Re: Character Generation

Khuevaengh's backstory, as self-narrated:

Term 0 (Pre-Career): "Rinvoengerrazodhae is a war-wracked mining colony where you can look forward to a life of drilling into rock and hoping that it doesn't kill you before the next revolt does."

Term 1 (Corsair/Reaver): "When one of the bands that frequents the place thinks you're a good prospect, you don't need to say 'yes'. They already knows it's your answer."

Term 2 (Merchant/Broker): "You can do all of the mercenary work, protection, and raiding you please, but you still need to move those goods when you're done."

Term 3 (Marine/Support): "I wasn't much of a salvage-peddler, so when the leaders started talking war, I had a new use for my skills. As it happened, the only real difference was the scenery: a lot less crawling through ducts and a lot more crawling through dirt."

Term 4 (Citizen/Worker): "Talented engineers are always in demand, and that's especially true after a war. Everyone needs to rebuild the things they just spent years blasting apart."

Term 5 (Loner/Hunter): "All that dirt-crawling was good training when it came time to lead paying customers out into the bush to shoot whatever they thought would look good when served on their dinner table or mounted on their wall."

Term 6 (Scientist/Technician): "They wanted to collect whole rather than in pieces, but the basic idea was the same. I learned just enough about the subject to know it was all way over my head, but as long as the ship's systems kept doing what they wanted, I kept getting paid."

Most of these terms were spent primarily in the Extents, though the last term was associated with the I.S.S. and therefore mostly within and sometimes beyond Imperium space.

That makes term 6 the most likely point of contact, though if someone had cause to visit the Extents earlier than that (or is from there, of course) then that could work too.

Re: Character Generation

Okay, with those Connections skills in place, I now need to come up with a lot of NPC's. 3 Allies, 1 Rival(ex-lover), and 1 Enemy(Corporate spy).

Then gear.

Re: Character Generation

Syrris, 6 terms all in different careers? Was that on purpose or did you have a real rough time with Survival rolls?

Re: Character Generation

It was deliberate: the character was originally done as an experiment in extreme vargr career-switching. (Their careers don't slap you with a qualification penalty for having previous ones, and there's far less of a cultural hangup about trying something new when you're bored with your current job.)

There *was* one failed qualification roll (resulting in the Loner term), but survival was never a problem.

Re: Character Generation

I wound up with a relatively straightforward path, not at all fraught with hardships.

The sort of life, I suppose, which is befitting the offspring of a noble family without a title to call his own, when his parents have decided to put him aside. :)

Re: Character Generation

Since connections don't need to involve personal meetings, were any of your characters involved in mercenary, arms dealing, construction supply, etc, during terms 3-4? That could tie in to the events that he was involved in, even if it was at the other end of the supply chain.

Likewise, if anyone had a habit of chasing after odd creatures to hunt - or obscure archaeological sites to dig up - then term 5 would be an option.

And if anyone was up to illegal stuff even before that, well...

When you have worked out your connections can you please make a post along the lines of:

Connected to [Character]: [Reason] - [Skill Bonus]

Just so I'm aware of which connections everyone is working with and the skills they have obtained through their connections.

Wonderful! I'll put my stamp of approval on this connection. Maybe we played some card games while you recovered, and I got the gambler skill out of it? (Of course, I never won...)

Re: Character Generation

Yu can gain a full level of up to 2 skills total with the connections rule, but all you really need to do is ask another player to share 1 event with them. You can't gain these points from the same traveller, but you can have connections with all of them if you really want to. You just can't benefit from all of them.

Re: Character Generation

Since we're coming from all over the place, we've probably all been through places with varying tech levels, and Drinax itself is generally TL14 with mountains of TL15 heirlooms (even if it has trouble producing new ones).

It also isn't a campaign that's predicated on restricting PC access to things (it's full of Flash Gordon references for a reason), so my guess is that you're probably good up to TL 14-15 as long as you can afford it and it isn't a really crazy item (like a pocket nuke).
