I looked it up--

--I see no sign of you naming the lizards

--Note: you don't have them with you right now, either.

quote:
The nomads want you to leave the lizards with them, at the gates. "We can watch your whelk and your toad, too," they offer. "Or you can take them in, if you want. But the lizards belong to the tribe."

"I think we might as well leave all the steeds here," says Harran. "They won't actually fight for us, after all. But I'm open to other opinions..."

And as for your other question: yeah, so the next step is y'all each putting your new FLAME-Rules info in your character sheets for me--

Yes.

Okay, I think we're ready!

Just tell me when you're ready to move on-- don't roll for it-- I'll just tell you what happens--

Myra:

Okay, we're about to move on... BUT FIRST let's go over the rules for combat, because we're changing/refining them in the other game.

--WHEN COMBAT STARTS, the GM will tell you what order people will act in. EXAMPLE: "You attack! You two post, then the enemies will get to counter-attack."

--Harran's not much of a fighter, but remember you can name Utuzi the scorpion-man or each other for the Fellowship part of your attack rolls-- you just have to describe how you get their help. (Utuzi is a spear-specialist, and carries a spear. He also has a big scorpion-tail he could sting people with.)

--WHEN YOU ROLL:

--IF THE HIGHEST YOU GET IS A 5 or 6: you succeed.

--IF YOU GET MORE THAN ONE 5 OR 6 IN A ROLL: you can hit multiple times/targets.

--IF THE HIGHEST YOU GET IS A 3 or 4: it's a near-miss. You don't get a hit, but you don't take a hit. IF YOU CHOOSE, you may stress one of the assets you just rolled to get a hit. If you do, you will pick the asset that you stress.

--IF THE HIGHEST YOU GET IS A 1 OR 2: it's a fail-- one of your assets you just rolled with will get stressed (GM will pick, OR he might tell you to pick).

You may also-- IF YOU CHOOSE-- stress one or more extra assets, even on a success that has one or more near-miss, to get extra/multiple hits.

(Example ONE: Roderick the fighter rolls 5 dice and gets 1, 3, 4, 5, 6. He gets 2 hits... but he's really trying to knock out the dragon he's fighting this round, so he stresses two of his own assets (because he rolled a 3 and a 4) and gets a total of 4 hits.

Example TWO: Lulubelle the Cleric rolls 4 dice and gets 1, 2, 3, 4. She is really trying to help her team put down the giant, so she stresses both her Near Misses, getting 2 hits.)

(The near-miss stuff is somewhat changed from how we used to do it in the other game, to balance out that the bad guys get their own attack phase now.)

So... izzat all clear?

I actually like the rules change; it'll help offset some of the issues with the enemy attacks, I think.

One last extra rule:

--When you have to choose an asset to stress, you can always choose to stress your armor, even if you didn't roll with it.

Been privately discussing combat rules with Fiereljep's player. He felt that if it doesn't help extra during combat in any way, what good is it-- why have armor at all, why not put other things in those equipment slots? And I agreed. So it's a little extra useful in protecting one.

Re: OOC Thread

Ah, I see. I figure that it was up to the player to use it appropriately as an asset during play. Perhaps any stresses coming from enemy actions count against armor first, unless the player decides otherwise?

Hmmmmmmmm....

Maybe.........

I'm not sure. I don't know that I would want to make that a universal rule, because what about magic and stuff?

No, I think I'll leave it the way it is.

Re: OOC Thread

By the way Myra I've been thinking and I've realized that "Lucky" is WAY too vague. I mean, what can you NOT use it for? It's an automatic I-get-to-roll-with-this every single time.

I feel we need to narrow it down at least a LITTLE. Make 1 slot "Lucky against magic" and the other "Lucky against swordsmen" or maybe "lucky against monsters" or something, at the very least...

Re: OOC Thread

Hmm. Two thoughts:

1. It might be worth thinking through how specific assets needs to be -- like at least two words?

2. Having Magic as one of the Asset categories makes it a bit difficult for non-magic using type characters. For example, Myra is built from the 'clever trickster' archetype; she depends on her wits and knowledge far more than on spells or items. That's actually how I landed on Lucky for her Magic attribute: I couldn't think of what else might fit her. On that front, I'd be open to suggestions.

Maybe not an ability, but just for magic items?

I mean, let's see...

Who's holding the Buckler right now?

Re: OOC Thread

In reply to The GM (msg # 514):

Wouldn't magic items more properly be equipment? Unless they were somehow vital to the character concept? I guess I'd been seeing the Equipment category as being somewhat different than the other assets, as they would be easier to gain/lose (by picking things up, having things break or get lost, etc). Lore is about what the character knows; Attributes and Magic are about the core defining aspects of the character -- the first of which is mundane/natural, the second of which is magical/supernatural. Losing something from these three (Lore, Attributes, Magic) would be a challenge to the character's identity -- like losing access to spellcasting, or suffering from a wasting disease that stole the character's trademark strength. Losing Equipment is more like an inconvenience. Anyway, I'm kind of rambling. I guess I'll change her Magic traits to be:
 -- Lucky Combatant
 -- Preternatural Perception

I'm cool with that.

So...

Normally no, but right now I want Myra to roll with whatever she's got that she thinks would help with perception/caution/awareness of her surroundings...
