Game Start - Choosing Characters

1/  I really enjoy having purpose in game, beyond what I create for myself ... and connection with at least one other character.  There is little stronger connection and purpose than keeping another character in the game alive.
And I like the strong, silent, deadly type:  for example, in The Matrix my favourite character was, by far, Switch.

2/  I enjoy playing the quietly competent character:  the one that just gets things done.  Something behind the scenes, and sometimes with unexpected brutality.

M'Lady, it will be an honour to serve you.

I’m gonna give it at least one more day, but we have a good character pairing to start off with, leaving the other characters for people who want to drop in.

Oh, also, the game is set as mature, which makes it so that there is no explicit gore or sex, while it can be implied/happen off screen or in a fade to black. Are there any other things you do not like to have in our game? For those familiar with the term: What are your lines and veils?

A line is a hard no, we will not have this in the game, not even off screen or implied.

A veil is something we do not want to dwell upon, but which can be referred to briefly or happen off screen.

I don't have much in the way of 'lines' that isn't already forbidden by the 'no explicit gore or sex'.  Especially, I expect that to include any sexual abuse.

I don't have much problem with -isms, including racism and sexism, so long as it is obviously portrayed as Bad Behaviour tm ... which usually means, its the bad guys using the -isms and by doing so, proving themselves to be bad guys.

... or am I misunderstanding what is being asked?

Game Start - Choosing Characters

Allright, while we get ready to play, let’s talk a bit about the game. I think most of you have played before but I think at least one might not have. Either way, through any preconceived expectations overboard since every Lady Blackbird game is different!

While for some reason the idea of steampunk has settled on the game nothing in the game dictates it to be so. There is a lot of implied setting, and there are a lot of things we’ll make up along the way. I think, all in all it lends itself mostly to cinematic play. There’s a lot of focus on characters and things can get larger than life. To me it feels pulpy, like a Joss Whedon. I get Firefly vibes more than steampunk. But I think it lends itself to many esthetics. I think a StarWars type approach is also possible as is an Anime approach.

What kind of esthetic would you guys like this to be in?

I've started it but have put out feelers for the captain and snargle. I'll npc them for now so we can get started.

I've added Snargle to the game. Hi! What appeals to you in the Snargle character?

Game Start - Choosing Characters

Hello! I was torn between choosing the Captain and Snargle but what sealed Snargle is that he reminded me a bit of Wash from Firefly (who was my favorite character). I also felt like he was intended to be the sort of throwaway comic relief character and I wanted to bring more depth to him than that. I like the comic relief side of him but he shouldn't just be the wacky goblin mascot, you know?

My real challenge is going to be not hitting the Buyout on Key to Banter: "Everyone groans at one of your comments" because I love dad jokes way too much.

Hahahah. As I read it, the buy-off just becomes available to you then, but is not mandatory.

I’ll be helping Snarg’s hit that key.
It’s a hard one to justify in online games … so anytime I snigger, I’ll say so.
