Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

Ahh yes the crystals. STR DC15 with advantage to pry 1d4 crystals.
Everyone can make these rolls once, and I'll add up the total.

Five spigots smell of rusty copper, the sixth smells acidic.

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

Andromeda received the crowbar from Devan with a grateful smile, “Oh, this ought to do nicely!  Thank you very much, Devan.”  It was clear from the way the druidess fidgeted with the crowbar that she had no clue how to use it, and had probably never pried anything in her life.  She proceeded to feebly chip away at a sparkly shiny pink crystal, but made no headway at all.  The only effect of her efforts was to chip the crystal itself with no headway made at all upon the surface housing it.

The druidess sheepishly handed the crowbar back to Devan and said, “I’m afraid that I haven’t the slightest notion how to pry loose a stone.  Would anyone else care to try?”

In the spigot chamber, Andromeda relayed the results of the sniff check, “Five of the spigots smell like rusty pipes, as might be expected from old plumbing.  This one, however—“  She indicated one spigot in particular, “—will produce some form of acid.  Use with caution!”

21:06, Today: Andromeda rolled 5 using 2d20-1, dropping the lowest dice only.  Strength crystal pry (advantage).

EDIT: added a line about the spigots

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

"Tsk, tsk, let me Miss Andromeda." Devan says somewhat condescendingly, yet he did the exact same thing as Andromeda, failing to gather any crystals,"Oh dear, that's embarrassing, would anyone else like to try." the reporter says sheepishly.

13:20, Today: Devan Crier rolled 13 using 2d20, dropping the lowest dice only.  Str check.

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

''Here,'' Jhank gruffed, grabbing one of the crystals with her clawed hands and yanking, the pink crystal Andro had been eyeing popped clean off and the lizard woman handed it to her.

22:10, Today: Jhank rolled 20 using 1d20 ((20)).

22:10, Today: Jhank rolled 1 using 1d4 ((1)).

Why the hell did I put this in OOC first?

To boost the post count.

Jhank's crystal turned out to be a very large crystal that breaks cleanly in half, being worth two normal sized crystals.

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

Onyxclaw looked on as Jhank, with her menacing strength broke off a crystal, and shook his head. He put hi s pack down and reached into his pack. He clipped a small hose to the glove and climbed up, his tongue out as he climbed across the crystal, using his glove, a small hammer and a thin metal rod.

After a minute, there was a crack, and the kobold returned to Andromeda, smiling.

...holding a crystal

Travic raises his hand, and focuses. Trying to pull the crystal off the wall with the strength of his mind rather than his body.

OOC-What should I roll for using TK on crystal?

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

After a few minutes of team effort with the crowbar, including telekinetic prying from Travic, Andromeda gratefully received a handful of glittering crystals.  She held them up to her magical starlight, eyes wide with admiration as she cooed, "Sparkly shinies!  Thank you so much for collecting these, friends.  A most impressive effort.  When the time is right I will cast these to read the omens that will guide us to good fortune."

The druidess tucked the shiny crystals into a belt pouch and carried on to the chamber with five water spigots and one acid spigot.  She shone starlight from the celestial jewel upon the door ahead and said, "I see no gainful use for these spigots at the moment, so perhaps let's move onward?  Would anybody care to open the way?"

Light is active, and Guidance for whoever opens the next door to 22b!

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

Devan simply stares at the spigots for a long time, watching them. He snapped out of his trance when the next door opened,"Ah, of curse, they're is probably more important findings to find just in the other room." he says, then looks back at the spigots rather ominously and starts walking backwards toward the other room, not breaking eye contact at those spigots.

Re: Chapter 4: Arcane Chambers

Nestled between areas 22a and area 22c is a 10-foot-high, 10-foot-square room. A brass plaque bolted to the western door has the following words stamped into it in Dwarvish: "BREWERS ONLY! Others keep out! By order of Garrux, Master of Ale and Provisions."

Ohhhhh. The more you know....

You continue on. 22c:
Six stone vats, arranged in two rows of three, dominate this 20-foot-high room. The Melairkyn dwarves stored ale in these vats. Each vat is a hollow, slightly bulging stone cylinder 10 feet high and 10 feet in diameter, with 6-inch-thick walls. A copper spigot is embedded in the vats on the side facing the nearest wall, at a height of 3 feet. A narrow stone staircase curls up the exterior of each vat to the top, which is fitted with a hinged copper lid. The vats' interiors are lined with copper and have a pipe at the bottom.

A double door in the west wall has stacks of old barrels on both sides of it.
There are thirty empty barrels, all made of iron-banded zurkhwood (a woody fungus). Most are in such poor condition that they can no longer hold liquids without leaking. The doors are painted with images of two dwarves in profile, facing each other while standing on sideways barrels.

Four of the vats are empty, their contents having long since evaporated or been depleted.

A beholder zombie rises up out of the southwest vat, growls at you and zaps Devan.
Enervation Ray. DEVAN DC 14 Constitution saving throw, taking 36 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Travic gestures, and raises a wall of swirling sand between the party and the undead fiend. He readies the power for after the rest of his team acts.

OOC-Using Silent image invocation to block the view of us from the Beholder. DC 16 Int save to see through it, but only if the person saving realizes it is indeed an illusion. I am letting the rest of the party act frist before setting it up. Anyone who makes their Int save, or is told about the fact its an illusion in advance, it will be a transparent effect, and can shoot through normally.
