The cafeteria was full and loud, and students crowded everywhere getting institutional food.

Alicia made sure to tip the old lady again. This time ten bucks. That had to be right. Then she went to sit with her friends.

"So I wonder what classes will be like here?" Luisa asked.  "I hope they aren't too rough."

"I'm not even sure what they're going to teach," Alicia said.

"Well, some of it's surely going to be the regular stuff," said Rosa.  "Math and Science and Literature or whatever."

"Yeah, but the other ones are what I'm most curious about," Alicia said. "Who can they get to teach us?"

"That's a very good question," said Rosa.  "...I wonder if there are people who actually know about this stuff?"

"I don't know? Are there any adults that awakened?" Alicia asked.

"I haven't heard of any," said Luisa.  "But there could be, I guess."

"I hope we find out soon," Alicia said.

"I guess we'll see what classes are like..." said Rosa.

"I'm looking forward to sparring. That'll be pretty crazy," Alicia said.

"It will be, yeah," said Rosa.  "And that's a good reason to train on your own.  You don't want those mean girls to show you up, right?"

"Yeah, but beating them would also be great," Alicia said.

"So what I'm hearing is, we start training after classes today," said Rosa.  "Got it."

"Sounds good," Alicia said.

The morning classes were fairly ordinary, if intense.  So far, nothing really stood out.  But then afternoon classes came...

The cafeteria was crowded with students... relatively speaking.  Most were blearily grabbing breakfast.

"What's good here, I wonder," Alicia said as she looked at the menu.

There was, shockingly, not even a menu!  Just steam trays full of various things-- eggs, bacon, sausages, tables of breads and fruit, a few soups, and the like.

Alicia took some eggs, bacon and toast, before going to find a table with the others.

"Okay," said Rosa.  "We got kind of a late start today, but we need to find more time to train.  There's weird things going on here, and we have to be ready."

"I agree," Alicia said, sitting down and digging in.

"Sure, but how can we train more without getting attacked by monsters?" Luisa asked.

"That is training too, right?" Alicia asked.

"Well, it's higher-stakes than usual," said Rosa.  "But it certainly makes us stronger... if we survive."

"We did survive last time," Alicia said.

"Yes, but I'd like to be able to train knowing for sure that I will," said Luisa.  "No offense."

"No, that's fair," Alicia said. "More than fair."

"We could try some sparring, or maybe target practice," Rosa suggested.

"Sure, that sounds good," Alicia said.

"Okay, let's try that after class," said Rosa.

Alicia nodded.

"I Guess the food here isn't too bad."

Rosa shrugged.

"It's okay," she said.  "But it's still institutional food, so it's never going to be exciting."

"I do like the grill better," Alicia said.

"Yeah, but we can get more veggies here," said Luisa.  "That's better for us."

"I suppose...," Alicia said.

"It's true, though," said Rosa.  "Vitamins and fiber.  Very important."

"Yeah. you're right." Alicia said.

"Okay, after class, then," said Luisa.  She grinned and teased, "...unless you two need more, you know.  Private time."

Alicia blushed.

"Hey!"

Rosa blushed as well.

"...That's not something we're going to talk about in public," she said.  "Certain people might be listening."

"Yes, that would be for the best," Alicia said.

"Okay, so sparring and target practice?" said Luisa.  "We can do that."

"That should be easy enough," Alice said.

And soon the day passed...

There were students scattered here and there in the cafeteria.

Alicia approached one of the groups.

"Hi, sorry to interrupt."

A shockingly beautiful girl looked up at her skeptically.

"What's this about?" she asked.

"Sorry to bother you, but we're just letting people know about a possible monster attack," Abigail said, as she told them about it, even handing over her phone to show the info they had.

She frowned.

"If this is really happening, why isn't the administration telling us?" she asked.

"I just noticed it today and let them know about it not too long ago, I just think everyone else deserves to know," Alicia said.

She looked Alicia over carefully.

"...And what do you think we should do about it?" she asked, pointedly.  "You have more going on than just telling us."

"Well, I do want everyone to try and be ready in case something does go down. We've got some after school practice planned," Alicia said.

"All right," she said.  "I might have to check that out, then."

"Cool. See you there then," Alicia said, looking to repeat the process with other groups.
