COMMENCE

Hi there. Call me Scruffy.

40ish late Gen-Xer, father of sons, looking forward to being suspended out the waist-gun port shooting turbo-lasers to down the pursuit.

Pursuit TIEs or X-Wings, you ask? … Yes.

Don’t mention nerfs.

COMMENCE

I am your illustrious (and possibly squamous) GM, Shroompunk-- or Victor, if you think an air of familiarity can save you-- and this is only my second hubristically ambitious game on RPOL.

If you're wondering why I've gathered you all here today... something has gone catatstrophically wrong with my application process.

I am always available for questions or feedback... if you think the worldbuilding process needs clarified, you can always post here in the permanent OOC thread or just PM me.

Call me womp rat, I'm almost 40 with a young son and a baby daughter.

Right now I'm back to modding Morrowind for some strange reason... (Nostalgia probably)

Looking forward playing with you all, May the force live long and prosper.

COMMENCE

Hey folks --  "ShootingStar" is my ill-thought rpol handle.    I wouldn't want to have to type it out, either.   'Morgan' is part of a pen name, and about as personal as I'll likely get in this forum.

I was born in the vanguard of Millennials, but tend to resonate and identify more with Gen-X.   I'm raising a teenager; one who makes sure I don't forget I'm old, my opinions irrelevant, my tastes hopelessly retro!   (doing her duty as a teen, in other words)

I like to lead with my idealism, but my cynicism is stealthy, and often not far behind. You can hate me for one, the other, or both!

Let me confess:  I've got a love/hate relationship with Star Wars.  Some of it is so bad, I'm like 'Wow, that could've been a great story, if only -- '

I'd agree the GM is ambitious.  And am looking forward to seeing whether the force will be with us.

Ello all. You can call me Wynter or Wynternight. I’m a paediatric trauma surgeon and A&E consultant in Edinburgh, Scotland. I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was a wee lass and my father took me to see it in the cinema. Looking forward to gaming goodness with everyone.

COMMENCE

Howdy all!

I am He of the Elbow Patches.  Or rather that's what my students (affectionately?) call me at any rate given my (surprising) tendency to rock sweaters with elbow patches.  Buggers actually get mad if I'm not wearing them.  I obviously teach the tiny humans.  Well, tiny and not so tiny humans at any rate.  Do everything from history of all sorts, civics and government, to psychology and even economics.

Have a military background in aviation which I attribute to playing too much XvT as a kid.  So yeah, love me some flyboys and girls.  BEYOND excited for the Rogue Squadron movie.

@Shooting, that's almost every SW fan ever, so I feel ya mate.

@Wynter, got a bunch of family in medicine, including the wife, and I've heard all the stories.  Sure you've got some good ones yourself!  Used to teach a bit of combat triage back in my military days actually.  Well, teaching might be a bit of a stretch, so let's go with, I tried to keep the Jarheads from eating the Quickclot?

Oh, the stories I could tell. My father was a Royal Marine and had more than a few friends amongst the USMC. I grew up loving Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. :D

I mostly like the spaceship parts of Star Wars (even if they mostly don't act like they're in space) and seeing a common theme here.

Haha Wynter, we'll have to swap sometime!  Half the fun of the profession and all that.  And oh goodness, you willingly associated with Marines?  Pshaw!  Army brat who wanted nothing to do with it and joined up with the nerds over here.  So you know, Air Force.

And howdy Jill!  Look, there are space wizards, so we can forgive the non-Newtonian physics cause we've got the Expanse for that!

Seriously though, hooray another person who likes the flying pew pew!

COMMENCE

In reply to He of the Elbow Patches (msg # 12):

Given the discussion it seems prudent to provide a REAL introduction, and not a movie quotation.

Intel Specialist with the Navy Reserves for the past 10 years, just came off a year of active orders and am between jobs as chaos in the world of contracting comes to a close.

pursuing a degree in history, and that's probably the one gripe I have with SW and it's attempts to chart it's ancient past. The change between the movies and four thousand years prior to that is purely aesthetic. The technology, the culture, the languages, etc, remain constant. I understand why that is; so that it still has all the appropriate looks and feels of the franchise, so this is really just a complaint from a point of love.

I was introduced to Star Wars by my father (who himself was a Navy man), who took my brother and I to see the Special Edition release of all three movies, and I was hooked from the start.

My daughter and princess Angelica is home sick from daycare with a fever, so I was hoping to take an opportunity to have a mini SW marathon today, but she had other plans....

Space is probably just real weird in a galaxy far-far away, and this is definitely not a sci-fi setting what with the wizards and dragons.

Speaking of which, I do find that the story revolves mostly around said wizards when they're involved, so I'm hoping to be in a party that is either 0% or 80+% wizards.

COMMENCE

The Honor Harrington series gives a good look at what space combat would really look like.

"12 hours until we're in range of torpedoes, ma'am."

"Very good. Shall we have a cuppa until then?"

A day of waiting to get into range and then a few minutes of terror, death, more terror and more death.

<---plans on being a space wizard.

My go-to for space combat for a long time was the Vatta's War series by Elizabeth Moon.  The Expanse is good for that too.

Not normally super into space combat, but I did really like the excerpt from Mass Effect series, that points to just how deadly any form of combat in space is. Somewhere, at sometime, you are ruining someone else's day.

I haven't read any of her sci fi. I'm a huge fan of the Paksenarrion books and universe and hope more are forthcoming.

Re: COMMENCE

The Vatta's war series was 2004-2008 and she recently wrote a two-part sequel series so it seems reasonable that she might follow up on her other worlds after a break.

I mean, you're not totally wrong?  But hey, pulling the grunts' asses out of the fire all the time is hard work!

Seriously though, in my prior life, I was helping plan/execute the air war over there, it was... taxing to say the least.

Re: COMMENCE

Hello all! Just a 32 year old nerd with my wife of 7 years and tiny human that just started preschool. Quality Control supervisor for a pharmaceutical and medical device packaging company. Star Wars has been a passion since I was young. Some people collected Beanie Babies while I collected the Micro Machines heads that folded out into the different worlds from the movies.

Some of the movies fall short while others succeed, but the common thread through them all is the level of detail and care put into the feel of them especially the spin-offs like the Mandolorian. I personally appreciated the birth to death story of the five clone squad in the Clone Wars animated series. It was intriguing to see how the life of a clone was and how different they all were. Something that is further shown in The Bad Batch. It also explains why the clones could shoot well but storm troopers can’t hit the broad side of a barn.

Re: COMMENCE

49-year-old, disabled, author (RPG's), novel in editing right now. Been a gamer for 41 odd years, some call me Tim, but I'm Silverlion in many (but not all places) on the internet. I'm a fan of a huge number of games, my life is only exciting in disappointments, but I endeavor onward thanks to assured stubbornness. No kids, no wife (but an ex one.) Just a big dog, and generally I'm known to be really good with canines /and/ kids for some reason. Ever hear someone say "My son/daughter usually doesn't like men?" I've heard some variation of that from surprised mothers my entire life--while having a child grab my hand, give me a hug, or otherwise just be fascinated.

Once I spent time at a laundromat entertaining some young woman's child while she dealt with her even smaller baby and did laundry, and she kept asking if the little girl was bothering me (I'd brought a book.) Of course not! I was just keeping the kiddo entertained by talking to them, making faces all the stuff many people do. When I left the woman thanked me for helping her out while she dealt with so much. Just who I am I guess.
