Gazette - Ocean world Nodens

Welcome to Nodens.

Nodens is an abyssal sea world.  Legend among the denizens is that the greatest swimmer of all time swam down for so long that he swam up and out the other side of the planet.  It is similar in size to earth, and maintains one G of surface gravity.

Nodens orbits the sun Grannis.  Grannis is one of ten red dwarf stars orbiting the yellow sun Iomedae.

Nodens has one tidally locked moon, Desna, which keeps the planet stable.

The planet Nodens is home to mega-fauna that embody living islands on which surface life thrives.  The most common are giant island turtles.

The main creation myth on Nodens is that the ancient Sun Forgers spent aeons building the eleven suns in the sky, perfecting their art before growing weary and wishing for a place to rest.  They met up, and decided that after spending an eternity forging in fire, they wished to rest in the cool water.  Thus, they turned their great tools towards forging Nodens, the world where they would descend from the heavens and lay down their tools to rest at long last.

Gazette - Ocean world Nodens

There are three tiers of titan-turtle:
Surface, subsurface, and deep sea.  Surfaced turtles are the normal landmasses, subsurface are island turtles that have dove down to the point that they become essentially a shallow seabed, deep sea are island turtles that have gone deep, and often carry ancient submerged ruins.

Titan-Boas are sea snakes of unimaginable length, sections of the snake above water are where surface life dwells, while underwater portions form safe harbors for sea life.  These form island chains.

Titan-boars are pissed-off boars that are maddeningly enraged at being surrounded by water.  They huff and puff and erupt in huge plumes of fire, the sea is often turbulent around them or boiling when they get even further upset.  These tend to be about the size of Hawaii. However, they are prime real-estate for denizens that prefer toasty environments, and surfers.

Demi-Bloons: Colossal spherical creatures around the size of New York, these creatures drift around in the sky, long dangly strands filter feeding it.  The creature is almost entirely hollow, allowing aerial denizens to fly up through the  bottom of the creature and build inside of the colossal cavern.  Aerial races and species make their homes inside it and travel wherever the wind blows.  Dragons capable of flight tend to prefer making their lairs inside smaller ones, called Dragon-Bloons, or just dabloons. The exterior of Demi-bloons are covered in various species of Slimes that keep the Demi-bloon moisturized.  It's said that if all the slimes are removed, the bloon will die.  This slime covering gives them a rainbow sheen, and no two bloons look alike, making it easy to identify a familiar demi-bloon.

Magic Towers: Some time in the distant past, magic users were swept up in a trend of building flying magic towers.  This trend has long since died down, but there are plenty of ancient towers lost in the sky.  Some were counter-culture and wanted to say they built submersible towers before it was cool, so there are also plenty of magic towers lost to the depths, still operational long after their magic users have passed away, waiting to be of service yet again.  The challenge for adventurers is that these towers are Sapient, all with their own personalities and goals.  (suggested by Tidale Stromgurd)

Dungeon Whales: Also known as Trial Whales.  These creatures travel around and swallow promising individuals to take the trials inside them. Every Dungeon whale carries vast wealth, treasures, and mystical inheritances they wish to pass on to someone worthy.  There is an entire 'Whaling' industry taken up by adventurers. Whaling here, however, is diving down to a Dungeon Whale and taking its trials.  Dungeon Whales are known to be much larger inside than they appear, filled with catacombs, stone castles, even entire worlds.  Most Whales near habitats are known, and the locals can give details about what they have experienced in the trials, as generally most Dungeon Whales will spit out those that fail the trial the moment they might die.  However, as any sentient species, Dungeon Whales all have their own personality and alignment.  (suggested by Tidale Stromgurd)

Sky Islands are upside-down lands far up in the distant sky.  Somehow, the gravity is reversed near the island, causing those near it to fall up towards the island and land on it, It is said that if you fall off the edge of a sky island, you will fall forever upwards into the void and be lost for eternity.  The air is exceedingly thin approaching, however, once close enough to be pulled in the air thickens rapidly until most creatures can breath easily.    There exist very few known sky islands due to just how far you must travel to reach them, most are simply not visible from the sea's surface.  It is said that vast palaces and riches exist on them, and they are populated by peoples of breath taking beauty. (suggested by Tidale Stromgurd)

catfolk live on Catspaws - colossal floating lilypads with great tall stalks on which man-sized flowers may bloom, the nector is sweet and delicious and a favorite treat ever year of the tribes on the catspaws.  These plants gained their name because the pads have little catspaw patterns on them.

Legend passed down by the catfolk say that these pads are a blessing to their people from a very long time ago, now long lost to history.  And, since catfolk live fairly happy lives without disaster, perhaps it's true.

Catspaw sprawls with plenty of spare pads to use as material for simple homes and bedding.
