Welcome to Atlas Blue - Faqu (Bel Miron)

The Church of Highland's Universal Light was not an easy place to flee.  In Bel's homeland, 'Zamgree', it was much more influential.  Out here, he knew it only was referred to as the 'Church of the Universal Library', or the 'Church of High's Light', or a number of other names.  It wasn't seen in every major town.  They barely had any presence beyond the Belka!

Or so he had heard.

But what was life outside the wall-surrounded-compounds of the church?

The opportunity had come when a large 'Journey Ship' was sent to Tronsket.  They were meant to be used to help carry large loads and support groups of people in exploration.  Tronsket must have more places for them to resupply, and from the threadbare conditions of the ship... a large enough compound for them to fill up.

They had wanted a small group to come out, and he was one of them.

But that had also been the big chance.  Fleeing, stealing away on a ship headed south... it became a journey of finding Bel's way from anyone willing to offer a free ride.  The last leg of the journey brought Bel to Faqu had been the most harrowing, a small island running boat that was mainly a fishing boat.  It was cold out, and the tiny craft seemed like it would be swept away several times... but in the end, Bel had found... Faqu.

Faqu sits in the mouth between the sister archipelagos, Aifla and Belka, not even good enough to be a front tooth… but it's island is a decent-sized one near the front of the maw.  It's not the best stop for any… but Faqu sees plenty of ships that pass it by.

Faqu's harbor is large for a town of its size - a long wharf spreads out with piers extending off of it like a wide smile of ungainly, misshapen teeth.  The low buildings that lie beyond it are simple, sturdy little things of wood and stone.  Faqu's island is dotted with irregular stone hills, lumpy and ugly, but they provide shelter for the wooden buildings clustered near the docks.  Some sort of fluttering is visible at the edges, unclear at this distance…

Smoke rises up out of a handful of stacks, and shrubs cling to the tops and sides of hills.  At the far left (west) side of the wharf, one large windmill turns in the air.  At its side, a small strip of land and trees that looks like an orchard.

Beyond the city, a more thick forest creeps up from beyond the hills.

Surprisingly, an edge of frost clings to the trees.  The air is a little chill, even for the open water.  This time of year, the docks were empty of almost anything.

That was Faqu.

And Bel arrived two days prior, finding a place to stay out of the generosity of an old market lady and a mildly-curious populace.

But that was short-lived.  When the market was waking up, a ship arrived in the harbor.  Today had brought the maroon sails of a Church ship, out here.

Bel could see it slowly settle in the harbour... but what was it here for?  Was Bel so important a ship would come out here... for him?
