Now we have a cast getting established I thought I would start things off with a Hello!

Yulin is a bard who will, hopefully, be keeping everyone's spirits high and rolls even higher with her inspiration and heroic tales and tunes.

Do you all feel the excitement of starting a new game and char? I know I do! I am interested in RP char development and this Amalia has lots of potential. l hope we can make this game work for a long time and have lots of fun doing it!

Amalia will certainly strive to keep everyone alive, keep close and the temp hps will come flowing... once she levels up! Lol

Hello there,  everyone!  Yana here.   I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in the game.

Allura, play as you see fit to have fun, that's the goal of this game. Allura might be hard to approach to start the game, but who knows, maybe she will warm up to the group.... or maybe not, it's your char, and you play her. I've learned my lesson long ago about letting other players play their char as they wish ;)

Well that is basic RP isn't it.  DM controls the world, player controls their player.

On that note I'll try to keep you all outside the blast radius of any 'mishaps'!

As much as I love playing a disagreeable character I love even more playing alongside disagreeable characters. As a Bard I think it's going to be a lot of fun!

While Yulin's not going out of her way to hurt anyone and is actually quite sympathetic, a snarky Yuan-ti supremacist may not be the easiest person to get along with initially.

We'll all have some learning and growing to do!

Updated Amalia's description, I had the wrong holy symbol and want to show her cleric of twilight dark vision  ability. We often read that drows eyes glow red in the dark, so does Amalia's eyes but its blue.

Who is the new crew member?

No, she's variant human, but for flavor purposes, I want to represent her level 1 cleric ability Eyes of night as that soft glow in the dark.

Awesome hair color (heh) I was thinking she was an exotic race too.

You were going to be a yuan-ti with this picture? What a coincidence, here I thought I was selecting one of the more obscure playable races.

The picture is amazing though. It actually inspired a class change for me, I was always going to be yuan-ti but had a different picture and class in my original application. Went from a cloaked and covered yuan-ti in hiding to an out and proud bard.

Although everyone has great pictures, even out newest arrival!

I actually play a twilight cleric in another game on RPoL with the exact same spell selection as Amalia. The character's only first level but it is a very fun subclass.

I guess we have the same tastes then lol. I'm looking forward to develop Amalia, I just have to be careful not to type cast her as the typical cleric... she'll be her own girl, and since you saw I have a familiar, she'll be double fun to play! I do love those utility cantrips :D

I saw Yulin had possibly a familiar, I didn't see Amalia had one.

Though my cleric isn't one I do like V Human for the feat and I do like Magic Initiate. Though I'm always torn between a few spells; Ritual Caster, Find Familiar and Shield. For flavor I do like Find Familiar.

Yulin made sure to learn Prestidigitation herself as well. How else is a girl supposed to remain clean?!

Snake is not a familiar (as far as I or Yulin knows) so it's probably going to suck when we hit the first area spell. :(

I was a big fan of Magic Initiate for a long time. I've recently changed my feat of preference over to Fey Touched for similar reason, though I do still prefer MI on non-casters.

Nope, my variant human feat is magic initiate wizard, my level 1 spell is find familiar... I just didn't talk about it in my description to keep the surprise, guess I missed that lol

Ok I kept reading and rereading and looking at the picture and was wondering how am I missing the familiar ?

It's funny to see I'm the most armored of the group, guess I know who will benefit most often from my shield of faith lol.

High armor barbarian is not easy to pull off without rolling for stats. Clerics are OP though. :P

I will eventually have metal armor too, just don't start with it.
I do possess a shield though. Even though I am not truly what one could consider a meat shield. The Hit Die is not in the stars. I will probably be one of the more armored members in the group over time. As well as probably having the full, bow, arrows, shield, armor, and martial weapons.

as long as I don't have to do a Dex saving throw, then I'm dead meat :p

I might end up with some armor, we'll see what's in the cards. I can wear it, I just can't afford it.

I really like the hexblade warlock, I did consider playing one before Ao told me there was one already.

Very busy work schedule here, as we prepare for product launch, but otherwise good.

I am assuming Allura did not know illusions were cast she was just happily eating when she noticed that. Her anger is not directed at Yulin. Not directed at Yana truly either.

It has VSM components, so unless you were distracted, you probably noticed a spell being cast.

It is a role play choice admittedly.

Entirely, role play is up to you.

And I won't comment on Solgran realising immediately what happened for the same reason.

When there is a large group of role players,  it can be difficult to keep things smooth, especially if a few are more energetic than others.

In the menu that opens on the right hand side click MANAGE EXPERIENCE.
Make sure it is set to add XP, if not click ADD XP.
Enter the amount of experience you want to add where it says TYPE XP VALUE.
Click APPLY CHANGES.

How it will work is immediate access to all skills as per new level. You will not gain new spells BUT can access the new spell slot for existing spells.

Hit points you can either roll (Reroll natural 1) or take average hp for your class +1 (a d8 would get 5 hp) plus con bonus

A short rest is literally resting, just taking it easy. You can still do light activities and things, so rules-wise there's nothing stopping you from listening in. Up to you RP-wise.

Trying to work out timing is annoying.

I wouldn't have thought you've been interrogating them very long.  Maybe a minute or two based on dialogue.

I've assumed by the time Snoric had been 'de-shafted', healed and then collected the goblin booty the interrogation would be done and he'd have missed it all.

Is it really going to take an hour to interrogate the prisoners and clear the battlefield?  Figured it was 10-15 mins work tops.

I assumed the same, it was a short conversation while everyone had been doing their own thing. Solgran, Amalia and Yulin being involved directly.

Yana would have stayed by the wagon regardless,  wary of letting the cargo go unguarded.    In her overthinking paranoia,  she can't dismiss the possibility that other goblins might use this battle as a distraction.

Indeed.  I don't think (could be wrong) we have enough stealthy types to warrant a scout group.  We might need a more brute force approach.

The only people we don't have in noisy armor are Yana, Yulin, and Osric. Rogues and Bards can scout well enough, but you couldn't bribe my wizards to be a physical scout.

Yulin *could* scout and now with Jack of All Trades and a first level spell slot I'm much more confident she might even be successful.

I agree with the marching order.

Yana considers herself more of a locksmith than a scout,  but she would sneak around if it was necessary

Solgran's just getting into position near the entrance, btw. He's not moving in until we're ready for that.

Solgran's battle tactics will be fairly simple for quite some time. Find an enemy and hit it until it's dead, move on to another target, always stand next to someone he can protect when possible.

Sigh.  Challenges of a new group.  Two crowd control spells cast on the same combatants.  Still hopefully between both spells the archers will be contained.

Sis remember you also get a move action so after you disengage you can also move.

Rogues are extra mobile starting at 2nd level.

So this is the end of t6e cave complex, I will need a plan of action of what you want to do and what you want to take discussed, we there here or in discord. Once I know that I can post and move us on to the town and chapter two of this fine adventure

1. Free the wolves
2. Load the goods into the wagon (and the weapons/armor from the goblins to be sold)
3. Deliver said goods (and Sildar) to Phandalin
4. Ask around town for any information related to Cragmaw Castle, Krol, or the Spider
5. ???
6. Profit (divide the loot)

I'd swap option 2 and 1 a little.

Send someone/s to retrieve the wagon
Load wagon with goods
Release wolves (leave goodies for them)
Get outta Dodge while they're eating
Deliver goods. . .

The wagon won’t pass the terrain here. You have to take the goods to the wagon

All the more reason to load the wagon before we release the wolves

I'll agree with releasing the wolves last, just in case they , umm....want to literally bite the hand that feeds them.  ;)

Remember the walk from the wagon to the cave was about 30 minutes

Let me review that

YOu are correct Amalia that it took us 4 hours going up.  I'm assuming it's faster now since the first time we were moving stealthily, looking for traps and avoiding detection.

Because it isn't stealthy and less round about, you can get there within a little under 2 hours.

Well here's hoping there aren't too many loads to transport then!

So two ritual casting of tenser's disk, ok

With the floating disk and strength, you can do it in one trip of under 2 hours

Leaving the wolves for later means having them struggle against their chains the whole time we're loading, while the party is either split and/or encumbered in the event that they break free. We just killed 2 wolves and a small army of goblinoids at the same time, three wolves that we can free individually should not pose a threat we're afraid of at this point. I mean, they're not evil monsters out to kill us, they're starving animals chained up in a room.

We can feed them some goblins first, then free them once they've got their bellies full, that should further reduce the chance of being attacked. If we leave them the whole time though, we're giving them a reason to try to break free every time we walk passed them. If they have a clear escape when we set them free, they're probably going to take it. If they break free while we're taking stuff, and the exit isn't clear, or they break out in between two of us taking loads, then someone's probably getting attacked because there is no easy exit for them and they're feeling trapped.

Spoken like a true ranger, I 100% agree with Solgran. We can have the owls as lookout while we empty the cave, to make sure they don't come back as we work.

Before you go in to free them, I'll give you guidance to help with the animal handling roll

Allura's idea of befriending the Red Cloaks, in order to learn theor plans and possibly betray them later,  has some merit, I'll admit.

ok guys....time to light a fire under everyone. it has been too long since we've moved - i have given clues on where people may know where the red cloaks are as well as threads of other missions.

...all is too quiet.

So i want a post from everyone privatly telling me they are still here with me within the next 48 hours. Even if its a brief 'i am hgere but i'm busy for a few days, will update soon' post.

And then i want a post IC on where we are going from here.

to move things along i will say that Carp's mother followed and the two have now left leaving you with the cave entrance. You need to decide if you go in as a group or send a scout

Hey everyone. I think I might be ready to jump back into the game. I've caught up on all the posts I've missed, just not sure how to jump back in since I don't have the info as a player that my character got while NPC'd. Sorry about my absence, but I think my mental health is getting back to its normal state. I feel less like a ball of stress and more like a person again. Also, a little tidbit of what I've been doing with my time while on my break from rpol...I've started learning Korean.

Yana and Malice are leading the way since the rest of us are noisy.

And Yana just called us noisy folk forward.  I thought it was to tell/show us something but now not sure if we're waiting on that or our mighty DM!

Ironically, now that Malice is back, I have to let everyone know, I'm heading out of town to visit relatives in a couple of days, and returning in about 3 weeks, so I might have limited posting time.
On the other hand, I'll be spending three weeks with relatives, so.... I might have LOTS of free time to post.
I'll try my best to keep up in any event.

I was waiting on a decision on what yana or malice was going g to tell the party, but if no one posts within a few hours, I will post

Well given Yana's player is going on holiday and Malice's player has been out of action for a while, I think our DM may need to take this one!

But I have to subract 5 from my roll (which is normally +5) for sharpshooter, so I think that part's right.
I thought having Advantage meant that I rolled twice, and took the best result.  Am I doing that wrong?

I had assumed you were using sharpshooter, but future posts let me know if you are.

I think you do investigation when your searching for traps
then what disable device ?  a Thieves Tool type thing

I tried to Google it, and i found "Perception for Finding traps and Dexterity for removing traps".
Where were Find Traps and Disable Traps?

Finding traps varies.  I usually allow Perception or Investigation for mundane traps with an extra option of Arcana for magical ones.

Opening locks or disarming traps is normally a Dex roll which you can add your proficiency bonus too if you proficiency in thieves tools.

Up to our DM at the end of the day I guess!

When in doubt, I generally just roll it all and let the DM pick what he wants.

I did that,  and my rolls were truly terrible.     Oh well

what i need from you guys is some answers to the following.

- Where are you planning to take the bodies recovered?
- Where to next?
- If resting, for how long and where?
- Who is taking what from the loot (I know Allura has claimed 'Talon')

Snoric's answers:

* Bodies should have been left in the hole for now and those raised need to be hidden lest a patrol sees them.  Chuck the Noric in the hole.  Leave as little evidence of our passing as possible.

* Through the secret door, sneaks leading.  We have a potential advantage, lets keep it.

* No resting for this little gnome.  If we want to rest, we leave.

* Loot identifying/distributing should be left until we're safe.  Chuck it in a bag for now (though happy for Allura to wield the blade if it helps her).

The secret door sounds like a good idea to me.  I'll take any advantage we can get

Malice didn't think the bodies should have been brought out of the hole to begin with, so she is all for throwing them back in. As for resting, she is only down 5 HP, she can use a spell or lay on hands if she really needs to recover it without taking a rest. And she is already following Snoric to the secret passage. As for loot, the only items possibly viable to her are the potions and they will have to be tasted or identified another way before she uses them. She is willing to be the guinea pig in a sense for tasting them to find out what they are.

I only intended to check the bodies to make sure they were all dead, not actually remove them. If we do remove them, then I would want to be respectful of the bodies, but they can stay in the pit for now. Once we've killed all the enemies here, then he'll look at retrieving the bodies and returning them to their families.

I agree with Solgran, I don't remember were that idea of removing the corpses came from but I'll edit my post, I was just following along.

Is the door on the lower level or upper level ? Near Osmon, Allura and Snoric ?

that door leads to the north on the same level as most of you....and is level ground. Osmon is on a platform above you.  The door to the east is higher, leading outside. So the door to the north leads under the platform that osmon is standing on

Snoric would say we definitely stash the coins, ring and potions (doesn't matter with whom).

Does any of the equipment look of good quality (not waiting for detect magic), just looking at their quality.  If nothing special suggest we leave it in a pile and come back for it if we have time inclination.

Snoric will look through the short swords to see if any is better than his current one (which he took from the goblins).  If he sees one of better quality he'd take that, else he'd leave them for now.

Otherwise loot sorting can wait until we get out of here!

The short swords are of better quality than the goblins, but that's just because it was better looked after.

The gear is of good quality (daggers, spears, short swords, crossbows and bolts), but none of the regular redbrand items stand out. The mages ring is unusual, being a spell focus so small is rare.

And the potions and scroll, though your not sure what they are, hold magical qualities.

Yana would load up on crossbow bolts,  and perhaps pick up a short sword or two if she has room

Snoric will replace his short sword with whichever one looks of best quality.  Appreciate they're likely not magical or MW but given he's using one he got from the goblin caves, any would be an improvement.

He'll also grab enough crossbow bolts to refill his quiver.

Snoric - Any short sword is an improvement. That hand axe is an improvement....probably the daggers are am improvement on the short sword.

Yana.  you can carry your weight limit of what you would like in swords and bolts

We can divide them up 50/50

That many? A quiver/bolt case holds 20 bolts - 30 if in tight (And will be an effort to remove)

You want to carry 6-7 crossbow bolt cases with you, as well as swords and any gear you have?

Good point.  Perhaps two quivers is plenty

good idea. Plus, if you clean this place out, who's gonna claim it? no one else knows how to find this place other than the kid and the men your killing.

You could claim it as a base of operation. Store gear here, etc.
