Re: OOC

Okay, question regarding present situation in the story:

Is it really strange to shoot at Romulans now? They attacked us. They might be retreating, but they did start shooting at us without provocation. Is it strange to fight back? Especially as the we're using a stun setting on the phasers anyway (none of us declared using lethal damage)...

Re: OOC

It's hard to say in this situation. The adventure has a lot of combats like this, and for some reason, the Romulans are unwilling to negotiate under any circumstances.

I was thinking on the following things: you were the ones to beam down to their actual position, and you were the ones who startled them. While shooting is overreaction, it's more of a suppresive fire rather a normal firefight. That's why the others asked if the shooting order still stands, since while it's not against any convention to attack fleeing enemies (it's considered manouvering, not surrendering), I think Klingons would think of it as dishonorable, and Federation as either immoral, or unnecessarily harsh (mostly DS9, Sisko did not even order to shoot the Jem'Hadar until it was inevitable to fight with them). Also, since the Romulans have a highly militaristic worldview, high chance they would be shooting at the opposite case! In any way, it could be a good unforeseen dilemma, to decide if it's OK shoot fleeing enemies in the back.

Re: OOC

This is non lethal fire, so I think that getting some stun enemies for interrogation is not really dishonourable, but it makes sense to understand why they attacked without any warning.

Re: OOC

Hmmmm, let me think...

GM, what about the Romulan I hit? Did I manage to stun him, or are these two still running away?

Also, Bianca fired the second time. Does this count and, if so, what's the result?

I'll make the decision whether we continue firing once I know whether we took anyone down :)

Re: OOC

Bianca's second attack does not count, as she can only attack once per combat round.

QS does not say anything about stunning (what a surprise...), I would say landing a hit in game terms does not necessarily mean a hit in the narrative, like in D&D, otherwise no one would be able to move after the third combat scene. Both Uhlans have some Stress, I think it's better if they are only stunned when they reach 0 Stress. I think it also works nicely with the way injuries work. So yeah, you can order the others to keep them stunning as long as they can.

Re: OOC

So, who shoots now? :)

BTW. Regarding lethal and non-lethal damage - I might need to check the full rules for that, but I think that damage is usually non-lethal by default. And you need to declare the intent to deal lethal damage before making an attack roll. But I'll check and make you know.

Re: OOC

Hi, merry Christmas and happy New Year!

I probably won't post this year, the first two weeks of the next one is also filled, so availability will be spotty at best.

Re: OOC

I apologize for not being here for the last two weeks. There was Christmas, also I had my winter vacation, I was catching up with movies / TV shows / other stuff I had too little time for usually... Somehow, I ended up completely distracted from visiting RPOL.

Shall we continue? I hope my absence haven't killed the game...

Re: OOC

Games work better in an action-reaction manner. But man, this adventure is weird:

quote:
Once the Romulans have either been stunned by the away team
or retreated from their ambush (at the Gamemaster’s discretion),
allow the Player Characters to recover any Injuries if this is needed
then read the following aloud:
“Your combadges bleep with a communication from your starship.
As you respond, the captain’s voice tells you, ‘We’ve picked up a
new distress signal from the Susquehanna. She’s still out there,
and someone is alive and transmitting. Unfortunately, we’ve lost
contact, but at least we have something to go on. We’re departing
to intercept, but we need to you investigate the planet. Remain in
contact and we’ll rendezvous shortly.’

Soo many railroad plots.

One good thing with pbp rpgs, is that you can play as your time allows, no need to be constantly here. I still won't be replying next week, but after that we could try a bit faster game.

Re: OOC

I don't have the QS yet again, but you are in a contested area, so everyone (Starfleet, Romulans, Klingons and locals) are all trigger happy, as I often point out, it's a very combat heavy adventure.

Shremi did not explain what questions she asks exactly, but the answer will be something along the lines you beamed down to the forward scouts' position, and took it as an immediate attack.

Bianca overhears the answer and, while staying duly on sentry, as she expects another sneak attack anytime, she shakes her head.

Re: OOC

Just to clarify (as this is the OOC thread): is this the IC answer by the Romulan and we should continue RPing in the IC thread?

You are right: it looks like we moved a couple of posts from IC to OOC thread by mistake... happens.

Re: OOC

I'm not entirely sure why you rolled presence+security, but you didn't roleplay what you tried to do. It succeeded anyway, that's why I gave a quick overview about the answer.

Sorry, the whole thing happened because I did not have the QS at hand, and couldn't remember how the Romulans got here the first place.

Re: OOC

Yes, sorry. I had a bit of weird weekend and a busy Monday.

GM, regarding my roll: Presence + Security was what seemed most appropriate? Interrogating prisoners, suspects etc. is explicitly covered by Security according to the full rulebook. As for Presence, it made the most sense, as Shremi was trying to press the Romulan to speak with her force of personality. She wasn't empathizing with him (which would be Insight) or trying to beat a confession out of him (which would be Daring). Sorry that I didn't explain it better and that I didn't RP it better.

Re: OOC

I don't have any of the books right now (as always, I'm writing from work... :D ), so I can't chech. I was under the assumption, Security as a pressuring method was rather violent, as most of the Star Trek shootings and action fall into this category.

Re: OOC

Bianca, sorry for cutting in :) I just thought that, with Shremi being our ship's Security Chief, she'd be rather alarmed by crewmembers revealing to non-Star Fleet personnel our ship's mission goals... ;)

Regarding my roll - I think that Security is a skill set that covers all matters related to security, law enforcement etc. Not just fighting, but also investigation of crimes, interviewing / interrogating witnesses and suspects etc. The main rulebook has a lot of examples of Attribute + Discipline combinations, I can copy it for you guys, if you think it'd be helpful.
