Allura nods a tiny bit, "Anyone know of any other demons who have died in such a way ?" She asks Safos.

"Any kind of info would be helpful."

Safos does not. "But it is one of the things we're keeping our eyes and ears open for," he says. "But so far, nothing, not even anyone gone mysteriously missing."

"Yeah, if it is not so dangerous a place as for it to be more common, then it is sounding more sinister by the moment. Thank you."

She will encourage Thelik to go but she does leave some coin as a thanks to Safos for his help.

She is looks to Thelik like she would like to talk in private as they leave.
"Let's be very alert about people suddenly leaving or following us."

She also sees Thelik leave behind a couple of orange crystals...



"You bet," says Thelik. "We going back to my place?"

Nods but definitely keeps alert for the things she mentioned.

Allura and Thelik return to Thelik's shack without incident...

"This is bad, it suggests a skilled sorcerer and not some demon assassin but a house one Thelik." Nibbles her bottom lip.

"Yeah. Sure is in my father's wheelhouse and all..."

"If your dad did this himself,  I can't take action against him. Not just because he is a powerful member of a powerful House, but because he is your dad, and I like you."

She starts to pace.

"Oh, I won't mind if you do. Better you than me. I guess I'm just feeling strange about what a big change it would be if my father was suddenly removed from my life... Like, I mean... from existence. It'd really change everything..."

"No Thelik, don't talk like that, you might have disagreements with him, but he is still your dad.  He probably does care about you even if he doesn't show it."

She continued pacing, "I need to know what your dad was doing that tangled him up with Squig. I know Squig mentioned your dad was trying to poach another houses pathways and something. I never got to find out more though, Squig was killed."

"Mmmm, no, don't think so. I've tried hard enough to make him show something... I mean he cares about me existing in general, just as a bloodline investment, but otherwise not so much, I'm sure..."



"Eh? Poach another House's... pathways? So... you mean like... a land grab of some kind? Er, a Shadow grab, I guess? Stealing territory? House Malebranche? Or someone else? What territory?"

"No, not my House Thelik, my House is relatively small. Another big House, Squig mentioned something. A land grab ? I am not sure I suppose that is possible, I wish I had been able to learn more. I might be able to get some help, heck we both would. Is there any way for you to find out what your father has been up to Thelik ? The past few weeks at least ?"

"Squig what he did was work as a failsafe for spells, he was really good with working with magical energies so the way he died really bothers me."

"What, like, go talk to him? No, that'd never work... In fact, it'd probably make him suspicious. Raiding the accountant's office'll be much better... If that doesn't work out, I'll think of something else..."

"So whoever killed him didn't know that is what he did, or they were so skilled that they didn't care that he had such skill with magic. Yeah, let's just stick with the plan and raid the office and see what we can find. It can drive me crazy if I try to think of all the different things to possibly do or be wary of instead of following something I know we can accomplish."

She is upset that she thinks she wont be able to revenge Squig's death and finally the nervous energy leaves her and she just collapses in a chair.

"...You need a rest while we're waiting? You... look like you could use a rest."

Nods, "Yeah, I mean I had a friend die, and now I feel I can't even do anything about it. So a lot of energy just drained out of me, Thelik.  I am just going to rest, could you wake me when it is time ?"

"You bet... C'mon, there's a bed in the other room... I'll keep watch out here."

The bed is very basic, but the mattress is soft enough...

She dreams about poor Squig she actually does feel bad for him and she pictures herself being killed now too because she is on the same mission. So she has troubled sleep.

It feels like she hasn't been asleep for long when Thelik wakes her. "Hey... it's time..."

She blinks and looks defensive for a moment then relaxes.

"Ok, did you pick up those black out grenade things ? Or do we have to do that still ?"

"Still have to do that first. I didn't wanna leave you here unguarded and asleep while I did it."

"Thank you Thelik, that is sweet of you. Alright let's go get those." She smiled following him.

The two return to Bjarta's place, and pick up three glass globes with a dark gray fluid inside. "Toss it and break it, and darkness happens," Thelik explains. "You want one, or shall I keep hold of all of them...?" he asks Allura.

"I will take at least one, you can have the other two." She smiled taking the one.

"I feel kind of excited and nervous."
