"Hmm," says Safos. "...It's not like the guy's a friend of mine or anything... but I've heard he's been sniffing around about House Caryx... Like he's been told to find something they've hidden off in Shadow somewhere... I'd go with that."

"Thanks, Safos. Come on Thelik we need to be very prepared for a demon of this power." She turns to go knowing this is going to be really tough.

"Yeah, thanks Safos, seriously..." Thelik also appears ready to go.

"...Back to my place to plan...?" he suggests to Allura...

Nods slowly.

"Sounds best."

Soon Allura and Thelik are back at his place. "What I wanna know," Thelik says as soon as they're inside and the door is closed, "is this: do you plan to just kill this guy as fast as possible, or are you gonna need to interrogate him some first? Because the answer is really gonna affect any plan we make."

"Interrogate would be good but if he is this tough, this powerful we might need the most destructive weapons we can get. Thelik I am sorry to get you involved in all this I didn't think we would face a demon so powerful other demons are scared of him."

"Meh. It's way less boring than my life was before you showed up, so hey, whatever. Don't worry about me..." He frowns. "...So you think we need better weapons, eh? ...Any ideas on that, or...?"

"Your friend who made the darkness bombs, does she also make weapons ?"

"Hey Thelik, you have been good to me and helpful. Almost everything I told you was true, save that I am a scion of Caryx. I hope that doesn't shock or upset you, I had to keep my identity secret for my protection you know how it can be at times." She waited for his reaction.

Thelik blinks a few times. "Uhhhhhh... I'm not upset... and I guess I'm not... shocked... But it's a big deal. Sawall and Caryx are not happy pals usually. Ummmmmm... I'm glad you told me... But... uh..... Well. Let's take this one step at a time... Why did you tell me now...?"

"Well because that powerful demon is looking for Caryx things and I should report that. I want my family to know at least. I need to go to the embassy for House Caryx and I let you know because we have been working with each other and doing well. I guess just so you could decide if you want to work with me anymore with knowledge of it, instead of ignorance of it."

"Huh. All right. Let me think for a second." Thelik thinks for many seconds, almost half a minute. "...Nope. I feel I should care, but I don't. I believe you when you say that this is all about Sawall poking into Caryx stuff, and killing a demon who was-- at the very worst-- just doing his job. And they killed him with a magical ambush, which I think is kinda rotten. Whatever the truth is, I believe that you're telling me the truth as you know it. And from what I know about the ways in which the rest of Sawall likes to do things? It's kinda got a ring of truth to it in that way, too. So... Yeah. I'll continue to keep that secret along with your other secrets. If you say you need to report in, I'll let you report in."

Thelik frowns. "...Not much of an embassy here in this Shadow, but I know someone who'd be close enough. And it'd hack my father off if he knew I had anything non-violent to do with 'em, so that's a plus. You want me to take you to who I'm thinking of, or do you have your own contact person in mind?"

"Thank you Thelik, I'm young and doing things that are pretty rough and that demon that was killed he actually was a friend so I do feel angry that he was killed and sad too. He didn't deserve to die they could have just kicked him out and said they knew he was looking into things and laughed at him but they did much much worse. I might die trying to avenge him and I just think my House should know. I don't even know if anyone would avenge me but I at least believe my parents care about me."

"Yeah let's see who you know."

Her shoulders relax all the lying having gotten to her but she still feels such a great weight on her.

"Right, and see, that's kinda the thing. They just straight-up magical-assassinated a demon. If this was about owing people crystals or getting a little too nosy or... or something else I can't think of, they... all right, they still might kill him, but they wouldn't do it like that. All secret-y. If Squig had stolen something, or accidentally insulted a noble (accidentally, since no demon would dare do that on purpose), they'd just kill 'im themselves. Probably with a sword, or sure, maybe with magic. But to hire someone else to kill Squig with a spell that was set to go off after the killer wasn't around? Uh-uh. That says we want you dead and we don't want people to trace it back to us, and that says the, uh, hirers? Are offically Up To Stuff They Shouldn't Be."




"All right, if you're ready, let's go. Uh, your humanform, I think, for now at least."

Thelik leads Allura once more into the streets...

(Pausing in case of any reaction post...)

"Thank you Thelik." takes human form and bundles up.

On high alert she joins Thelik in their trip to the embassy.

Thelik stops at a house (not a mansion, but definitely not a shack. It's a fairly nice house, compared to most of the houses Allura has seen in this Shadow...

"This is where Voussa Caryx lives, with her husband, Hadrox Jesby. They're weird, but they're also connected. Her obsession is plants and funguses. His is something to do with handwriting. They also don't like Sawall, but they don't mind me. One time I did an errand for Voussa. Ready t'meet 'em?"

Allura nods.

(Has she ever met them at family functions ?)

Nope-- as far as Allura recalls, she's never met nor heard of the persons in question...

(Allura gets 1 new xp and something problematic that she doesn't even know about right now is put into play...!)

"All right then... let's go," says Thelik. He goes up to the door and pulls a velvet rope.

Soon a big demon comes to the door. "...Ah," the demon says when it sees Thelik. Then it turns to Allura. "...How shall I announce you?" it asks, which is apparently butler for and who's this, then?
