This small fiefdom, located north of Ruthland in the beginning of the Cold Wastes, is an oddity. It is ruled by a man called Silence, who suits his name - he never speaks, though he does communicate by signs and writing readily. He is a powerful mage, on par with the great powers of the supernal world. However, most of his attention is apparently taken up with something referred to as "the Sleeper" which lies north of the Frozen Fields, near the pole. Residents of the Frozen Fields do not discuss the Sleeper, and certainly not with outsiders, leaving it largely a mystery what it is and why it is such an important presence in their world. Silence reports only that he is currently successfully containing it and further knowledge need not be shared.

Whatever the case, his requests in trade for magical consultation are reasonable, and he has made himself something of an ally to Ruthland simply by being completely unconcerned with them. His people subsist on arctic fishing, mining, and crops from southern climes where the growing season isn't so painfully short.
