Re: Off Topic

It's mid morning, it's getting dark because of cloud cover. Sorry, I did think that might have been confusing and should have clarified.

One sun, right where it should be. Rises where it should, sets where it should. I will give better nighttime descriptions for you :)

And for everyone : life takes precedence, I can finagle you back in to the storyline if you need a break and disappear. Especially if you've given lots of character info.

Sorry folks, I just came off 4x back-to-back 12hr night shifts,  and hours into my first chance for a good sleep, my mum has been rushed into hospital in an ambulance.
I will make a post very soon.

Holy, that's a rough series of events. I hope your mum is okay, or she can get treatment for whatever ails her!

Like Sabriel said, I wouldn't worry too much about making yourself post if you don't have the time or headspace for it. But, if it helps you de-stress, then more power to ya!

Good to know. You see, I recently blew the whistle on some pretty horrible ethical practices being performed by [company name redacted] so I expect to get disappeared in a couple of days.

Edit: I just heard a knock at my door, they showed up quicker than I was expecting.

Re: Off Topic

To answer a question without bogging up the IC thread:

When it comes to combat, Oracle will inform us when to make rolls for perception checks, initiative, and dictate the order of events.

Since we are coming up on the village, hearing normal village noises, and not been directed to make initiative rolls the general assumption should be that we are not going to immediately be in combat. How you behave once we get there could change that, but you play you. ;)

Re: Off Topic

Got it, good to know! Thank you!

I'm desperately waiting at my keyboard for someone to clear up this whole misunderstanding, but I'm also loving the possibility that Sabriel simply lets Milo keep thinking as he does and just loving the chaos.

Frankly, I'm not even 100% sure what is going on with Sabriel. Something is definitely off about her, at least how I'm interpreting it. I don't know if it was intentional, but if so, bravo! As a (mediocre, unpublished) writer, I know it's incredibly difficult to invoke a sense of unease this way! Again, it could just be me overanalyzing.

Re: Off Topic

Wonderful, wonderful! I must be playing her just right. I fully intend for her to be dreadfully fascinating and utterly complicated.

I am one of the bunch not actually from a strictly fantasy setting, so I have more scope of understanding of the world to use at my discretion. Whether that is to inform or torment? Well, I suppose it depends on Sabriel's mood at the time.

Re: Off Topic

A few things about Arzengrande.

It is an inherently magical world. Not 'magical' like a world with magic, but closer to how some places are magic incarnate. Like the Feywild from DND for example.

One of the consequences of that is that everyone lives longer than usual. Humans on Earth can hope to live anywhere from , say, 50 to 120 Earth years (based on conditions and luck) while on Arzengrande, humans can also live 50 to 120 Arzengrande years. Despite the fact that an arzengrande year is almost 1.4 times longer than an earth year.

So, I specified in my PM (and bio too) that Milo is 27.

12 years of childhood, 6 years of training arc, 3 years of demon warfare, four years of war crimes and then 2 years of living as a fugitive.

He appears to be around that many earth years in age (mid to late twenties), despite being biologically closer to nearing-38.

So on Arzengrande, a normal human can live from 70 to 170 earth years. Wizards live even longer, because they interact more with mana or whatever. A highest-level archmage could extend their lifespan by double. Allowing a normal human to live for 340 years, potentially.

Of course, this is all just for humans. All other races are either far longer lived or biologically (or otherwise) immortal.

Milo, having been a very proficient wizard in the past, probably looks a few years younger than he should.

However, now that he is no longer on his homeworld, his aging will be more like that of a normal person, unless he figures out a way to prevent it.

Since he can still use magic, it's probably possible. Wizards in arzengrande use two things to cast magic, their "Mana Core" which is an aspect of themself, and "Ambient Mana" which is the fuel they use.

Two talents make a great wizard. A powerful inborn core is determined at birth (can be supplemented with some very expensive and rare items as well) and puts a limiter on strength. Meanwhile, the amount of ambient mana one controls relies on their focus in the moment, training with the spell, and overall ability all of which have the opportunity to be improved often.

Also, to split 'wizards' into a few stages, this will give you an idea of where milo was and where he has fallen to.

1. Novice (can use a few basic spells and is still learning the fundamentals)

2. Apprentice (has a small selection of spells for some circumstances, knows the basics)

3. Intermediate (has a fair selection of spells in many circumstances, refines the basics)

4. Licensed (has a large selection of spells for most circumstances and meets the minimum power requirement to be considered lethal)

5. Prestige (has a vast selection of spells for all circumstances, as well as significantly increased power and versatility against other wizards)

6. Master (has the power to defeat multiple other spellcasters of lower tiers, by themself with no preparation time. these people are considered valuable assets to a country)

7. High Master (basically an archmage. can throw meteors around and bring themself back from the dead with clone bodies or whatever. illusions to deceive entire crowds et cetera. basically a WMD)

8. Grandmaster (very few people in history have reached this stage, and none are alive in the current Era. These people are basically 'gandalf' where you have no idea what he is capable of, but it's far more than everyone else in the area combined. capable of hax feats and single handedly deciding regional wars)

In his prime , Milo was a Prestige Mage. Now, he's of course a Novice, knowing only one spell. He still has all the knowledge and talent with spellcrafting as he did in his past life, but much of that may not apply in this world.

Re: Off Topic

I'll post when I can, but my schedule is chaos and I just spent the last several days working 12-15hr days. More like nights. Its a bit of a blur.

I don't plan specifically on breaking off from the group, but we don't seem to have much cohesion. However, I am allowing for alternative options to also accommodate my sporadic schedule.

Re: Off Topic

There is definitely a lack of cohesion at the moment. Normally, I would de-escalate any dissatisfaction between characters to the point of metagaming, because that's what GMs expect

Since Oracle has already given her blessing, I'm running things on my end much more naturally, as GM burden isn't an issue for us to worry about atm.

Also I'm sorry to see you've been wringing yourself dry at work, try to stay sane lol :)

Judging from the cast tab, the GM hasn't logged in for quite some time. They are probably busy with other stuff.

Also, just noticed Sabriel has access to several more groups than the rest of us? I declare favoritism! lol jk :P

Re: Off Topic

Looks like a dead game for sure.

I was definitely looking forward to playing this character, but I'm not too bummed about losing the setting, since we hadn't really been revealed much of it yet.

All-in-all, I don't mind because I can always recycle this concept - or a similar one - when I get the chance.

I'm gonna remove this from my watchlist now. There is no GM around to actually remove my character from the game unfortunately, but there's little difference.

If you have similar feelings about Lyndis, I can only offer my assurances that this site has a whole lot of places for users to run elves in the forgotten realms! Then again, you may already be aware of that since I don't know your history on this site. I've only been here for a few years myself.

It may be worth noting that the GM did state they were a 'full-time mom' or smth like that, so it is plausible that they just ran out of time to run this game, and didn't have the courage to break the news to us. That would be a bit ironic, since most RPOL users prefer to be told when a game is shutting down rather than being left in the dark.

So, I assume their circumstances changed and they either lacked access to the internet or had no headspace to check in with online gaming buddies.

Hopefully, it's nothing serious. It could be something commonplace like 'moving across state lines' or 'promoted at work but mandatory overtime'

Then again, with how the world is at the moment, it is easy to be pessimistic.

Regardless, I enjoyed what little interactions we had, and I wish the best for all of you (including the GM) in your real lives and in your future gaming experiences!

Peace :)

Re: Off Topic

Heh. Yeah, I've been on RPoL for years. I have a couple of other games that I am in.

I was looking forward to playing Lyndis because she's actually the very first tabletop character I ever played back in college. (I got the red box when I was a kid, but I didn't  have anyone to play with, since I lived out in the boonies. It wasn't until college and 2nd ed that I actually got to play.) So, she was a trip down memory lane, for me. All those party members that she mentioned? Those were characters played by my friends, back in the day.

And, I completely understand if she wasn't in the right headspace. Been there, done that. I ended up ending a game I was GMing because I was overwhelmed by RL issues plus the pressure of running a game.

Hope ya'll find something else to play and maybe our paths will cross again! :)
