Game Rules & Character Creation

Character Creation

  1. Starting level is 1.

  2. For ability scores - Point Buy with 30 points.

  3. HP is max for level 1. For every level after 1, roll your HP and if you get less than the average for the die, take the average instead.

  4. All official WotC published content is allowed. Unearthed Arcana is not allowed.

  5. All character options from Tasha's are allowed.

  6. Multiclassing and Feats are both allowed. If you want to multiclass, I prefer that you roleplay that before the fact so that you don't just wake up one day and suddenly know how to be a wizard. I'm happy to work with you on it, and it doesn't even have to be a lot, just something.

  7. Players start with no gold and no equipment.

  8. If you're going to be gone for a period of time, post it in the Planned Absences thread so that everyone knows, and I will NPC you for that time as necessary.

  9. Starting equipment and gold - you start with nothing but Common Clothes, no gold at all.

Game Rules & Character Creation

House Rules
  • Tracking ammunition sucks. If it's not magical, you have an infinite supply.
  • Magical ammo will be tracked normally, however.
  • Tracking encumbrance sucks too. If you're not going over the top with multiple suits of armor or an inventory of weapons that would put a blacksmith to shame, I don't care.
  • Tracking food sucks too. However, we will be tracking this, at least to start. You'll see why when we actually get into place. Once we get things flowing, this will fade away and no longer matter.
  • Critical hits should be cool, and rolling 1's for your crit damage sucks. Brutal criticals will be in effect for this game. This means that on a critical hit you will roll damage as though it were a normal hit, and then add bonus damage as though your extra dice had all rolled maximum damage. A hit that would normally do 1d12+3, for example, would instead deal 1d12+15. A spell that would normally do 4d6 will instead do 4d6+24.
  • There may be certain encounters in which I borrow a feature from 4E, which is monsters called "minions". These are monsters that are identical in all ways to the normal version of that monster, except that they have only 1 hit point. Having some form of AoE or multi-target actoin is very important for encounters such as these, so you may want to plan accordingly. These encounters will not be common (unless you crazy kids end up loving them), so don't build your character around such a thing, just keep it in mind if you find yourself facing overwhelming numbers.
  • Bad things happen when you die, [the rest of this message has been redacted.]
  • Flanking will be in effect for this adventure. This module is designed to be deadly, so this is used specifically for you to be able to abuse it.
