OC: The Water Cooler

This thread is for all out of character chatter.

--//--

So! I love the posts so far. And the fact that we're already splitting the party. But, it'll be fine, I'm sure! Nothing bad ever comes from splitting the party... :grimace:

Just wanted to let you all know that I've read the posts and am in the process of making replies to each action. I'm going to keep them all in the same thread, so we don't end up with hundreds of threads, but each one will be a separate post. I will post them all together, however, so some people aren't waiting while others have advancement in their thread.

So, I hope to have my posts ready by tomorrow evening!

Thanks! And nothing bad will surely come. Remember guy, we can all run (Lax-at-Hive speed is 20 ft, though :( )

And if something happens, then the rest of the party will know where is the problem.

By the way, not wanting to force any course of action, as I always think that a group of players should be more democratic. I just thought that it would be a great way to show our character's individual strengths.

In reply to Lax-at-Hive (msg # 3):

Just for the record, as a player I'm not opposed to your character throwing around orders.  That said, I also needed to establish my characters response to being given orders by someone not in a position of authority over him (the whole Lawful Evil thing). So in the future, should it be necessary to disobey an unsanctioned order his disobedience doesn't come as a surprise.

I think it's awesome you're telegraphing for possible future problems. As a DM, I have no problem with PvP conflicts, as long as they serve the story and no one's actual feelings are getting hurt. Inter-party conflict can be wonderful for story drama, as long as everyone's having fun.

All right. Posts are up! It would be helpful if you quoted the post having to do with your thread in your response. I think that'll help us all keep them straight. But, just the previous post. We don't need the whole thread in the quote.

Also, Lax.

We don't carry badges.  We have gone through a ritual upon entering the BRHD that provided us a magical mantle:

Character Creation thread:
BRHD Mantle (blessing that adds +2 to an Attribute chosen by the player, two bonus feats, and causes citizens of the Realm to recognize you as BRHD assets.

The moment the kobold saw you he knew you were from the BRHD.

I mean, Lax could have made himself a badge if it makes him feel any more important,  it would simply be overkill given they'd already know who you were.

I also have no problem with the Mantle having created some physical manifestation on Lax's body, if you want something to flash.

Wait...

Just flash the manifestation. If you flash anything else, it may bring the Realm's police down on your head.

Hey, all, a question came up in PM about using different Ability Scores in skill rolls. I want to let everyone know that I am in favor of doing so, when the fiction clearly suggests it's appropriate. I like the shorthand of every skill being tied to a specific Ability. That makes for easier rolling of skills. I say, "Give me a Climb roll," and you know you're adding your STR; there's no cause for discussion, arguing or slowing down the game.

But, sometimes, another Ability fits the fiction better. If you feel that's the case, shoot me a PM and I'll give you the 'official' yay or nay.

Also, this seems like a good time to bring up Synergy bonuses. I love them. I hope you're using the ones listed in the PHB. BUT! I am also a fan of asking for Synergy bonuses. If you're rolling a skill and have at least 5 ranks in a skill you feel would assist you, (again) shoot me a PM and I'll let you know if I think it is appropriate.

Are there guidelines as to what we are able to do as far as interactions with civilians who impede our investigations.

Is it a criminal offense to block us from chasing down a lead.

For example: the man at the gate of Billmore Lastcollar's estate.  If he prevents Kraken from making contact with the man, is Kraken within his rights and authorized to remove the obstacle (causing physical harm if necessary? arresting him for obstruction?)?

I don't think there are guidelines, as such. There's probably a "Don't make too many problems for us" directive from the leadership of the BRHD, but that's likely as far as it goes. And I certainly don't think you all are empowered to make arrests. You have no authority over the citizens of the Realm; your bailiwick deals with the monsters who threaten the Realm.

I imagine results speak for themselves. The higher ups will go to bat for you if you get results. If you end up causing problems just for fun, that's when the problems for you start happening.

The workers rushing over to help their fallen coworker are, indeed, the ones who'd gone to speak with Lax. Everyone is rushing over to see what's wrong with their buddy, though I'm sure everyone has a good idea what's wrong.

I had thought after the holidays I'd be back in full swing but I'm going to opt to leave the game (and RPoL altogether).

Things in RL have changed including my priorities and the time I have to place on them.

I appreciate the chance to be a part of this group for the short time that was and hope you all nothing but the best in life and the most fun out of your gaming.

Take care all!

Let's get Gronuk into the action! Does anyone object to Gronuk arriving at the scene, now? If we wait for an "opportune moment" I fear that could lead to weeks of sitting around waiting.

Gronuk may have been sent later by the group's handler, maybe they were in the infirmary, or something, and just got cleared for duty.
