In order to play a proper game of
The Star Wars, we must first initialize our playing area.
In my role as Referee, I’m going to start us out with a handful of fun, highly interactive planets both to use as examples, and to establish our narrative backdrop. Don’t worry if you don’t like these planets at first; you’ll always have the opportunity to destroy them later. Since we’re going to start our game at the height of
The Clone Wars, let’s start with our factional capitols…
Coruscant (adj.
Coruscanti)
- Faction: Republic (capitol)
- Biome: Fully urbanized
- Population: 45% human; fully cosmopolitan.
- Facts: Coruscant is the single most inhabited planet in the Galaxy, with an official population in the trillions. Several of Coruscant’s moons boast of higher populations than some of the less populated Senate seats.
- Facts: The city-planet is built in varying amount of layers that run many levels down to long-forgotten cities that came before until finally the planet crust is reached. Everything on the planet is artificial. The air people breathe has been recycled mechanically to remove the endless toxic build-up. Most food available to the masses is factory-made for few can afford offworld import. And yet all people in the wider galaxy tend to see of Coruscant is what happens on the top layer where the high and mighty reside. The Galaxy is blissfully unaware that the galactic government seat is literally built over the trillion heads of the poor masses who often never see sunlight in their entire lives.
- Facts: It should be obvious: Coruscant doesn't produce enough food to feed its inhabitants. However, until recently it's been able to import enough food to maintain the status quo, but the Republic is concerned that they may soon start running a net loss of food. Already rumblings from the lowest levels have mentioned hunger and starvation.
Corellia (adj.
Corellian)
- Faction: Separatist (capitol)
- Biome: Heavily industrialized; mountainous
- Population: 70% human; cosmopolitan.
- Facts: Before the Clone Wars began, the Corellian factories and shipyards were the backbone of the Republic’s manufacturing base.
- Fact: A new designer drug Red Hope has become popular in some of the capital planet's social circles. Many say it's not so different from others before it, and merely the latest fad for the idle rich. And yet there are these wild rumors; that it induces temporary force sensitivity in some. Or certain physical mutation. Addiction resilient to conventional forms of treatment.
Tatooine (adj.
Tatooinian)
- Faction: Neutral (undisputed)
- Biome: Wasteland/junkyard
- Population: Mostly Jawas, small human and “other” minorities
- Facts: Tatooine is the junkyard of the galaxy, where everything broken winds up before being recycled and sold back to people who can’t afford new goods.
- Fact: So much of the Jawa's life revolves around the landcrawlers they purchased from Czerka ages ago, that it has grown to define how they understand family and lineage. Everyone in a given crawler is part of one family, regardless of actual parentage.
- Fact: An oracle/seer like figure has risen to some prominence amongst the Tusken raiders. Regarded for things that speak of force sensitivity, although that isn't known for fact. Several tribes have now organized around this figure.
Mandalore (adj.
Mandalorian)
- Faction: Mandalorians (capitol)
- Biome: Pastoral
- Population: Almost all Mandalorian humans, small minority of non-human Mandalorians
- Facts: The nearly-mythical Mandalorian throneworld. Almost every Mandalorian swears they’ll visit someday… almost no Mandalorian ever does.
- Fact: Outrage has built among the populace as a faction of pacifists has refused the call of the Mandalore to join him in war and was subsequently massacred. Some question if turning on fellow Mandalorians, however misguided, can be part of The Way.
Nar Shaddaa (adj.
shadian)
- Faction: Hutts
- Biome: Fully urbanized.
- Population: Small Hutt ruling minority; fully cosmopolitan.
- Facts: Nar Shaddaa is known as “the Smuggler’s Moon” because of its Huttese government’s disdain for Republic contraband and property laws. Nar Shaddaa was original built as a diplomatic outpost where non-Hutts could meet with the Hutts without “fouling” Nal Hutta’s atmosphere.
- Fact: Even though Nar Shaddaa is viewed by many to be the height of criminality and corruption, and the heart of the Huttese empire, the Separatists have had a clandestine cell working from within, trying to sway the Hutts to their side.
- Fact: Non-Hutts are afforded few rights but a bribery system allows other species to be considered a member of a Hutt family, sometimes temporarily. While incredibly are, legitimate uses of this law are considered a matter of family honor.
Phaerom
- Faction: Techno-guild
- Biome: Vacuum
- Population: 99% droid; 1% other.
- Fact: The biological inhabitants of Phaerom live under a metropolis-sized geodesic transparent plasteel dome on the equator where the administrative headquarters of the Techno-guild reside.
- Fact: The largest export of Phaerom is refined silicquam, a component in nav-computers.
- Fact:The planet is hollow, honeycombed with mining tunnels, and a thin atmosphere exists within those tunnels at 2 miles deep beneath the surface.
- Fact: Jedi have recently taken an interest in Phaerom, believing that some of the residual materials here could be used to manufacture synthesized lightsaber crystals. (Possibly meaning via an alternative method that produces non-red crystals.)
- Fact: Biological visitors are advised to supply for their own nutritional and breathing needs, as the costs for food, water, and air to visitors can be prohibitive.
Chyrsis
- Faction: Mandalorian
- Biome: Aquatic
- Population: Mostly human Mandalorian with a sizable minority of near-human and non-human mandalorian populations.
- Fact: The planet's axis is turned directly towards the star it orbits, creating half of the planet that is constant "day" and the other that is constant "night". This creates a world of near constant hurricanes, tornados, and other severe weather phenomenon.
- Fact: The Mandalorian tribe that calls this place home lives along the equator, the only place that could be close to habitable for sentient life. They believe the constant need to adapt and migrate to overcome this environment makes them greater Mandalorians, though it does hamper their communications with the rest of the galaxy, and their technological development.
- Fact: The environment is ideal for bacta, though nobody, including the Mandalorians, have made an attempt at it.
- Fact: Mother Seed has extended an offer to the planet to "fix" the orbit and ecology. This has been sternly rebuffed by the inhabitants
Arkania
- Faction: Republic
- Biome: Urbanized, with arctic conditions; cities constructed over large stretches of frozen waste
- Population:65% Arkanian; 22% Arkanian Offshoot; 13% other
- Fact: Home to massive diamond stores, Arkania opened these hidden vaults to mining industries associated with the Republic.
- Fact: The rich gem mines on their planet led to its great development, and the construction of trade cities.
- Fact: By the time of the Great Sith War, the world was inhabited by not only pure-blood Arkanians, but genetically-engineered offshoots. The pure-blood Arkanians held great contempt for the offshoots, and sent them into ghettos.
- Fact: Recently, large spice deposits were found near an old, abandoned mine. Some say that shadowy figures can be seen entering and leaving each night, and machinery can be heard working underground, if you listen carefully enough.
- Fact: Arkania has been dealing with civil unrest lately. The offshoot Arkanians forced into ghettos have seemingly banded together with groups of poor pure-bloods and are calling for societal reforms. Whether there's truth that this is all a Separatist ploy or not remains to be seen as the rumor could easily have been started by the planetary government to justify their swift and brutal response.
- Fact: Arkanian-offshoots that have managed to leave Arkania for the greater galaxy have brought horrific tales of forced experimentation by the dominant Arkanians.
Sarna:
- Faction: Republic
- Biome: Urban/Jungle
- Population: 75% Human, 25% Assorted Other
- Fact: One of the greatest centers of knowledge open to the general public, The great Sarniot Library covers approximately 1% of the planets surface
- Fact: Once, Sarna was covered in desert. Some over-zealous terraformers (the radical Ithorian group Mother Seed), however, accidentally converted much of the planet onto uninhabitable jungle, with rumours of beasts larger than any other roaming within...
Object Nihilus-XIII (adj.
N/A)
- Faction: None
- Biome: Breathable atmosphere but considered uninhabitable.
- Population: Unpopulated according to probes.
- Facts: Object Nihilus-XIII is a planet-sized stellar object with an atmosphere theoretically capable of sustaining life. However, the object itself is believed to be sterile apart from base spores and proto-life. The interest in the object comes from its proximity to the supermassive black hole Nihilus. On the surface most of the sky would be filled by the black hole and the object is believed to contain an absurd amount of heavy materials due to the intense gravimetric forces working on the planet due to gravimetric distortions sent out from the black hole. However, any effort to mine said materials has never been truly attempted due to the unstable nature of the object, its high gravity of 2.4g and an extreme time dilation effect. For one to experience a galactic standard day on Nihilus-XIII would mean for 837.39 standard days to pass on Coruscant. For this reason no volunteers could be found even among capable races to mine the object. Droids seem unable to survive the conditions long enough either, and attempting hyperspace jumps anywhere near the black hole including at Nihilus-XIII is considered suicidal.
Thyferra (adj.
Thyferran)
- Faction: Neutral
- Biome: Temperate/Jungle
- Population: 90% Vratix, 10% human
- Facts: Thyferra is where bacta was first developed by the native Vratix, and is still the planet where the plant-based components are grown the easiest and with the highest quality. It is ruled by two competing cartels, who seem to care for nothing but making the most profit possible.
- Fact: Crimson Dawn provides espionage assistance to both cartels on Thyferra against each other, keeping them busy with their rivalry, while operating a lucrative smuggling operation on the same planet to export unprocessed bactalictum, a drug with powerful psychotropic qualities.
Bespin
- Faction: Unaligned
- Biome: Gas Giant
- Population: Ugnaught and Human majority, assorted other races in varying minor degrees
- Facts: Bespin is an immense gas giant located in the vicinity of the Anoat sector, a desolate sector of the galaxy. The planet is known almost entirely for its supply of valuable Tibanna gas that is harvested and refined in several mining complexes, including Cloud City, an opulent metropolis suspended in the planet's huge billowing clouds, and the Ugnaught city of Ugnorgrad. Given Tibanna gas' military uses, both Separatist and Republic diplomats have been dispatched in an attempt to secure great quantities of the valuable resource in an effort to gain a leg up on the other.
Zeltros
- Faction: Republic
- Biome: Variable
- Population: 5.3 billion. 91% Zeltron, 9% other.
- Facts: Famed throughout the galaxy for the worldwide, constant festival and celebratory atmosphere, Zeltros was never conquered by the Empire as the pheromones of the native Zeltrons, as well as the constant party proved too strong to overcome. Zeltrons are widely regarded as one the most beautiful races in the galaxy.
- Fact: The Ravagers hold a loose cordon of comms-jamming probes surrounding Zeltran space, triggered by failed hyperspace jumps and subspace distress beacons; they use these probes to identify likely targets for boarding actions and pillaging.
Naboo:
- Faction: Separatist (occupation)
- Biome: Population centered on a large temperate island chain. Equatorial swamps are sparsely inhabited but of historical interest.
- Population: Settled 6000 years ago by a primarily human population. Ruins of a sentient amphibian population exist but appear to have died out thousands of years before discovery by the rest of the galaxy.
- Facts: Naboo was blockaded in a tax dispute early in the war. The Republic fleet tried to break the blockade years ago, with the resulting space battle causing heavy losses to both sides and creating a ring of spacecraft debris that makes navigation to the planet dangerous. The Royal family lives in exile on Coruscant.
Procedure Below is a list of every approved player. Each player will propose one (1) planet from various
Star Wars media, complete with Faction, Biome, Population, and a couple (1-3) of important facts about the planet. Each player will then contribute one (1) fact each about two (2) of the planets that have already been named; these facts do not need to be canonical or derived from any previous source, just
interesting and
gameable. Your delightful GM will then compile the stated facts and update the player list until every player has gone.
We will then enjoy a
brief round-table discussion about these planets… square away any details, make minor adjustments, and then we’ll have completed this phase.
