Re: Character Generation

Just submitted my benefit rolls to the GM for approval, so that's still up in the air, but here's what I've got as far as an actual character goes.

Ignatius Drenn, noble of high birth and a terrible congenital condition that makes him extremely allergic to work. Gambler, womanizer, playboy, charmer, scoundrel, rascal, rake. He can wield social skills like an ortillery piece, which should make him perfect for navigating Drinax's impenetrable high society.

Syrris:
Character Name: Benedict Rapp

And he's becoming a pirate? There are going to be unending jokes about his Rapp sheet.

He 'died' twice in 4 terms. he's sad, but I'll do it! ;-)

No doubt he'll get captured and executed!

Re: Character Generation

We doing connections game master?

Benedict is from Tech-World, his parents from Neumann, they were/are part of the society maintaining the robots there.

He served two tours in the Scouts and two in the Navy, 'killed' in both and had to muster out.

I'm good with you setting up connections. 2 improved skills maximum as per the rulebook. I would suggest you use the connections to round out the skills to cover the roles on the ship if necessary

Who wants to know Benedict? 2 term scout who had to be rescued, 2 term navy was wounded severely.

Re: Character Generation

Whelp, I didn't end up getting any actual Leadership skill during creation, so I'm afraid I'll have to cede the big chair to dragonrider912. Given Iggy's talents and social clout, I'm sorry to say that this leaves me as...

Well...

Re: Character Generation

In reply to NowhereMan (msg # 27):

Don't feel that let down. I was surprised I made Captain at all. I usually get ejected from a career much earlier.

As for Events and making them match up, I posted them up in my character rolls earlier, but I was a part of a Diplomatic Mission at some point, and I foiled a Sabatoge Attempt on one of the ships I served on. There were several life Events too, but the only one of note I can think of was the Ancient Technology one.

I think I could have met up with Benedict during that scrap on board the, let's call it the Horizon Guardian, a heavy corvette, where in the engineering bay, I had to rapidly repair a degrading j-drive while you had taken down the real threat, getting yourself injured pretty badly in the process.

That's one for us, must have been the Navy career. I still have room for a doctor or a salvager that rescued me from when I was a Surveyor scout.

Re: Character Generation

Precisely the opposite of Benedict, really. Failed to get into university, then nothing bad ever happened to him again. Granted, it's pretty hard to fail a Survival roll with a target of 3.

Iggy's highly specialized towards the social part of the equation, just lacking leadership ability. Which I may pick up through Connections, come to think of it. Would at least make a serviceable backup to El Capitan, and that +3 SOC makes even Leadership 1 fairly decent.

As for events, most of mine are fairly mild, since Noble doesn't lend towards much excitement.  Here's the list:

Term 1: Life Event, Improved Relationship: A romantic relationship involving you deepens, possibly leading to marriage or some other emotional commitment. Gain an Ally.

Term 2: Your reign is acclaimed by all as being fair and wise – or in the case of a dilettante, you sponge off your family’s wealth a while longer. Gain either a jealous relative or an unhappy subject as an Enemy. Gain DM+2 to your next Advancement check.

Term 3: You manipulate and charm your way through high society. Gain one level of Carouse, Diplomat, Persuade or Steward, as well as a Rival and an Ally.

Term 4: A conspiracy of nobles attempts to recruit you. If you refuse, gain the conspiracy as an Enemy. If you accept, roll Deception 8+ or Persuade 8+. If you fail, roll on the Mishap Table as the conspiracy collapses. If you succeed, Gain one level of Deception, Persuade, Tactics or Carouse.

Term 5: New Relationship: You become involved in a romantic relationship. Gain an Ally.

Term 6: A conspiracy of nobles attempts to recruit you. (Yep, this happened again.)

Term 7: You become deeply involved in politics on your world of residence, becoming a player in the political intrigues of government. Gain one level in Advocate, Admin, Diplomacy or Persuade, but also gain a Rival.

That diplomatic mission of yours, dragonrider, could be a possible connection, what with the Dukedom and all. Or perhaps one of those romantic entanglements was a relative of yours?

In reply to zagygthemad (msg # 32):

Well then, I think that the foil sabatoge still lines up decently enough with your Naval career.

I do like the Bad Romance lining up with your Duke stuff. I did start with a fairly high SOC rating, so it could have been your character telling him to square his shoulders and ignore her returning his focus to his Naval Career. Granted, seeing as he left for a better offer right after he made Captain, obviously he wasn't going to stick around to pull a pension when he had 1 last hurrah for glory, and to find romance on his terms.

Edit: So that would be Leadership 1 due to the Duke, and Engineering (j-drive) 1 due to Mr. Rapp.

Yep, that sounds like Iggy's bad influence.

...Wait, you should have gotten Leadership 1 from your Naval rank when you hit Sublieutenant.

Re: Character Generation

I'll probably be grabbing Leadership from that Connection as well. Depending on what your end-result is, we may actually end up with the same DM for Leadership.

If the ship wasn't a loaner, I'd suggest an Owner/Captain partnership, but I unfortunately had to sacrifice my 1ΒΌ yachts in the name of game balance. Came out with 12 ship shares, though, so we're getting all those fittings replaced.

That's how things usually go. Someone owns the ship, and then someone else has to be in charge of the crew and running things.

Re: Character Generation

Yep, thus Fozzy. The "financier", as it were, since Iggy technically won't own the Harrier, he'll just have dumped a mind-boggling amount of credits into it.

In all honesty, he wouldn't want to be in charge, but "Pirate Captain" would look nice on his lifetime achievement roll. I'm sure there's technically a term for a noble attached to a privateer without being its captain, because that sounds precisely like something one  of the major powers would have pulled during the Age of Sail.
