Break Room

To be used for assorted chatter once there are people to engage in such.

If you are here, feel free to ask me anything about the setting or the game, or just to talk about concepts and the like.

I'm planning to give people from the Marvel Masks game at least a couple of days to apply before making a general recruitment thread if I don't get enough responses as it is.

Obviously, they can always apply after that as well. I just think it might be easier if we get enough people from there, since I already know that they can be relied on to be around and to write good characters for this sort of game. But if not, I'm sure it won't be difficult to find willing and able Masks players elsewhere on the site.

Made an ad in the Wanted Players forum. I admit I expected more players to come over from the Marvel game early on, but in some ways it would be a relief to have fewer players to choose between for the first team. Though of course I may be speaking too early. Well, there are pros and cons either way. I just hope we get enough for a team soon to let us really start working on this game!

...ha, well, that didn't take long. Welcome aboard! Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with.

So, it seems the initial influx of prospective players has ended - which is just as well since we already have more than enough for a team here. More people are still welcome to apply. Experience suggests that some may drop off along the way. Still, in all likelihood, I may have to make some difficult choices soon.

The pseudo-deadline of August 2 still holds. If anyone here wants more time to write about their characters, though, please let me know. I'm not in any hurry - I just don't want to drag things out needlessly if everyone is good to move on to the next stage.

I've really enjoyed the back and forth with all of you, in case you couldn't tell. The ideas have come along nicely so far. I'll do another pass soon to see if there are any points I missed and maybe add a bit more structure.

Other than that, the main thing you all ought to do before the soft deadline is to answer the backstory questions for your chosen character(s). You can also start working on the rest of the sheet, though it's not quite as important and doesn't have to be set in stone yet. Another thing I plan to do soon is find/make a decent sheet template, but so long as all the stuff from the playbook is there it should be fine.

Also, you are very much encouraged to comment on each others' threads if you have anything to add! An exchange of ideas is a part of the point of letting people make their characters here rather than by PM.

Even if you don't end up on the same team, such discussions can still help generate world-building ideas - and if the character makes it into the game later, having some shared groundwork already in the setting would help.

I got a little busier than I expected. For this and other real life reasons I'm moving the deadline to August 7, mostly just to be on the safe side if I fail to respond as quickly.

I'll be free enough to respond to the threads in a few hours, hopefully.

Odin:
- Nomad
- Harbinger
- Beacon

PSinha:
- Transformed

I realise now that perhaps I should have been more precise about the deadline. I intend to announce a team approximately 24 hours from now. If you want a little more time than that to finish a character or make some major changes, then please let me know in advance. (However, a little means a little - I do want to move on to the next stage this weekend.)

To be honest, I do have a preliminary idea of what the first team might be by this point. Nevertheless, it is still in flux, and someone could always surprise me with something even better. I have to say, you people haven't made this easy for me. I mean that in the best way possible. :)

Break Room

I have decided on the first team:
 - Argo, the Bull, played by McS;
 - Leech, the Doomed, played by Baeraad;
 - Harbinger, the Harbinger, played by Odin;
 - Reverie, the Innocent, played by Nox;
 - Ironheart, the Reformed, played by Riven;
 - Cyclone Burst, the Protégé, played by PSinha.

As I promised, the team was selected based on the story potential I saw in it. It wasn't an easy choice. I enjoyed reading about all the characters that were submitted here, even the ones that weren't finished. I have at least a couple of hooks for each of them that I would love to pursue. For that matter, I also had another team idea I quite liked, even if it was a rather more vague.

It was really tempting to just say I'd run two teams, or maybe make this one bigger from the outset. However, I fear that doing so might stretch me far too thin. I'd rather start with one team... and then see how it goes.

So, what's next?

For those who didn't get picked: Thank you for your time. I hope you don't feel like it was wasted. Feel free to stick around as the peanut gallery and, if you wish, to keep working on characters (for that matter, those who were picked can do so as well). I would really like to avoid player loss, but it is a fact of life in PbP, so there may well be openings in the future. I may also add another team at some point in the future, if I find the time and energy for it (or if this team folds early - again, I'd rather avoid that, but I've seen it happen all too often). If you are still around and interested if and when we have new vacancies, you will have another chance to get in.

For those who did get picked: I am going to rename you all to your new characters, then put together a Team Thread for all your Influence, Relationship, etc. needs. Also, finish up your sheets if you haven't yet and put them in description.

Your alternative characters may also get another shot in the future if there is a second team and if you feel up to it then. I don't want to close the door on them for good. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
