Well, I am pretty much in limbo, absolutely nothing going on here.

Yeah... Farid you around? I'll just have you find a portal and find those two and set up your story tomorrow.

So our pseudo dragon has RL demands preventing enough time to post. This being the case,I'll have everyone arrive in Waterdeep, which is not too bad a solution. So everyone is in group 1 for now. Tam and Mirabelle, do you want to end up in the same inn or do you have other preferences where you start out? I can hook you all up soon enough in any case.

Worth noting that Mirabelle actually doesn't speak Elvish; she speaks Sylvan.  Though Elvish is basically derived from Sylvan and they use the same alphabet, so it might work well enough for our purposes.  Elvish would basically be a dialect to her, I guess?

It is a bit like Dutch and Afrikaans. While you can understand each other as grammar is very similar and 80%of the words are the same,albeit with different inflections. Elvish has developed over time, so some of the words an elf would use might need explanation. I'd think Sylvan would have dialects as well, but more like different dialects of English. I do stipulate that an elf grown up in elvish society will know Sylvan.

I speak Dutch and Flemish is easily intelligible but Afrikaans takes hard work.

Similarly, Old English (Beowulf, not Chaucer) is REALLY hard work and closer to Frisian than it is to Modern English.

Im Cuban so i akin it to me hearing someone speaking Italian - i dont entirely know what is said exactly but by certain words being similar, i get the gist if not the meaning. Only language i get totally lost with that is further away from Spanish is Portuguese.

If German & Spanish had a baby, it would be Portuguese...

And here I thought Spanish and Portuguese were very much alike.

Spanish and Portuguese are very much alike when written but when spoken not so much.  Spoken Portuguese crunches several syllables into one and changes the consonants constantly from z (pronounced th in Castillian) to j (pronounced zh) in Portuguese, from n (at the end of the word) to o in Portuguese and from s in spanish to a sh sound in Potuguese.  Add to that in written Portuguese, many times the l's become r's and the sedilla above the n in 'ny' sounds, becomes an h after the n.

They are very closely related but at the same time very different in practice.  Add to that much of the above doesn't apply in Brazilian.

I was raised bilingually and could blow your minds pulling out the Scots Gaelic. Pronouncing it would be your first task, trying to speak it the second. It's second nature to me since I'm a native speaker but people trying to learn it later in life find it rather difficult.

I learned Irish as an adult and don't speak well but when watching the BBC Northern Ireland soap 'Seacht' or listening to Irish language rap, I get about one word in three.  Watching ANYTHING on BBC Alba though, and I get maybe one word in twenty.  Ah but Julie Foulis is awesome so it doesn't matter much.

My internet is on and off- as soon as you are all ok with it you can move on to the evening when everyone will have returned from some checking of the area or a nap. It is still afternoon now.

So we had to take in a flooded out relative, power is still wonky and I got my second Covid shot a few hours ago. So I am slow. But keep posting, I'll chime in later.
