Copenhagen Scene 4: Exploring the Ruins

Your group takes their leave of the temple district and heads north into the ruins, searching for the Cyberpapal agents. A few kilometers into the trip, the familiar look of barricades across the road alerts you to another attempted ambush.

This time, however, a woman in chain mail that appears to have come straight from a Renaissance Faire whistles, and the other leather-clad humans stop before they can engage. She turns to them and announces: "Public drinking holiday today, folks! All work is now canceled so we can drink with our new friends," gesturing toward you.

The other humans cheer and tap a keg of beer for themselves. The woman steps up to your group: "They're addicted to that bitter-herb elf stuff. For you, I have some fine dwarven ale straight from the mainland that I keep for special occasions.

"But where are my manners? I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Jabbelline Agate-Eye, leader of this motley crew. What brings folks like you to our area?"

"Hiya I'm Case Morrow, pleased to metcha!" Case replies to the friendly band of (?)highway robbers.  "As far as what brings us to your neck of the woods, I don't suppose you've seen stranger looking folk than us pass through headin' North lately?  Cyberpriests, look like catholic priests but with metal bits in their skin?  We're trying to hunt them down."

Listening carefully to her response, "So what's to the North that made moving your camp here a better choice?"

"We heard cries and grunts nearby and investigated. The place was infested with draugr, Vikings who had been raised from the dead by foul worshippers of the gods of Corruption. It is said that the leader of the Bjanni tribe is the high priest of Corba'al, the god of necromancy and the most influential of the Corrupt gods.

"We made plans that night to move south to avoid these abominations. As we were leaving, we saw large creatures being herded into cages. It was too dark to make out what they were, but I think I saw the beasts had wings. That would make them either baby dragons or larger members of the drake family."

"Sounds like they're gathering some monsters to attack Copenhagen.  That viking zombie riding that wyvern to the North while we were beating on those elves probably comes from there."  Case considers a moment and then asks Jabbelline, "Have you seen any other outsiders besides the cyberpriests?  Egyptians dressed kindof funny?"  Holding up one hand so Revenant doesn't have a line of sight on his movements, Case makes a pointing motion with the other hand towards his not-an-Egyptian-fascist comrade and mouths the words 'Like him'.

When the bandit leader mentioned undead Vikings, he nodded. "Can you show us where the dead viking riding a flying lizard came from?"

Copenhagen Scene 4: Exploring the Ruins

Case looks at the name on the church: "Oradour-sur-Glane". That's an awfully French name for a Danish cathedral. He is beginning to suspect an illusion.

A shout from Ivan causes Case to jump back away from the cathedral in time to avoid being peppered by needles from ten high tech pistols. They seem to have been fired through the cathedral's walls, and the outlines of police officers in powered armor can be seen "inside".

OOC: The cathedral is a "hard light" illusion. What is behind it is an actual ruined building which they are using as cover and concealment. When doing ranged attacks against them, you can choose to take a -4 concealment penalty or attack normally but grant them the benefit of increasing their armor value to +6 (from the +4) their "Armor of God" provides.

Ivan has played Alertness to avoid giving the church police surprise.

Ooc:
17:37, Today: Jacob Amer (Revenant) rolled 15 using 1d20.  Lasso. I dont care to do damage, but instead just to pull my target out into the open. A lasso allows someone to grapple at a 10m range. Despite that, Jacob makes sure to disarm them in case they have any hidden weapons. At the end of the day, these people served the high lords. They where helping the enemy conquer and kill countless innocents. A quick death would be too good for them, but Jacob was no torturer. Besides, it did not actually work for getting info. He did make sure they where restrained however, using his lengths of rope.

Each officer carries a gun that fires needle-like projectiles, a riot stick, and a crucifix that appears to be made from circuitry. They are wearing an advanced form of body armor that covers their full body, lighter than Kevlar but just as effective in stopping projectiles. The group is able to remove this equipment from the officers without objection.

Additionally, a machine is found projecting the image of the French cathedral onto the original building. This can be disabled with a simple switch. Inside the building, ten backpacks of gear and rations are piled in a corner.

Trouble is, no Core Earth map shows Lake Armsvartnir. So Brother Laplace took the majority of the Techquisition forces with him to Sweden to search for this lake. A few things to consider:

1. The Russian delegation here would be at an embassy. While it's technically Russian territory and can legally have whatever the Russian government puts there, protocol suggests only having whatever armaments are needed to defend the compound. Of course, Russia is known for "bending protocol" as needed, but bear in mind that anything sneaked in is likely small to avoid detection.

2. You are still on good terms with the Danish Army, so maybe Major Nielsen could get something powerful for you.

3. Regardless of how you want to go about it, remember there's an assassination attempt on the mayor tonight, so time is a concern.

He looks to Ivan and the others, "We can bend reality.  That's a bigger advantage than a few rockets.  If you don't think we can kill undead and a giant flying lizard or two without them, then we should probably see if we can get some for latter (since we might see them tonight anyway) but return to protect the mayor.  But either way I'd like to get moving now."

The church police, still bound, are shoved into the back of the van. The location marked by the bandit leader for the wyverns pops up on the GPS and you head there.

A few hundred meters from the destination, the wind shifts and brings an unpleasant surprise: Rotting, charred meat, soiled straw, and something reminiscent of corpse flowers assail your noses even through the closed windows of the van. You know it's going to be worse when you actually exit.

Everyone somehow manages to get out of the van without losing the contents of their stomachs. The camp and the cages you were told about are now empty.

OOC: People can investigate the campground using any of the following skills: evidence analysis, tracking, or faith. People using the same skill can instead use combined action for whichever one has the better value.

"Well obviously we're too late, let's get back to City Hall and save the mayor," Case says as he heads for their ride.

"Enemy have travel time too" Ivan noted, heading for the van. Stopping at the Cyberpapists, he collected a couple of their pistols. Brass was always on them for 'examples of high-tech', so one for the KGB and one for GRU.

This ends the scene. Upon reaching City Hall, the security detail informs you that Mayor Madsden has been relocated to Amalienborg Palace, where three Danish Army squads are stationed. Hand resets take place now, and the action will pick up at the palace.

Title: Precision

Copenhagen Scene 4: Exploring the Ruins

OOC: We have Jacob offering a card for trade, Johnny needs to discard one card, and then people need to decide if they're fine with their hand or trade one card in for a random replacement.

I can see a use for Case with Precision but I think I'll hold the Rally for now.  As before, no discard.

It doesn't look like the trade is happening, so I'm closing this thread and setting up for the next scene.
