Alertness and Observation since sight isn't required keen hearing can let one read lips by hearing what is said. Add Blind-Fighting and the DM could give a free feat to help. There is a fictional precedent from Japan and cheesy Kung Fu movies.

I would tattoo his face and eyes and do Spartan style comments questioning the boss and such lose to a BLIND warrior.

I could play his sister Barbarians tend to respect women with valued skills a Lore Mistress should count. And she can help in areas blindness is an issue.

sounding like we have a plan.

since everyone is happy with any module, but youve all expressed interest in sandbox and not just dungeon delving- i’d like to start you off with a quick tales from yawning portal quest (of course quick probably equals 6 months in rpol time) that gets you all established in Waterdeep with a HQ and all that, then you can go dungeon of mad mage or saltmarsh.

let’s start at level 4 still, i hate the level 1-3 grind, the enemies are boring

Jack of All Trades is a crazy class feature the bonus spread would broken if it affected AC and Attack Rolls. Still it's pretty flexible ,duh, it fits the name.

Good afternoon ladies, gents, and mafia members. I heard we had a quitter. What does it look like the current group could benefit from having class-wise?

the quitter was a rogue, i think we might still want a roguy, but the bard or ranger can handle the normal rogue stuff if you wanna do something more magical.

We all gotta be quitters now and then.

I can embrace the rogue if we need one. Do we have heals? AoE damage/control?

Re: Session Zero

So we have a Bard, a Celestial Warlock, PalaBarb smite monkey, and I assume Daeph is the Ranger?

So we don't have a dedicated divine caster, but some heals, and we don't have anyone to handle locks and traps.

I've noticed a distinct lack of traps/locks in most of the published adventures, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a single one written into the entire module.

How are we on ranged vs melee?

Due to my character's vision, he is exclusively melee unless it gets very desperate. As you said, there isn't a dedicated healer, but I've got a few points of Lay on Hands to mess with and Cure Wounds prepared in an emergency where I haven't done smites.

Ok, I'm going to do Rogue 3/Cleric 1, so I can also contribute some heals, which should keep us balanced enough with three partial healers.

Gwend, are you going for more ranged or melee? I've considered ranged since we'll be indoors so much and space might be an issue, but I don't want Tyr face tanking everything if he's our only melee person. I can easily go either direction.
