Alicia turned around to look at the person.

"Excuse me?"

There was a tall, very muscular young man standing behind her, gazing at her.

"I know it's been too long," he said.  "It must have been terrible in this life, without your husband to guide you and protect you.  But don't worry.  That's all over now.  I promised to love you forever, and this is our next life together, but don't worry.  I'll keep my promise and be the husband you need to look after you."

Rosa was already giving him a very, very dirty look, and her hand was over the sword-tattoo on her arm.  Luisa mostly looked baffled.

Alicia looked around.

"Um, I think you might be mistaken..."

"...ah, you've forgotten?  I'm sorry," he said.  "You don't remember who you were, before?  We all were like unto gods, once, in the lost age.  I was blessed with the memories of those days, and I remember many things.  Including you, my beloved wife."

"Um, really, I don't know what you're talking about," Alicia said. "And you're making me uncomfortable..."

"...you don't?" he said, confused.  "Alas, for the tragedy of the lost past of our love!  I'm sure it will return to you in time, though.  For now, I will accede to your wishes and leave you in peace, but soon, you'll come to understand, and the true happiness of the completed will be yours."

He left.

"...So, I already hate that guy a lot," said Rosa.  "Anyone else feel that way?"

"I don't know what's going on," Alicia said.

"I'm just confused, too," said Luisa, but Rosa frowned.

"I don't get it, but I really do not like that dude at all," she said.  "He just rubs me absolutely the wrong way."

"He certainly was...forceful," Alicia said.

"And a jerk who just assumed he'd be running your life for you," said Rosa.  "You need to stay away from people like that."

"...I wonder if he's right about the reborn thing, though?" Luisa pondered.  "With the weapons and things, it really feels like I'm remembering how they work, not learning."

"I've had some memories, but nothing like what he was talking about," Alicia said.

"...I had dreams," said Rosa.  "Or memories.  Or something.  And some of it was fighting... things.  With my sword.  Alongside other people.  I think they're real memories.  And I think it might happen again."

She looked at the floor.  "...some of it was other stuff, too."

Insight

Something that Rosa was talking about was clearly deeply personal, and embarrassing.  And might relate to the people around her, who she was refusing to look at.

"That's fair, most of mine are being in libraries and exploring some kind of ancient tomb," Alicia said. "And there's a bunch of rumours about monsters..."

"I'm very sure they're real," said Rosa.  "And we have to be ready for them."

"I haven't been in a fight before...with this life? I'm not sure how to talk about this...," Alicia said.

"Me either," said Luisa.

"I haven't, but I did do fencing, at least," said Rosa.  "We seriously should all train.  I think the monsters are real, and we need to face them."

"I'm sure that's why we're here," Alicia said. "And I'm nervous."

"Yeah, me, too," said Luisa.

"I get that, but we can't let them catch us off-guard," said Luisa.  "We have to start training."

"I suppose you're right," Alicia said.

"Um, but we should also see where we live, right?" said Luisa.  "And get moved in."

"Good point," Alicia said. "We should do that."

This turned out to involve waiting in a long line, and then being given a key, and directions to a room...
