Rules, Character Creation, and RTJ.

Rules and Expectations:

1: Have fun!  If something is impeding your ability to have fun, let me know in a PM and hopefully we can work it out.

2: I'm looking for a relatively fast paced game, so only apply if you can commit to a rate of about 4 posts per week.  If something comes up and you won't be able to post for a while, let me know.

3: Pick a color to represent your character's speech, and use it when they talk.  OOC comments should be in orange.

4: When taking actions with mechanical effects (I.E. spellcasting, skill use,) clearly state your actions, rolls, intended results, etc in orange below your main post.  This is especially important during combat

Example:
"Knife to meet you!" Alice yelled, hurling a dagger at the nearest cultist and diving behind the altar for cover.

FREE: Quickdraw dagger
STANDARD: Throw dagger at the nearest cultist (14 to hit, 4 damage if successful)
MOVE: Move behind altar, which provides cover against the cultists' ranged attacks.



5: To keep things flowing smoothly in PbP, Initiative will be handled in groups.  All enemies and NPCs will share the same intiative, and all players who act before the next enemy turn can post in whatever order they want.  Player turns will be resolved in the order they are posted, unless you specify otherwise in your post.

Example: Alice, Bob and Carol are fighting a pack of ghouls.  Their rolls are 5, 11, and 19 respectively, while the ghouls initiative is 8.  Bob and Carol each take a turn in whatever order they want, then the ghouls take a turn, then Alice, Bob and Carol take their turns in any order.

6: To speed things along, I will roll most passive checks for skills like Perception, Appraise, Sense Motive, Knowledge, Linguistics, Profession, and Spellcraft.  In situations where you can take 10, I will both take ten AND roll on your behalf, and give you the better result.  You may also actively roll, either to retry certain checks (like searching a room) or to make a check I might have overlooked.  If I've already made a non-repeatable skill check on your behalf, you can only re-roll if you're using a limited-use ability to affect the roll, such as a bard using Well-Versed to take 20 on a knowledge check.

7: During combat rounds, players have 72 hours to post after the GM does.  After that point, the character will be on "autopilot" for the round, usually consisting of taking the total defense action or attacking an appropriate target.

Character Creation:

Level 4:
20 pt buy (plus stat increase from level 4)
No restrictions on race, class, or alignment (but see below)
Starting wealth of 6000 GP
Max HP at first level, then half+1 for future levels.  So for a d8 hit die, you would get 5 hp before any bonuses.
Two traits, no drawbacks.
Clerics may choose what type of energy they channel at creation, regardless of alignment.
The "Create Pit" family of spells is not allowed.  I reserve the right to ban other content as needed.
All Paizo content allowed.  3rd party content by GM permission only.

We will be using hero points and background skills.  You start the game with two hero points.

It's free, and I recommend giving it a look. However, a lot of it is focused on the first book of the adventure, which we won't be playing.  In particular we won't be using the listed campaign traits, and characters specialized in dealing with undead will find those skills less useful than they would be in book one (though there is still a fair share of undead in this part of the adventure, as well.)

While there are no hard restrictions on character creation, this is a campaign centered around seeking out and defeating terrible evils.  A character with no interest in this sort of work, or one incapable of working in a group, would not be a good fit for this game.

Rules, Character Creation, and RTJ.

I will be judging applications primarily on two criteria:  Does your character have an interesting story to tell?  And can you tell that story well, as a player?

While I'm not demanding any specific length for your RTJ, it should be long enough to convince me you've got both of the things I'm looking for.  Which means that if you're giving me one-sentence answers, they had better be REALLY good sentences.

Biography: Tell me about your character's past.  Suggested topics include their family, what brings them to Lepidstadt, and how they caught Judge Daramid's attention as a potential investigator.

Connections: Give me two people that your character knows, one ally and one enemy.

Secrets: Give me one secret that your character is keeping from the world, and one secret that they aren't aware of.
