Note that the gala tomorrow is not the conference. After the gala the real conference begins. The gala is simply the meet and greet, think White House dinner for dignitaries from foreign nations. However a lot of business is conducted at these affairs.

What time is the gala tomorrow vs. what time is it now? Just trying to get a sense of how much time there is available.

Current game time is early on a Wednesday, probably around 10:00am, on a day in early April.
Gala kicks off at 7pm on Thursday evening.

The hotel does have small conference rooms available, though today would be the last time they could be used. Tomorrow they will be prepared as part of the rooms that are being made available to the gala.

Basically on the ground floor of the hotel the is an adjacent conference center hosting 3 large conference rooms and 4 smaller rooms. All those rooms will be used to host the conference tomorrow.

There are also bars and restaurants on the roof and the ground floor, as well as a rooftop swim and sauna establishment.

All are potential places to meet, though your rooms might work as well. Especially as in discussion you discover that you are co-located so you can meet in a middle room without having neighbors in the adjacent rooms.

Will probably be able to get a post in before the weekend.

Ah, Glitch, I was going to suggest we meet somewhere the Johnson doesn't control, away from things the Johnson has supplied...

If everyone else is fine meeting in the middle room though, I'm flexible.

Well if we can't defend ourselves against the Johnson I don't know how we're going to fare against the people who are actively opposing us.

For Glam, it has nothing to do with "defend against the Johnson" so much as "doesn't trust the Johnson enough to talk freely anywhere the Johnson had access to before we did".  Mild paranoia, it's not likely to be actually important, just mild IC paranoia.

I know how trivial is to bug a place and a white noise generator does nothing against a visual recording which is later run through a lip-reading subroutine...  mild paranoia... mild... and a white noise generator only makes it harder for the Smart Room to listen in to everything and record it anyway... mild paranoia, deep breath, mild paranoia...

Glamnarok doesn't know if "we" are drekky runners ('we' doesn't include the Glamself*) or topshelf runners (*), so IC'ly, you can see where some mild paranoia might come from.  Even OOC'ly I have no idea of anyone's capacities outside of my sheet...  (but we'll all find out soon)


* Glam is rather suspicious of this whole affair and suspects our Johnson may be a few fries short of a Happy Meal.  I mean, who would hire a reporter to cover a gala event and expect they wouldn't report about it?  Or maybe our shortstack boss expects that and thus Glam has the perfect cover?  Is Johnson already six moves ahead of us on this Xanatos Gambit?!?!?!

Dammit. Knew I'd leave something important out of the conversation. Johnson would have expressed firmly that no weapons would be tolerated at the gala, and he expects you to abide by that. By at the gala he means on the floor, there is no doubt that everybody will likely have armed backup available somewhere in the hotel but in the conference center hosting the gala there is a strict no weapons policy.

It's fair. Honestly, I would have been shocked if there had been weapons allowed.

Xáays has a few contacts from Salish Shidhe so he'll be reaching out to them for information, especially about John Abernathy.

@Glamnarok During chargen, you started off as an ex-cop. Did Glamnarok migrate into a reporter?

I started out as an adept and ended up full of cyber so I know things can drift during chargen.

Thanks, made me laugh to.  Glamnarok is about discovering themself since they stopped being a cop a decade ago and well... there are a few secrets that have been hinted at and I suspect will come home to roost by the 3rd or 4th day of the actual run (I suspect it'll be sometime after we move out to the safehouse in Puyallup).

Yeah... Glam's smallest weapon is a a Light Pistol they refer to as a "holdout pistol" (Ruger Redhawk), but honestly Glam only carries that if Glam wants to hurt people less than if they punched them...  :|

Not really.  Unless you think a reporter would have skills a Face wouldn't have, in which Glam is living a lie as a reporter.  No, this is more, Glam is an ex-cop* who is under an assumed identity and that identity has been a fashion reporter for a newsrag in San Fran the last six plus years (while also moonlighting on runs).


* But what makes a runner an ex-cop instead of an ex-merc, but a few Knowledge choices?  And what makes a fashion reporter but a few Skills and Knowledges?  And a Press Badge!  Do not forget the all mighty laminated cardboard badge of the Fourth Estate!

I made a brawling troll too in another game and was bummed when the change log showed that base unarmed damage for trolls got reduced to base 2P unless you grappled. Gave him titanium bone lacing and some martial arts techniques to bump it up to 6P base then 8P if he did a flying kick.

I had a long (internal) debate during chargen about whether to go ork (and focus on grappling) or elf (and focus on striking). I went with the latter not so much due to combat effectiveness but because I played a lot of orks in 5E but never any elves. My last elf was back in 4E so I decided to dust off the metatype to explore it again.

Mechanically it came down to whether I wanted high Strength or high Charisma. High Strength is fun, but high Charisma has way more skills tied to it and thus many more opportunities to be helpful outside of combat. So I went that direction.
