Re: The First Age: Acts of the Old World
Cungto looked upon the world and saw that he had one Major Accomplishment left in him for this Aeon. He was sure it would ring loud and true, where classes only gave an initial boost. This would provide continual Impetus. Leveling, he had made Experience for this precise reason after all.
He Was Thankful for Perenna, for her creation would greatly aid the creatures, and as the System worked using the best ways to show the most amount of information they could understand, and since all living things had souls, he tweaked it so when they slept leveling would happen.
After Gaining an X, amount of XP, they will gain a level. Following that, they will achieve another level. X would be roughly equivalent to living safely. for about a month. This would mean 1 month, 2 months after that, 3 months after that, 4 months... and so on. Assuming someone lived for 52 years after they gained their ability, they'd be level 35. This could be greatly improved if they lived a dangerous life.
There would be 4 Primary Benefits. Given each level.
First, For every hyper specialist stat that was a part of the class foci, they'd have a 1/2 chance of increasing it by 1/4 what the original level provided, and for all non-class stats, they'd have a 1/221 chance of raising it by about 1/6 what a level 1 class boost would provide.
Secondly, For Skills, They'd be able to choose from a 1d6 amount of skill level increases or playing a tree game with chance, selecting the focus and specific skill, but not the topic. Gaining a guaranteed 6 skill increases for playing the game.
Thirdly, a healed body, and A rush of Euphoria. While this healing couldn't fix missing body parts, it could heal serious blood loss, and broken bones, even poison, and disease.
Finally, The Most Important Facet, Perks. Whereas the Other Aspects could be considered necessary and practical. This was a vital component that would happen at the End of Leveling. Perks are a myriad of things, and Cungto saw the perk-system unraveling. Thus he reinforces it with another act in that single moment. Perks are improvements, changes, or specific abilities, based on their current capabilities, even previous perks. These can be brand new abilities provided there is some basis in their capabilities beforehand, being specialized abilities and not broad transmutation magic level ability. Though randomly given, they may select between one of 6 perks.
Again, Cungto saw that a single instance or trial may be needed, and he noted to create an example to portray leveling correctly.
Cungto looked around for a way to express it more thematically, so he looked down.
In a small forest lay a small family of Corgis, one of the pups, less than a month old, had been grievously injured by what appeared to be a snake bite. This Cungto saw as a great example, for unlike his brother's, it had a small pair of wings and had taken the Transmuter class, a class with its major magic already defined.
So, he looked into this small winged corgi pup's dreams and let out a test run of intent into it, for all creatures would soon experience what this Corgi experienced in the world of dreams, albeit with dreams suited to them.
Ruffles saw themself in a broad field with plenty of bones. It was exciting and felt more powerful and healthy than it was, in strange ways. But it decided to rush to the bones. It felt trepidation, for he saw various bones being handled by new friends. Whose butt should it sniff? They all looked Like Ruffles? Each was doing something else; one was digging holes, another was playing with a ball, Ruffles was envious, but as it looked, he saw two different paths, one with many bridges and the other where he could run directly to them. Thus it ran towards them. As he interacted with the ball player, he felt elated to see one new friend and felt more skilled. Cungto saw the Dog had been unlucky and only gained one skill. Gaining The Chasing a ball skill +1 precisely.
After a While, done with playing his new friend, Ruffles looked around and saw 6 paths. Each one with a different Dog, doing something different. One was a Corgi, like him flying in the sky, he couldn't fly, but he felt that he could fly with that Corgi if he went. Another created walls of bones and then bit them having endless bones to eat. Another also played with a Ball though it seemed to be better at chasing red balls, His Favorite. Then Another led to a place more colorful than his standard, it felt terrifying, but he could see so much more. Yet Another Corgi seemed more robust than he as it fought snakes. Ruffles was afraid of snakes, but they couldn't deal with another corgi being injured, so they ran off to help. Finally, the Unseen path had been one where the Dog was making powerful bites but missed more often than expected.
Cungto saw the truth behind each path. The First was enhancing the Corgi's wings so he could fly with them. Another had him gaining a Transmutation specialization, making bone walls would be easy for the Corgi. There could be much more complicated abilities than that, he knew, just for transmuters being able to recreate a map of the area from what they know of it, for instance. Another would enhance his Red Ball(actually just a kind of fruit, corgis dont eat.) Specialization for Ball Chasing By 1, the weakest perk of the lot he imagined. The Colorful World would increase Corgi's Color Vision stats. The Robust Corgi fighting snakes would be a long-term investment for that Corgi, for it would gain a minor stat focus for snake fighting. The last would give some sort of powerful bite attack with horrible accuracy. Cungto was sure that would have been a mistake.
Thus, when the Corgi continued on the path in this dream, it saw something was missing, for the snakes were all dead, but it felt it was better equipped to fight the snakes.
As it headed to the Corgi of its dream, it woke up more potent than before.
Cungto Creates the Leveling System.
Cungto spends 2 acts creating the Perk System.
Whence it was set, then it began, for at that very moment, hundreds of thousands of creatures began leveling on the darker side of Lerret. Dreams became the User Interface of the Level Chapter, and since most creatures did not level every day or even every week, they still had plenty of regular dreams as well. Cungto added a huge chapter to the System and forced some switching around of the table of contents, but ultimately it enabled every lifeform that Dreamed, of a way to level up. It also performed some short-term mutations, like the Source. These Perks were highly sophisticated in their usage, but it did require discipline and the ability to be a 'good boy', while in this dream state. Not all creatures had the same mental fortitudes, however, and not necessarily by species! Even this failsafe outcome had been anticipated, by this new Advanced System: Second EditionTM sourcebook.
Some of the simple life, the tiniest of creatures would only ever achieve a level 0 before they were eaten or split into two new level 0 prokaryotes, similar things could be said of the common slimes. Others, such as the long-lived Elder Forest Trees and the Great Eels of Lerret 2 could reach the very highest levels potentially, only a few had died so far and none from age. The Unicorns were already level 23 Druids! Everyone's favorite draconians often grew to reach incredible levels too, the oldest currently is level 89(after several nights of leveling), those in the mountains nearby called it Bonespur the Mountain Dragon, for in its age it had become more fearsome looking, it was a level 89 Defender Draconian blessed by the Source, the creature might never die.
One particular style of arthropod, an evolution of the land crab, The MinMax-Spider, had a member that gained close to 30 levels of Trickster, its life's plight extremely dangerous for it, subjectively and therefore it had become a rare monster after surviving so many harrowing near-misses, it had beaten fire, birds, other spiders, all of the LiInstects, even Storm Wind and Flooding Waters...So changed by its myriad options for leveling that it had become a dangerous predator to any creature many more times larger than itself. It never lay still, for it was driven by instinct now, genetically, to level in order to cast its offspring far and wide.
Among the humans of the Jungle Tribe and Pa-Ta Tribe on the Southern Continent, leveling became a day of celebration for many. Some humans gained heads of hair, varying in color, this was amongst the most common perks, enforced by a new thing. Vanity, for sentient beings often loved to preen and admire themselves. Another was fat stomaches to carry around lots of food. Other smarter humans chose brawn and strength-based classes, or the active agility classes such as Tricksters, Priests, Gamblers, and Ayrsmiths. The elders turned sometimes to the Scholarly classes, or Champions, Lords, Transmuters, and Wizards. Those who could not or would not do these often chose from the remaining classes, like the Defenders, the Farmers, the Lawbringers, Shifters, and Druids. Although these last few were uncommon choices, they formed the last bit of strands between the other classes, these other classes could not live without these types of people in a cohesive society, with great plenty instead of scratching cave walls for food and cowering in fear (and no one needed reminding how well a person could do alone in the world). These five classes became more prominent then, being called the Pillars. Each being held to a higher standard, yet enjoying greater power and influence. It was the Lawbringer who offered up the Oath, that would allow their communities to exist in a kind of harmony, that they could design. The Oath of the Five Pillars made the First kingdom that day, as the Five Monarchs convened their first court of stone, natural green saplings, vines, trees bearing fruits, and leaves with plenty of light and shade. Each monarch is called the Pillar of their class community. Thus it was that the Pillar of Druids as guardians holding back nature for the tribes, the Pillar of Farmers as the feeders of the tribes, the Pillar of Lawbringers gave the tribes order, the Pillar of Defenders gave the tribe homes and defenses, and the Pillar of Shifters gave humanity a look into the wider world as the scouts; they ruled all of early humankind together.
This new tribal dynamic would solidify its Oath ever more so, as their experiment began to bear fruits. The Pillar Tribe prospered then in those early days, achieving a primitive society where each had a place, ruled by a council.
