You arrive outside the silver mine Maria had been talking about. There was a small, abandoned town a short walk from the mine's entrance. A soft wind was blowing, but other than that it was quiet.

"Should we go to the town first, to ask around?" Yasmin said.  "We might learn something important..."

"Might as well," Oscar said.

The village was rather bare, it seems no one was in a rush to leave, as there was only the rare item in the houses and nothing of real value. In the old store, you did find a couple of green-skinned humanoids sleeping under heavy blankets behind the counter.

"...is anyone awake here?" asked Yasmin, but not loudly.  She didn't want to disturb them if they were nocturnal.

The figures shot up, letting you see they were goblins. One of them had a rusty dagger they were brandishing.

"Stay back!"

"I am," said Yasmin.  "Are you raiding this place, or do you live here?"

"we-we live here," the goblin said.

"Well, then!" said Yasmin.  "There's no need to worry.  We're asking about the silver mine.  Do you know if anyone is working it now?"

"No, but the raiders are using it as a base," the goblin said.

"Ah," said Yasmin.  "We've been hired to clear them out.  Can you tell us anything about them?"

"They're mostly humans or close to that. Sorry, you guys and elves and the half ones all kinda look alike to me," the goblin said. "I also saw a couple a ogres too."

"Well and good," said Yasmin.  "Ogres are dangerous, but can be defeated.  Did any use magic?"

"Not that I ever saw," the goblin said.

"Good to know," said Yasmin.  "Do any of us need anything before we start?"

The group responds in the negative. Everyone was ready.

"On to the mines, then!" said Yasmin, and off they went.

The entrance to the cave had a great many crates pilled up there. You can see also sacks of potatoes and other cheap foodstuffs.

"Food for the workers, I suppose," said Yasmin.  "Well, let's see what's happening inside..."

"Hey! I hear someone out there!" a deep and booming voice shouted. "Is that you goblins trying to steal our food again?"

"No, indeed!" said Yasmin.  "Who are you, and what are you doing in this mine?"

"Looks like we got intruders, brothers," another voice said as a small group of ogres appeared. "Enough for all of us to have fun beating to death."
