The Hinterlands and the Empire of Nagh

Nagh is a large empire of benevolent rulers running it as part monarchy and part republic. The Empire is by no means oppressive, meaning that native population in the Hinterlands would be integrated over time rather than conquered, non-violent, non-oppressive religions are all fine - basically, so many gods, especially local, exist, that it is hard to be sure when a name is just a different aspect of another god or something independent, and for the most part, no one cares. So you can make up or chose any god from any setting if you want and it will fit in.

The political situation is stable enough, thanks to the influence of several gods, corruption and  intrigues are at an all-time low and where the police can't cope, adventurers step in. Its cities can be grand and its villages small, and there are not too many people living on poverty. Money is not the goal of most people, just a means to an end. People rather think about how to be happy - even the criminals - which tends to make for an altogether happy society. Unfortunately, a lot of people have become complacent and easy to dupe, and terrorists or spies filtering in from other places use this to their advantage.

Nothing else needs to be known, as we won't likely be in the main part of the Empire. Now the Hinterlands are almost a quarter as big as the main Empire, and while not given any attention in maps portraying the Empire, it is a welcome buffer zone where Nyh is regarded. The Kingdoms are much less organized and have less resources asides of their military, so will have a harder time to conquer the Hinterlands.

The part of the Hinterlands your heroes are assigned to is closest to the borders with Nyh. You have a hunch of course that you will not be the only ones going out there, despite being told so.

You will of course have the opportunity to hire NPCs as you need them (in most cases), so no need to worry about not having resources.

Your local contact is a half-hobgoblin (goblinoids and Kobolds TRY to be civilized in these lands, with varying success) ranger named Eloise who is to meet you close to the border. She knows the Hinterlands a little and has some ties to the local council governing the border area.

The Hinterlands and the Empire of Nagh

Got this gem from our warpriest-to-be.

Thundyria

Greater Goddess from the south and west of the hinterlands. She is a wild and passionate goddess seen as the eye of the hurricane. She is the Storm Lady and the Bringer of Rain. She is whorshipped by the mountain people in the deserts for the rain to grow grapes and coffee. Along the city states on the coast and their navies who regularly have to fight crabmen and a salt water version of lizard folk, she is seen as a protector and war goddess.
Domains: Storm, Strength, War, Protection
Alignment: True Neutral
Favored Weapon: Spear
Holy Symbol: Storm clouds spewing rain and lightning on a black disc.
Omens: Cloudless skies (disfavor), Rainbows (kissing time), Rolling Thunder (good luck), Rainbow Trout & Sea Turtles (blessing)
Common Phrases: "May this be of no use." ((In response to a blessing) "I drink and then I know things." (Before drinking wine or coffee) "You're walking on water." (A warning or disfavor)
Noteworthy Holidays:
-Monsoon Season: 10 days - 2 weeks of heavy rain that marks the end of summer. --Flash Flooding: When the rain comes down out of the mountains in waterfalls and floods the creek beds. Its time to party in the water. Current surfing on large sea turtle shells to see how far down stream one can make it before falling off is a thing.
-Crab Day: A specially marked day of the year when crabs flood the beaches during their mating season. They are picked up by the bucket load for eating.
-Navy Day: 3rd day of the 4rth week in the 10th month where locals pay respects to fallen sailors and sunken ships, but also specifically the death date of Captain Horace "Hook" Booker, who went down with his ship, Blue Bonnet, as a Martyr and Hero.
Traditions:
-First born son joins the Navy.
-Look up into the rain.
-Point at (or salute with a weapon) lightning striking out of the sky and curse an enemy's name.
-Wash your hands with holy (blessed) rain water before touching any religious texts.
-Wash your hands and snap your fingers on each hand 3 times while submerged before eating seafood.
-For some strange reason crab meat that is not served with wine to drink always tastes like poo to the faithful.
-For some strange reason, not performing the ritual before eating seafood causes the follower to smell like a rotting fish that was sprayed with a skunk. This lasts for 1d4+6 days, and will continue to linger until the person bathes naked in the rain.
