Barrowmaze is an adventure for the Labyrinth Lord fantasy role playing game. It is based on the scenario of the same name authored and published by Greg Gillespie. The primary focus of the game is an ongoing “dungeon crawl”, the exploration of an ancient complex of tombs hidden beneath a vast, forbidding moor. Courageous adventurers undertake such a perilous expedition in the hopes of discovering treasure and wealth, as well as uncovering the secret knowledge of a lost era.

Barrowmaze is a so-called “megadungeon”, a tunnel complex that is truly massive in size. Exploring it fully within a play by post format could literally require years. There are larger quests that can be discovered within its dank corridors and dedicated adventurers may discover that there is a true “endgame” to the vast tomb. But along the way, there are numerous dangers to conquer, brave deeds to be done, and rewards to reap.

While I have been blessed to see several scenarios through to their conclusion here on RPoL, I can’t predict just how far a group might get with regard to completely conquering Barrowmaze. Naturally, should such a feat be accomplished, I would be exceptionally proud. However, my focus in this undertaking is the journey itself; the numerous memorable moments that can be had as brave souls seek glory and wealth in the dangerous underground. Above all, my aim is to share in a fun, traditional old school fantasy adventure. Should we collectively reach the dungeon’s true ending, so much the better.
