Arabella Abbott:
Thinking about Bella, I'd say ...

1. Hufflepuff
2. Gryffindor
3. Ravenclaw
4. Slytherin

Where ever she goes.

Well, then, how about you, Miss Aboott, and I join Hufflepuff?

Yep, Hufflepuff for you then. We also have a clear preference for Slytherin and I think due to his background JJ needs to be Gryffindor.

Hagrid's Happy Hour (OOC )

Greetings, Lawful type non-paladin here. I might inadvertently bring up chivalry-related stuff in character. I might obsessively open doors for girls, not want to hit women and pepper in medieval-type speech here and there.

@ Quixote - Might you also tilt at windmills?

@ boss -  you want us to hold off on wands for now? Familiars?

Was there any policy about knowing languages? The system in place in a nice one, but it does sort of nix languages, yeah? Or, is that just a feat thing now?

I was going to ask about wands too, since the house deal was answered.  My internet was down all day until just a bit ago so only now able to try to ask anything.  :/

I thought so too but the DM wasn't clear so I made a bard, I'm more than willing to change though if asked.

Are you using the Wands and Wizards adaptation?  The link is in the game info ... and we're also supposed to all be 11 year old kids going into the first year at Hogwarts.

This adaptation has the base class listed at the beginning of the Harry Potter adaptation book with the variations after that then subclasses after that.

I mentioned it in the creation rules - we'll start in Diagon Alley with picking wands/familiars/other animals. You may chose a wands fitting your style or if you like the surprise you can also use the wands table and dice for it.

Languages - anything that seems reasonable is fine. It would not be unreasonable for example to know French, English and German if you have traveled a lot or have relatives or other good reasons,or know Latin, Greek and at least basic Arabic if you were a scholar from young age - those are main languages of magic.,

You can of course have some money from your parents/guardians,you can probably guess how much they'd give out.

Hagrid's Happy Hour (OOC )

I expect we're all to start with the standard set of goods all first years are allowed to bring to Hogwart's. If I recall the lore correctly, variations upon the theme are fine but nothing not on the list. For instance, first years aren't allowed brooms.

Well, obviously, we're to pack personal items as well, but unsure what sort of limits existed on those. Muggles bringing muggle items is a question. Dad's watch, mum's hairdryer, a cellphone...

Would you prefer one continuing thread for the game,or have several depending on location?

Might be easier with multiple threads so some things don't get lost.  I fully admit I can be a total ditz at times and forget something.  :/

Hagrid's Happy Hour (OOC )

It depends on how you want to build your narrative. For open style games, location based threads can be nice. I have found in longer games these threads get really cluttered though. People don't do great at keeping Time stamps in them to separate scenes.

IN a game with a more narratively strong line, I recommend threads by scene. When the scene changes, new thread. Scene changes don't have to mean new locations as much as a new story element.

Thread by scene is easier to follow but not easy for open world games where the players can go anywhere.

Of course, I have  seen GMs try a combination of the two. Numbered plot threads for storylines and open location threads for between plot elements.

Hagrid's Happy Hour (OOC )

I find that both of these things have their value, and if the complexity doesn't become problematic you actually want to do both.

Have a main plot thread, this has a time component to it, is where the significant majority of NPCs show up, and most of the decisions matter for everyone.

Then have side rooms, these exist in a semi out of time or montage type place in the story.  House specific rooms, classes, the forest.  These are places that the location is more important than when it happens or even who is there or in what order.
