The going was rough, dry and dusty, but Clouded Ivy pushed on as if her life depended on it.  It wasn't the best terrain, though, and it seemed like dust had settled over everything, kicking up thirsty clouds of it as they went.

"This is pretty bad," Yu-Jin said. "I can see why no one wanted to go through this."

"Eh, it's not that--" said Garla, but then she broke into a coughing fit.  Physical power was no match for dust, it appeared.

Perception

...there was indeed some kind of pit or crater ahead.  Flickering blue lights appeared now and then around it.

"That does look interesting," Yu-Jin said as she continued moving closer.

Perception and Investigation again

The lights reminded her of something-- electrical wires, sparking!

"The sparkling is strange," Yu-Jin said.

"Any idea what it is?" Garla asked.

"It's likely a circuit of some kind," Yu-Jin said. "Maybe for defenses or something similar."

"What the hey are you talking about?" Garla asked.  "What do you mean, a 'circuit'?  Nobody's riding anything around that..."

"Never mind, just be careful of the sparks," Yu-Jin said.

"But we can move in closer?" Ivy asked, confirming.

"Yes," Yu-Jin said, going first.

The sparks around the crater were dangerous, but stationary-- they could be avoided, and Yu-Jin could see the thick power wires that had apparently been severed by the impact of the meteor.  Inside the crater, the meteor was visible, as was a tunnel of some kind it had apparently cut through.

"Wow, a meteor! I haven't seen one up close before," Yu-Jin said.

"What's a 'meteor'?" Garla asked.

"A rock that came from the sky," Yu-Jin said.

"Dropped by a dragon, or thrown by a giant?" Ivy asked, looking down the hole.

"A very, very, very large dragon..." she added, looking at the size of the hole.

"Let's head in," Yu-Jin said, putting up her defensive field before heading in.

The side-tunnel beckoned... but there was also the meteor itself, if desired.

Yu-Jin examined the meteor. If it had iron or some other weird metal it good be worth a lot.

It was... shockingly cold to the touch, actually.  Prolonged contact would be painful, even damaging, until it warmed up.  That made examination quite difficult.  Still, it might be valuable, if they could get it up out of the crater-- it looked like it might weigh a few hundred pounds.

"Damn," Yu-Jin said. "This is weird. We'll have to leave it for now."

"I think I could get it out, once it warms up," said Garla.

"Yes, but the tunnel!" Ivy pointed out.  "That's why we're here!"

"Hey, it'll be a nice bonus," Yu-Jin said. "But let's go."

They entered the tunnels...

Perception

...it was damaged and ruined, but this corridor looked very much like it belonged in some modern Earth, high-tech facility.  Certainly not in the world that Yu-Jin had found herself in.

"Hmm. Strange," Yu-Jin said taking it in. "Let's be careful."

"As careful as I always am!" said Garla, sauntering ahead.

"...So we're doomed, then," sighed Clouded Ivy.

Yu-Jin stayed on edge as they went.

Up ahead, strange flickering lights cast odd shadows...

Yu-Jin got ready to cast a spell.

...were those display screens?  Computers?  The flickering lights appeared to be instruments of some kind...

"Hmm. Curious," Yu-Jin said.

"...what is this place?" Ivy asked.  "This stuff is weird."

"Should I break it?" Garla asked.  "I mean, it doesn't look hard..."

"Don't bother," Yu-Jin said. "It won't do anything."

"How do you know?" Ivy asked.  "Have you seen anything like this before?"

"I have, yes," Yu-Jin said. "These things are harmless and also unimportant."

"...if you say so," said Ivy.  "Nothing to learn from them, then?  It looks like the tunnel branches ahead.'

"I think we should take the left path," Yu-Jin said.

There being no objections, they went left.

Ahead, there were more ominous flashing red lights...

"It seems ominous," Yu-Jin said.

As they approached, the lights revealed themselves to be attached to some kind of... well, robot drones on treads, actually, with obvious gun mounts that moved in the party's direction.

"Oh no, enemies," Yu-Jin said as she tried to flatten herself against a wall.

The robots appeared to be advancing, but slowly.  Cover was minimal... but perhaps Yu-Jin had a plan?

Yu-Jin summoned the Goblin Repairman in opposite side of the room which throw it's wrench at them.

The wrench clanked and missed-- and the robots returned fire!  Luckily, they missed as well.

Yu-Jin kept the goblin there and it throw another wrench!

The robot appeared to be particularly vulnerable to the wrench, and fell apart at once!  Garla was among them as well, crushing and smashing.

"Weird that there would be robots...," Yu-Jin said.

"You know what those things are?" said Garla.  "I thought it was people in armor, or maybe enchanted statues, but they're all full of wires and pumps and things..."

"They're like a mechanical golem," Yu-Jin said.

"Clock-works, but strange," said Ivy, examining them.  "...so much wire!  We should take as much of the guts of these things as we can manage; wire's valuable."

"We should after we finish exploring," Yu-Jin said.

"True enough," said Ivy.  "There's more to find here, surely."

There was a door ahead, closed.  It appeared to have some kind of keypad next to the door.

Yu-Jin poked at the keypad. Was it still active?

It lit up; clearly, it was.

"This is going to be difficult to get through," Yu-Jin said.

"Well, what is it?" Ivy asked.  "I might be able to help.  Or Garla might be able to just knock it in."

"The doors are sealed and we wouldn't be able to open it without the passcode," Yu-Jin said. "It'll probably take a while to brute force it."

"I'm not quite sure what you mean by that," said Ivy.  "But is there anything you can do to search for clues or indications of what it might have been?"

Yu-Jin decided to check out the keypad to see if any numbers were worn from use.

Yes!  She could narrow it down to a handful of possibilities, since exactly four numbers were worn.

Yu-Jin began to enter the various options.

Luckily, it didn't take enough tries for her to be locked out of the system before the door opened.

"...So how did you know how to do that?" Garla asked.

"Magic," Yu-Jin said.

"I feel like that explanation lacks something," said Ivy.

"Hey!" Garla called-- she'd gone ahead while Ivy was talking.  "There's a really big box here!"

Yu-Jin headed inside.

"Box" wasn't really the word from it-- it was built into the floor, almost like some kind of altar... but it looked more like a coffin.  The size was right, at least...

But then, there were the controls.  And the readouts.  Yu-Jin couldn't read the language, but the changing numbers and readouts looked distinctly like they were monitoring something.

"I can't read the language, but it appears they're studying whatever's in there," Yu-Jin said.

"But what are they studying?" Ivy asked. "We have to find out.  It's got to be important."

"Just be careful," Yu-Jin said.

Ivy reached for it, but paused.

"...you obviously know more than you're telling about this stuff," she said.  "What should I do?"

"I don't know, I've never seen anything like this," Yu-Jin said.

"Well, is it a container?" Ivy asked.  "Because the top looks like it comes right off."

"It is, I'm unsure of what's inside," Yu-Jin said.

"I mean, we're going to find out, right?" Garla said.  "We came all this way, jumped off a moving train, everything!  We can't back off now.  Besides, it was pretty heavily guarded.  Gotta be important."

"Just be careful," Yu-Jin said.

Garla hesitated.

"...so you know something about this stuff," she said.  "Can you figure out anything about how it opens up?"

Yu-jin examined the equipment again. Could she make anything out> What language was it done it?

It wasn't quite a language she knew... exactly... but some symbols were actually familiar-- the kind of thing you'd use for symbols meant to transcend language.

And it appeared that there was a button to push that would reveal a lever to pull?

Yu-Jin did so.

The button was easy... the lever was heavy and strong and resisted her for a moment, but then the entire lid of the strange... thing... slid off, and cold, misty vapors emerged.

Yu-Jim went to investigate.

...there was a young woman lying in the box, apparently asleep.

Her eyelids fluttered.

"This is unexpected," Yu-Jin said.

She tried to sit up but moaned, rubbing her head.

"Are you okay?" Yu-Jin asked.

"Wh... what's going on?  Why is it dark?" she asked.  "Is it safe yet?"

"The power is down and likely has been for a very long time," Yu-Jin said. "You'll really need to explain things."

"What do you mean, the power's down?" the girl asked.  "What happened?  The power can't run out... we'd all be frozen, if it somehow did."

"You can have a look around," Yu-Jin said. "There's barely anything left."

She did.

"...the power's not all gone," she said.  "I can see that.  But it looks like it's all on backup now.  What's going on?  I'm not supposed to wake up until it's safe out again, but this doesn't look safe..."

"That is probably on us, but we couldn't read the language everything is in," Yu-Jin said.
