Campaign Rules & Etiquette

Rules
  • I firmly believe in Rule Zero.  I don't invoke it often,
  • I believe in RAW until I don't.  We will stay within the rules of the game and try to make it work with existing rules and rulings.  However, sometimes I find instances where the rules don't work; in these cases, I'll try my best to make a fair decision.
  • Communication.  If you're going to be busy, let me know.  If you're having a problem in game, let me know.  If I (or a player) misinterpret something, let us know.
  • This game is rated Mature, but mostly because the Crit table is pretty gnarly and characters have a good chance of dying.  Sex can be implied, but let's leave that in the bedroom.  Any player has the right to play the X-Card if something makes them uncomfortable.  And don't forget, you are supposed to be the heroes.

Posts
  • Players should strive to post daily, weekends optional.  If a player does not make a post within 48hrs, I continue the story along while remaining true to that character.
  • Sometimes less is more.  In Play-by-Post games, I find that more is more.  I expect substance in your posts, though sometimes it is definitely appropriate to give a short reaction post.
  • Don't just talk.  If you want to post about your character giving a speech, add details about their posture, their voice, and to whom they look as they speak.
  • This is an online game, and we live in different time zones.  If you (like me) post far too often, ensure that you aren't leaving anyone behind.  Don't try to progress the story before other players have an opportunity to react.

Structure
  • Feel free to choose a color for your character's text.  It helps differentiate different characters at a quick glance.  Do not choose Orange for this.
  • IC should go before OOC.  I personally like to break them up using the line break code, "< hr >", but this isn't necessary.  OOC should be in orange.
  • Normal dialogue should be in quotes.
  • Whispering should be Small and in quotes.
  • Shouting should be Bold and in quotes.
  • Thoughts should be Italicized and in apostrophes.
  • If a roll was made, please copy the results into the post.

quote:
The warrior's voice raised from a whisper to a shout.  "I already told you that I will not BOW TO YOU!"  'I truly hope that got the message across,' she thinks to herself.

11:36, Today: Sigurd the Strong rolled 92 using 1d100+55.  Skill: Charisma.

Etiquette
  • This is a cooperative storytelling game.  We are all here to have fun.  Fun is mandatory.  If you are causing another player to not have fun, or another player is causing you to not have fun, I would like to be notified.
  • Inter-party conflict is a staple of the Epic Fantasy genre!  You will all struggle together, you will have opposing ideas and beliefs.  However, I would prefer to avoid player-vs-player combat if possible.  That said, there can be exceptions if it adds to the fun.
  • Don't control other players in your posts.  You can give them prompts, you can ask questions, but you can't control their reactions or answers.  For example, you can tell the Dwarf that you're uncomfortable with how much they're drinking, especially after 'last time'.  That's a prompt!  Another example, if your character farts, you can describe the smell that other characters might experience, should they be unwise enough to take a wiff.  (Note, fart jokes aren't that funny, especially when you have to write them out.)
  • I encourage you to handle unnamed NPCs, but do so reasonably.  You can write about how passersby look down their nose at your filthy character, but please don't start a duel between NPC lovers in the middle of the street.
