Re: Out of Character Thread

As most of you are attacking from range and all of the wolves are currently in melee with Johnny, I offer a tactic I have seen in other Torg games: If Johnny acts first, he can attack with his blade and then move out of melee. He will become Vulnerable, but the others will be able to fire at the wolves afterward with no chance of damaging Johnny.

Out of Character Thread

Hello everyone. The GM has been kind enough to add me. I am a huge fun of Torg, so it's great to find a game of it on RPOL.

I've added a description

Out of Character Thread

Well this will be the shortest lived character ever

I joined thinking this was 'torg'. It's actually 'torg eternity' which is (I have discovered since joining) an entirely different system.

I've ran and played in torq games for decades in the old system. I didn't realise that the torg eternity was new. All the following of course is just my opinion. It's about the changes to the rules. All the negative comments are aimed at the writers of the new rules, not at this game

From my perspective all the goodness has been drained from the magic systems and the miracle system. There's no difference between any of the magic systems now: they are all homogenous and far 'safer' to play with than the previous.
  • The coolness of the aylse magic system which lifted it far above any other magic system I am aware of (apart from Ars Magica which is cool in its own way) has gone. Where are the 'arcane knowledges'? Where is the spontaneousness? What happened to the Law of Observation? Backlash?
  • The miracles no longer are any different to magic. They are just 'here's a spell, cast it'. Where is the faith conflict? The community effect? The loss of faith rules? the importance of the miracle influencing the casting? They are just spells now. Like D20. Fire and forget.
  • The psionics have had an upgrade which they needed so that's a positive thing
  • There are some nice new systems (electrical samurai for example) that's good to see
  • The reality system has been simplified and butchered.
  • The pulp super powers are ... a shadow of what they were.

It's like coming to a thing you love and finding the bits you love have been amputated in the interests of simplfication and homogenisation.

It looks like you have a good GM. The world is great. There are great stories to be told. The rules system still has some goodness left in it, even if the magic systems have been butchered. The die rolling system is great, possibilities are great, the cards are great.

I hope you enjoy it

I really appreciate the chance to come and try and join, but the changes are too great for me to feel comfortable with. Please remove me.

Hail and farewell Sapphire.

If it helps, I agree with all of your points, but the GM tells a good story, even handicapped by a nerfed system. Story is what counts.

¿Can we get the +4 damage from a Called Shot(Head[-4]) or are these things immune to such?

Re: Out of Character Thread

You can do any of the following:

1. No modifier but no damage bonus (Vulnerables still apply, but the one Jacob was pinning is now defeated so we don't have one now).
2. Take -2 Called Shot to avoid armor.
3. Take -4 Called Shot to not only avoid armor but also provide +4 to damage.
4. Something else, with results I will judge as it happens.

People can also coordinate just as the Sjodrekkar Vikings are doing: One does an interaction to make someone Vulnerable (which also cancels shield) while someone else follows up with an improved attack based on that Vulnerable.

Re: Out of Character Thread

If I play the Seize Initiative to keep this one, I will also play the Go for Broke Cosm Card allowing us to ignore up to 4 points of penalties (Called Shot?) per action.

If anyone wants to get a new Initiative instead, let me know.

Ack! Waiting on me? I'm so sorry. I'm getting ready to move and things are bloody hectic. RL is kicking me in the face over and over right now. :(

Apologies to all. I've recently moved and don't have internet in the new place. I was going to take care of that today but I'm in quarantine due to a nasty case of Covid. :(

I'll post as I can between being deathly ill and having spotty access.

I had a bit of a rush of everyone demanding my time IRL so haven't been paying much attention to this, but will be more on top of the game now that the rush has died down.

Re: Out of Character Thread

I hope everything is alright on RabbitBall's end and will happily continue if things pick up again as I've enjoyed my time here posting with y'all;-).  That said sometimes things fall  thru for one reason or another and it's part and parcel of the nature of it.  And honestly, free entertainment and we made it past 1,000 posts so no complaints.

That said, if you're looking for a game, I play in a modified Star Frontiers game that has two very solid players (and whatever you consider me;-) that posts daily.  Right now it has two interesting orphan characters (and space to add more) if anybody is interested.  The linkee here (Star Frontiers: On the Fringe) --

link to another game

Star Frontiers rules aren't complicated (and still a child of early 80's game design) so easy to pick up.  Postage by the gm is generally daily and has been running since mid-July.  As far as what the campaign is about, if you're familiar with the original SF boxed set, we're doing a heavily reimagined/reworked adventure based off the intro adventure.

For those not familiar, the passenger ship the PCs start on is hijacked by pirates and the PCs escape via life pods and are marooned on a mysterious planet (Volturnus).  The survival phase is pretty much over and we're just starting the next act of working with the natives and tracking down the pirate base (to possible escape).  Overall though the game looks to be shaping up very much like a big sandbox.
