Policies

- The Policy on Policies:

These might be written so as to feel accusatory; please do not consider these slights on your personal character. I try to assume the best of people, and think this has immense potential as a campaign. "Assume the best of people and try to talk things through" should always be my first goal, and I don't expect to need to need to fall back to secondary goals.

- Playing:

Owing to the present state of lockdown and my own personal need to either relentless push forwards on anything I'm interested in, or forget about it completely, this game is going to (most likely) need to commence under lockdown conditions.

Sessions will thus (at least initially) be run via a Discord chat.

I'm prepared to split the PCs into two groups in any given week and use two evenings if need for scheduling purposes and will endeavour to be as flexible as plausible.

- A Beast Ye Are, Lest A Beast Ye Become:

Vampire can be enjoyable as an excuse to be an utter ruthless monster. That's not the goal here; characters should have aspirations and goals beyond "power" and "survival"; it's the job of the ST to make it challenging to achieve your goals, so if all you want is to survive and become stronger...

- Historical Accuracy:

History is used here to add a feel of authenticity and pose novel challenges; it is neither an excuse to espouse or enforce offensive opinions, nor a rhetorical bludgeon to beat the ST with. Per the policy on policies, I do not expect this to be an issue, but it came up in the initial discussion over the campaign idea, so.

In specific, this means that the ST is going to do their best to get timelines, historical figures and historic geography correct, but mistakes are going to inevitably creep in. It also means that while your characters are free to act in a variety of awful, murderous and depraved ways (with exceptions, see later), behaviour that upsets other people on an OOC level is right out.

- Fictional Historical Accuracy:

"Mistakes are inevitably going to creep in" applies double for World of Darkness history; the ST acknowledges other people are likely to have a greater knowledge of World of Darkness canon and suggests that players confirm their assumptions of canon before basing plans on them. In particular, the ST reserves the right to have any given non-vampire "splat" not exist, function wildly differently from in canon, or be played reasonably close to "accurate" with only small differences.

Conversely, I'll do my best to make clear any oddities of the setting deriving from the time period; I don't expect players to be experts in the early colonial era at least as much as I hope they will forgive any gaps in my own expertise.
