Crew assignments
That’s if they had quarters and didn’t sleep on the torpedoes themselves…
Visited one of the UK subs when I joined the Navy, and the captain had as much room as a walk-in closet and a wash basin sink, he had to use the common crapper and showers, which were 30 seconds of cold water, I believe. So 10 seconds wet, stop the water, lather up, 10 seconds rinse, stop and 10 seconds shampoo, and 10 seconds rinse and done.
They also explained how they escaped the sub underwater… pretty fucking awesome — as you were propelled like a cork from the sub going 5 meters per second (I’d have to confirm the exact speed) until you broke the surface. No worries about the bends since the sub is already at teh same pressure as the surface air. Just take a breath, hold until the airlock is full of water, and inflate your floatation device and breath out as you shoot up through the water…
What a rush.
