Introduction and Rules

Introduction

Path of Immortal Ascension (Deng Xian Zhi Dao) is an newly made original system I created to run RPG games in the Xianxia setting. Here you can expect to play as a mortal attempting to ascend to an immortal much like those in many Chinese Xianxia webnovels, where the characters attempt to outdo one another in trying to break through the next stage of cultivation.

I just made this system over the course of a few weeks and made it into a somewhat playable state since yesterday, so I need people to test if they are willing. Feedback, insults and demeaning comments are all welcome, I will put your names in special thanks if I ever release it as a product.

Read the brief introduction and character creation steps here, and send the character sheet to the Request to Join. Remember to put your name (highly recommended to use a Sinosphere name (e.g. Chinese, Mongolian, Korean, Japanese, Jurchen, Manchu, Vietnam) or a Sinified name (e.g. Johnny -> Zhong Ni). Once I receive it, I will generate your relationships and starting area to fit your background and provide some interesting hooks, and you can begin from there. I am okay to do solo or as a group.

Do note that all the talents, flaws, items etc are only points of reference and inspiration, if you want any talent or flaw or something as part of your starting circumstance that you really wish to try out, let me know, and I will arrange it as much as I can.

Post Frequency

As I am currently running another game, I will expect posts at least once every week. I will of course try my best to check every day and make a post whenever there is a new one at least once a day if I can. If you don't feel like continuing anymore, please just feel free to leave abruptly, though I would appreciate it if you could also tell me why you're not continuing (e.g. game is too boring etc) so I can gather feedback to improve the system and my overall DMing.

Introduction and Rules

Combat Rules (Tentative)

1.Each actor or group of actors involved in combat will roll a 1d100 and add it to their Speed (SPD) – this is called Initiative. Turns will take place in descending order of Initiative.

2.During each turn everyone declares their actions and they are resolved concurrently.

3.During others’ turns, a character who is being acted on by another will be able to declare a reaction e.g. Parry, Dodge, Counter etc

Types of Rolls

Opposed Roll - Roll a 1d100 and add the relevant skill or ability. The larger of the two competing rolls wins.

Self Roll - Roll a 1d100 and compare it with the relevant skill or (a multiple of an) ability. If the roll is less than or equals to the relevant number, it is a success.

Mechanics Update - Arts Progression

Added a new mechanic which goes into more detail how one trains a martial, social or crafting art and how he can modify the art based on his experience with it: https://cluelessdelver.blogspo...tml#arts-progression

Elements Update - More Elements

This kind of deviates from traditional Chinese philosophy, but my mind went wild and I wanted to fill the world with more crazy concepts, so I added around 15 more advanced elements that can be taken as affinities. There is also fancy diagram you can check out: https://cluelessdelver.blogspo...l#elemental-affinity

These elements are extremely rare, and most often used by those with a special bloodline, or eaten some very rare spiritual fruit, so even if you have such an affinity, the chance of you finding a method that cultivates the affinity is very rare, and will be most of the time pretty useless. But if by sheer luck or decades of determination you manage to obtain a method that makes use of such affinity, you can expect to be quite a formidable expert to even those who are above your cultivation stage.

Temporary Status Condition List

I will list a few Status Conditions one may be under and how they work in terms of combat. Will update the rules with them once there are enough.

Stunned: Can neither make actions nor reactions.

Asleep: Can neither make actions nor reactions. Can be awoken from loud noises and being shaken awake (consumes an action)
