In the 60s in Japan they started making 豆カメラ (literally bean camera, I don't know what they're called in English). They are quite tiny and were popular souvenirs among American troops serving.

If Himura had slightly more business acumen, or didn't have an intense loathing for capitalism, he might have wisely brought some of these along and sold them or traded them in a pinch.
