We should work out a city or vault to operate out of. Telric could have a deal with ether place to bring artifacts from the old world.

As he can bypass negative energy and feral ghouls without issue, he could be making trades for things he needs. Like healing potions with positive energy to keep his condition from getting worse.

Renata could be his contact to those areas that he is not allowed in due to his ghoulish nature.

That does sound like a good plan I suppose! Port Thornwood could be a good place to start with in that regard, if only because we start there and due to how ports usually have high trading traffic. There is actually at least one vault not too far away, I believe, though they're more interested in a Tome of Water Purification over any other materials or artifacts at the moment.

Of course, beyond the whole "human" thing, Renata's not going to be the best at dealing with others. She'll do her best though! I suppose we could also just hope that no one ever realizes that Telric is a ghoul. He's just...very interested in his own privacy!

Any stage one ghoul can be ID'd the second you get too close. Anything worse cant be hidden. The reason Telric, or any stage one ghoul wears a mask is because of the loss of the nose.

You start in: Port Thornwood, south of Anchorest.

It's a town, though, not remotely a city.

Renata knows of a vault, but that's a complicated situation right now...

Kinda. It feels really good to breathe clean air, but you don't actually have to do it to keep functioning.

Yes, ghouls-- we're pretty sure that even feral ghouls still sleep. (We know this because sometimes when feral ghouls are encountered, some or all of them are lying down.) (Ghouls can also sleep standing up, though. They are totally still, like statues, when doing this. They're slightly more comfy lying down, though, so they usually do.)

These are good questions, though, feel free to keep 'em up.

Is there a benefit for ghouls eating living humans? It seems they need an infusion of positive energy to hold back the progression of thier condition. Fearl ghouls hunt living thing for that reason I gather, although it does not seem to help them directly.

Does the person you feed on need to die?

Are ghouls able to spread thier condition to living humans?

Are there ghoul ogres?

Poisons, yes, but poisons are less effective than they are on alive things.

(Acid, now that works roughly the same.)

Ghouls are fairly resistant to disease... let's say, on average, twice as resistant as normal humans. It depends on the nature of the disease, though. No disease seems to ever actually kill them nor stop them being able to walk nor attack, though (though it may slow them down).

Can they simulate human body functions, like crying?


Feral ghouls have never yet been seen to cry.

Non-feral ghouls cry, but they don't actually emit tears unless they've had some water in the last 24 hours.

Sometimes the tears of Stage Four ghouls are dark gray or black.

Good question.

Yes, it DOES stop negative energy healing while it's working.

On the other hand, yes, it CAN help keep them from moving from the Stage they're on to a later stage, and also from going feral.

So it's a bit of a trade-off.

Predator animals (a giant scorpion, say, or a deathclaw) will attack ghouls just like anything else... but they don't eat them. (They might tear 'em apart, but they won't eat them.)

Problematic. You'd need to get a special blessed container to keep the source of negative energy from affecting them ALL the time...

But once that was set up, let's say that an injured ghoul (already in Stage 5) could take out the negative energy source, and use it to heal... but then they'd have to roll (Insightful) to keep from going feral... if they didn't go feral, they wouldn't need the potion or holy water. If they DID go feral, they wouldn't THINK to use the potion nor holy water...

Hmmm. As long as everything else is peaceful, I'm gonna say probably, but it'd take a roll. Probably Agile or Charming.

Pain hurts ghouls normally.

Ghouls don't really care about heat and cold unless it actually burns them or starts causing their ghoulish cells to freeze solid. Either would make them try to get away if possible.

Ghouls have good low-light vision, but not THAT much better than humans, even feral ghouls, which we know because it's still easier to sneak past them when it's dark than in bright conditions.

Yes, because staying near them (let alone fighting them) can cause intelligent ghouls to get pushed ever-closer to Stage 5 and beyond.

However, even glowing ghoul bodies that have been destroyed stop emitting (mostly. Sometimes one part, like the heart, keeps emitting).

How long can an intelligent ghoul be exposed to a source of negative energy before going fearl?


Presuming you mean the ghoul in question is already late-stage, then it depends on how strong the source is. If the source is weak, maybe hours. If the source is strong, then maybe only a minute... Or less, if the "source" = "being attacked by a strongly-glowing ghoul."

Vault humans are a little bigger and taller.

Pre-war people would say that "Vault humans are normal-sized," but that born-and-raised Wastelanders are "just a little more likely to be on the smaller and scrawnier side." Just like 2-and-a-half inches shorter on average...

OKAY TEAM SO FIRST OF ALL

We now have enough people willing to be each of the 4 playbooks.

ON THE OTHER HAND we in fact have two people willing to be Ogres (since that's the last one).

SO I WAS THINKING of having whoever wanted it more be an Ogre, and then having a 5th person (just because player attrittion due to Real Life Problems is SO common in RPol).

I was thinking of having a second human? A raised-in-the-Wasteland human, since we already have a Vault Dweller?

Do any of you three players already here have a problem with this?

Another hyooman would be alright with me! I've got no complaints here. It'll probably be nice to have someone who's both knowledgeable about the Wasteland and able to be perceived as (mostly) normal.

I will be your Ogre, with a twist, for this story.  While not generally subtle Big Eye tends to be at least interested in the fates of smaller creatures, sometimes even goes out of his way to help them.  For some reason one or more of you have caught his attention as someone who both needs help and might be interesting to watch.

Okay, we have our 5th and final member (whose name will NOT actually be what it looks like it is), a human who was already an adult when the curses fell, who joined the Brotherhood of Steel early on (in the Scribe chapter of things), but who got tired of the BoS's rigid politics so he left the BoS a few years ago to "freelance."

SO my new question for you all is:

Do you wanna play starting like:

1. Your characters all know each other already,

or

2. You are all about to meet each other for the first time?

My character can work both ways. He can have met any PCs out in the wilderness during his normal scavenging, and hired on as a scout. Or he could have met the PCs in the settlement selling his wares.  Or another NPC could have recommended him.

As far as my vote is concerned for "knowing" or "not knowing" each other, could there be a middle ground maybe? Maybe my character has run across Big Eye and/or Xan, and we all know each other,  and maybe Telric and Renata bumped into each other shortly after Renata left her vault, or something? Just an idea to help muddy the waters. But then there'd just be two groups of us that have to then get together.

Just an idea (we could work the groups out differently to, this was just one thought). If that's too weird or whatever, then let's just say we all know each other!

Is that... okay? Any objections?

I think you want the humans in separate groups.  Then put the most vault styled 'others' with the vault human and the more wilderness styled 'others' with that human.  Some of that will depend on what kind of vault it is, and what each character is like, but I doubt Big Eye is from anywhere near an open vault.

As opposed to me, who risks going feral if I spend too long in such places. However, I have the advantage of being able to sense things and areas high in negative energy.

In that case, I could insure Big Eye gets access to quality food and not stumble into high curse areas. At the same time, he could make sure intelligent beings don't decide to kill me out of hand just because I am ghoulish. Animals tend to avoid me because I am not good eating.

Plus, he can carry a lot of goodies! Making when we load up and head back to the settlement for trading we can make a serious profit.

70-30 even spilt, Big Eye. Did I say 70-30? I meant 60-40! Yes, that's what I meant...

Actually, they're okay with it except in certain extra-extreme circumstances. They probably shouldn't just stand around in a ground zero spot where a curse-cask broke open, but there are all KINDS of OTHER reasons that THAT's true...

At the same time, we have Tor(or Renanta) coming into the same settlement after searching some ruins and accidentally activating Xan, who now follows him(or her) around due to lack of primary user.

Renanta(or Tor), fresh from her vault(Or his BoS camp), bumps into the two groups even as she(or he) was given a map of where the closest settlement was.

In effect, we have some of the group knowing each other even as we do a 1st meeting of the whole party at the same time.

The pairings make sense to me! I feel like it might make more sense for Renata to happen upon Xan while still disoriented post Vault and post respawn as opposed to meeting and joining up with Big and Telric. Renata would probably not have the sense of mind to handle more than one person.

Roughly at the same time, Renata on her quest for a water purification device, stumbles across an invactive Xan and wakes her up. Xan's programming links her to the first human she comes across, so she follows Renata. Renata heads to same settlement the other players are going to.

Tor leaves the BoS camp on his own and heads for the same settlement. I am not sure of his backstory, but I am assume he is on a BoS mission.

All three groups(BE & TT, R & X, and solo T) get the settlement at roughly the same time, each group meeting the other for the 1st time.

That probably works best, it gives the two pairs an equal footing and no reason to presume party leadership by default from being the 'original' group of 3 that is then joined by others either solo or as a smaller group.

Which one character is solo isn't particularly important but having it be Big Eye seems like a bad idea, as surprising big dumb things tends to go badly.

No worries here, Tor! It can be nice sometimes to have a jerk in the group. It'll bring everyone else together!

On a more platitude-heavy note, the best part about starting out on the wrong foot is that the next step will be the right foot. Not entirely sure what that should mean, but it sounds nice.

I honestly don't think Renata has any experience whatsoever with non-human beings and just kinda has to default to either fear or treating them like humans. And since fear seems like the other guy's response, she wants to do the opposite.

In Xan's case, it's somewhat easy to just see and treat her like a cute little kid.

In Telric's case, I don't actually know! If Renata herself counts for ghoulphobia, it probably won't be for very long. There is probably some level of fear for now though.

Uh, the spirit of the rule was that they would treat you with respect like a (well-adjusted) person might a normal person.

Treating you with the same disrespect as they would treat a normal person is pretty much super not within the spirit of the rule.

I would be happy to reword the rule if that's confusing to you...

They may look like heck depending on how much negative energy they've soaked up, but ghouls don't die of old age, it's true. A Stage One ghoul who was 18 at the time of Cursefall may-- if they're very careful-- still look like an 18-year-old today... with terrible skin and no nose. But otherwise...

All I know is that Renata is meant to be roughly the same age as the Cursefall, or at least young enough to have believably never been outside her Vault in her life, which would make her anywhere between 20 and 22, if you don't count the first two years of someone's life as being actually part of their life (since she wouldn't have memories of that time).

As for our destination being Anchorest, no issues here!

Okay so I was just about to do that... when I realized that I don't think I ever actually posted about how to level up.

You level up when you get enough experience. But how do you get experience?

What I used to do was give 1 xp any time you just totally failed a roll, and when you'd accumulated enough xp points, you could level up. (Dungeon World pretty much uses this system.)


But what I've been preferring lately? Honestly? Has been the idea that the The Cast link records your posts-- Telric has 45, Renata 36 so far-- and that when you get to a certain number, you level up. (I usually like 100 for the first level, and then every 200 posts after that.) (And so yes, OOC posts would count, too.)

But... since I somehow insanely didn't make this rule written in stone yet... I thought I'd see which y'all might prefer...?

I suppose I would somewhat selfishly prefer the level-up-by-post system (partly because I tend to write a lot, even though that doesn't always translate to posting a lot and partly because I am afraid of failure, but whatever), but either one is good by me. If it comes to some sort of vote, then I'd be going with by-post-count, I guess?

...If we go by posts, you just level up when you get 100 posts, and again at 300 posts, and again at 500 posts. (100 for the first and 200 for each one after that)

Whichever way we do it, I'm offering a stat increase every time you go up a level.

I was thinking (whichever way we do it) that one would get to choose a Perk or Skill from the list each time, too.

(After all, that's the most like Fallout.)

I believe there were perks and traits in 1 and New Vegas, but only perks in 3? (Can't say anything about 2, I dunno).

If I remember correctly, the perks were mostly positive buffs that ranged from "you do this thing better" to "everything you kill with these weapons explode and blow up everyone around them in a mess of radioactive artistry".

And then the traits usually provided either some sort of neutral modification to the game, like "every death animation will be the most violent" or a buff that came alongside a debuff, like "you gain more perception when wearing glasses, but lose all that and more when not wearing them" or "you and your enemies both get critical failures more often."

Both systems as defined are terrible for the play by post environment.  OOC post count simply can't be separated from any kind of IC progression, which even then has little to do with post count.

The rolls don't happen evenly between characters, and the results surely don't.  Play by post tends to bias very strongly against even making rolls let alone doing so with enough frequency that the slower pace of most games allows for the characters to progress in an interesting way, let alone in a way similar to each other.

The best way to change levels in a play by post game (particularly considering player and character turnover rates) is to just do it.  The campaign started at some level, plays in that level until the campaign changes to the next level.  All characters are always the level of the campaign regardless of when they joined it.

If you absolutly must have a method in place for determining when that change of campaign level happens (and this can help even if just to remind the GM to do it) set some counter based on the accumulated total of events of some kind for all characters.

If you want to do post count do it per 500 total posts of the game, if you want to do it by dice roll failures like dungeon world accumulate all the failures from all the characters into one counter, and don't make it any bigger unless we somehow end up going to fast.

I think that's an interesting point. It does seem to me that new players should be allowed to come on board at the level of the lowest PC in the party... not that it matters just yet, since everyone's still currently at level 1.

I generally favor larger games, even in person, with 5-8 players so I may be a bit outside the statistical trend but I find RPOL games tend to suffer more inactivity problems the fewer players they have, and even then benefit from having a fairly regular influx of new characters at least up to 6 or 7 and can easily run in the 9 or 10 range without getting to busy.

Usually I find that groups larger than 5 or 6 are hard to manage in person, particularly when not everyone wants roughly the same thing from a game. (I personally enjoy running with 3 players in person. A lot more riffing happens and people rarely get left out.)

But this is play-by-post! Larger groups are usually good for frequency, though you can certainly run into a situation where no one knows if they should be the one to post next or for someone to get left behind when lots of posts happen very quickly. (As someone who can get a tad long-winded in a given post, that's even happened to me while preparing a post! Kinda funny, but also makes me somewhat somber.) I've seen plenty of games peter off into obscurity no matter how many people are involved. A smaller group often has a better balance between its players I've found, but that's just in my experience (and also depends on other factors as well.)

In any case, I'm happy to keep playing this one!

As an aside, one thing we should keep in mind is that this is game is fueled by all of our creativity and is not wholly beholden to any given rule beyond what we all agree to in a moment. If someone is lagging behind in terms of post count, and thereby game level, to the point where the game is not as fun or they don't feel as important, we could just arbitrarily raise their level or give them some sort of other boost. Or perhaps their level-ups, when they do happen, could be given more weight? I dunno. Giving out such exceptions might weaken our leveling system in theory, but I feel that's a small price to pay to keep everyone happy if and when that problem crops up. Not sure though.

Big Eye was correct (the first time). The aquamind attacked you because you attacked it.

If your attack roll had been 10 or better, it wouldn't even have gotten the opportunity to counterattack.

The water blast attack is like a fire hose (when successful)-- the point, normally, is to attempt to knock you down and/or maybe scrape you up in the process, depending on what's under you and/or behind you.

However, its damage roll was very weak, so it didn't do nearly enough damage to hurt you (especially since you're wearing leather armor), and it didn't even manage to knock you down.

Ah. It doesn't work that way.

How it works is:

--When you do anything, if you don't roll 10 or higher, something problematic will happen.

IN COMBAT, that something is MOST often gonna be that the NPC gets a counterattack.

UNLIKE Dungeon World, it's not AUTOMATIC damage against you-- I roll to see if the NPC is successful first.


SO. Let's say Telric somehow gets separated from the group, and runs into, say, a bunch of archers.

IF they've started attacking him first, it'd probably because he already failed-- for example-- a stealth roll.

But even then, they all shoot at him first... He's not gonna have to turn into a pincushion because of 10 archers. I'd figure out how much damage he'd take, and narrate.

Let's say I decide he's about to take 3 damage.

I would narrate that either they all missed except for the guy who did 3 damage, or that three of them hit him glancing blows that added up to 3 damage.

Now it's Telric's turn (hypothetically). If he decides to start shooting back, feel free to aim and shoot. If you roll lower than 10, THEN they shoot back again.

If you roll 10 or higher, whatever happens, they don't hit you again (yet).

Yep. And indeed, you chose losing ammo.

Good thing it had zero effect, save for narrative flavor.

Looking back, I think I kind of had a little zone of time there between your first attack and your second where I started getting back into the flow of how this sort of combat works and remembering "oh yeah, wait, okay, this is starting to feel familiar again... THIS happens like THIS when THAT happens..."

Sorry for the (completely harmless) inconsistency! I think I'm getting my footing better with every round...

I think there is intended to be some grey area on the narrative control as well.  If something that makes sense like counting off ammo, breaking weapons, or obvious consequences from some situation or setting element is included by the player then that generally happens.

But in some cases there is a need for unknown elements to be factored in and the GM can change the results by claiming precedence on the narrative control with a little bit of explanation or reveal of those mysteries.

In that case the players consequences would usually be negated, or heavily minimized in mechanical effect, to allow for the plot element to be involved without doubling up on a single roll.

I saw a mistake in the rules about moves where I used the wrong word ("stress" instead of "damage," a holdover from me adapting the rules from a different game), and while I was fixing that I realized I wanted to change how the REST move works.

Here is what I have now:

If I'm understanding you right, yes.

Say that you're using a medical kit, and then use the REST move, and roll a result of 8? You'll get 1d4+1 PLUS 1d3 HP back.

I think that 1d3 is what the medical kit does on its own, but it adds to the actual healing, not to the 2d6+forceful roll, so it is considerably more reliable and important for low force characters.

I suspect the healing potion leans a lot more into the 'magic' of the fantasy side of the setting, while the med kit is clearly an oversimplification but still very much technology and fallout based.

True enough. But clearly, our best option for healing is to mix a healing potion and a medicinal poultice together and then take some sleeping pills! Absolutely nothing could go wrong there and we'd be getting so much healing done!

--I think I'm fine with you picking up another rock to use in a hurry in this environment as long as you have a -1 to hit each time.

--However, you started with 3/3 ammo. I feel that to "refill" that after it turns to 0/3 ammo, so as to avoid the -1 penalty, would require an Insightful roll to search (outside of combat).

--So to put it another way: as long as you are at 0/3 ammo, you can keep firing anyway with the -1 to hit penalty, but if you then need to choose a Volley penalty, you can no longer choose "lose ammo."


So... would I be correct in guessing that you now need to choose a new penalty besides "lose ammo?"

The point being that any fist sized heavy object can be used by a sling, but to find smooth round river rocks of the right size to do the best job you really do have to search for them.

Sounds like we might want an Aid move.

This is the Aid move I would use:

AID:

--When you attempt to help another character, say how, and roll ONE d6. The character you're attempting to help can use this roll in lieu of one of their own roll's dice. (If more than one player helps them, they can only keep the best 1 die from amongst all Aid dice rolled). By using Aid, you will be exposed to any risks, consequences, or costs of their move, even if they didn’t use your die.

--If you roll a 1, the GM will probably put you at risk, make trouble for you, or make things worse in general, even if the GM can't think of any way for you to share the same exact problems as the character you tried to help.

Mm. What I don't like about it is that it slows things down.

Without an Aid move, if someone fails a roll, everyone else just says "welp sucks to be them, but I'll try to do something myself to make up for it." It doesn't really make things go any slower.

WITH an Aid move, any failed roll is suddenly up for improvement by a willing teammate.

But... Yeah. So. Anyway.

Do we want an Aid move, or no Aid move?




And speaking of things going slowly: So yeah, BEFORE now, I've just been tired from (gestures at all of 2021). But in the next few weeks I'm gonna be doing family stuff which will mess with my time even more, because Christmas. So... keep that in mind. I won't be gone, but I will very likely be absent//in-and-out.

The order of rolling for any kind of assisting function in PbP is very problematic.  If you really need to add an assist move, and I don't think you do, then it should just be a choice to expend their turn on the part of the assisting character.

Then the character being given the assistance rolls all the dice and keeps the ones they like.

It is quickly looking like we are NOT going to have a specific Aid move. And I'm okay with that (because I was fine either way-- I just want to decide now). It just means everyone will roll to help separately which we already seem to have started doing, from what I can tell from this thread.

So... no Aid move. Right? Any objections?

On January 22nd, 2017, 11:30 am west coast time you where outside. Maybe you where walking the dog. Maybe you where shopping. Maybe protesting. Maybe you where just enjoying the day.

Whatever you where doing, you noticed anything with a roof turn into a digital form of themselves and vanish. Buildings. Tunnels. Cars. Every living thing under one of those structures was gone, without a trace.

But they may not be dead. Because what happened at 11:33 am was a voice that sounded like one part Monty Hall, one part Don Pardo, and one part Carnival Barker. It spoke a language, but not like any language on earth. Yet somehow, everybody could understand it.

"Greetings, Humans! Your world has failed to register as a space capable or dimensional active planet in the last 50 solar cycles with the nearby Alpha Centauri office a mere 4.37 light years away. Your best bet as far as that goes would be to forge ahead to Anchorest... A barbarian tribe might also be particularly useful, but they're all ahead (as opposed to sideways or backwards), so...

Technically the bonus is to the next roll after the action you are ordered to do, but you could in theory maintain a significant chain of them by only succeeding, and only following direct orders.

Big Eye is not badly wounded, and was accompanying the wagon just fine without getting into it.  There is some question about how much of the stuff in the wagon we can drag with us, but beyond that it shouldn't matter.

ffs360 is a bit generic, but she looks kinda holy-esque without looking nun-ish in me humble opinion.

It looks like people rolled for an NPC reaction, but I don't see anything from the NPCs after that.

Big Eye isn't super useful in a battle of wits, so I tend to pay less attention to those details like he should.

I believe the healing rules are as follows:

When you rest for a few hours (at least 4), you may roll 2d6 plus your Forceful modifier.

--6 or lower: you get 1 HP back.

ALSO:
The average Healing Potion, if and when you find one, heals 2d3+1 hp at the end of your next post.

Repair Kits work in the same way for Automata.


Also available will be:

--Medical Kit: contains bandages and medicinal herbs that you can use to make a poultice (don't smoke them, they're not those kinds of medicinal herbs). Using a medical kit before resting adds an extra 1d3 to the results of your REST roll.


Assuming that's correct and that the med kit I used (or rather, asked Xan to use on me!) earlier counts here (or alternatively, bandages!), then...

Renata Medb rolled 10 using 2d6+1d3+1 with rolls of 5,3,1.  Resting time! Forceful + Med Kit from earlier.

--10 or better: You get 2d4+1 HP back.

Renata Medb rolled 7 using 2d4+1 with rolls of 2,4.  Healing time!

Yeah, there's enough bandages for each person to have one.

Each one gives you an extra 1d3 points on your Healing roll.

That's good! For the name, I went with Caleb for the sake of its connection to religion and its tie to faithfulness and loyalty. And then Parlan because it's close to the word Parlance, for the sake of speech (after all, Josiah speaks a little oddly sometimes and Caleb is/was the group's Speaker, so it felt appropriate). It looks like Parlan is also an existing surname, but I was having trouble discerning what exactly it was supposed to mean or be in reference to.

The Overseer has been out of the Vault before, so she might know about them? This group wasn't terribly large though, even before Cursefall, so it's up to you!

(JoJo the Reanimated Boyo died about a week before Renata left the Vault, I wanna say?)

--12 or higher: you tell me what you trade away and what you get-- You get a good deal overall, and you may also ask my permission for one special thing that you get.

I'm perfectly willing to roll on this (unless another non-Ogre non-Ghoul has an actually positive Charming mod! Or if they want to), but what do y'all think we should be trying to get?

Way earlier, I'd mentioned that Vault 365 produces "potatoes, maize, dill, cucumbers, and borage, alongside a couple of other flowers," and the Vault's also trying to grow "broc, prickly pears, and crabapples". (Of course, I also mentioned that they might not be able to trade much there... I suppose we could also expect the Vault to have farming supplies of sorts, though likely they'd already be using a lot of that... They might be interested in our giant frog meat, at least, since that would provide a bit of food variety! So that's something.

In any case, could I roll and then leave it as a group decision for what happens with the trading? (Within the roll results, of course)

If you mean what I'm guessing you mean-- that it should be said more clearly-- then yeah. (If you mean something else, then I guess not.)

The maximum for any stat is +3.

When it says, in the ogre playbook:

That other (emphasis mine) referred to "the other stats as in: the ones that aren't Forceful, as in, the ones that aren't already at the maximum."

Could/should that have been made more clear by me in the ogre playbook? Sure, it's a fair cop.

--Non-ogres were limited to only having starting stats below +3.

--After level 1, any stat may be raised to +3 (I mean, once it's already at +2), but that's the max, because +3 is kind of amazing.

Of course, for any not-hard-to-hit opponent that you're using Forceful to attack with, your new perk would in fact stack with your Forceful stat, therefore giving you +4.

(Of course, if it was something fast/small/hard to hit, like I dunno say I guess a bloodbug or stingwing or who-knows-what, you'd very possibly need to roll Agile to hit it-- but at least your new perk would help with that, too)

It needs to be properly tanned in the first place...

I'll let you (or one proxy) roll Charming to see if that can be done here...


Either way, though, if we're going to carry lots of stuff around, y'all really need to invest in a super-sturdy bag or chest or something before you go...

The Vault-Dwellers' master tanner tells you that he can tan the hide and turn it into anything you want for a price that's actually not too inflated... the main problem is that it will take some days (and it's clear you aren't all welcome to stay and wait). It'll be ready for you when you come back this way, though...

If the levels mattered more it might be a good idea to apply them as part of the story itself, but as they do very little from an overall mechanics perspective we may as well just leave it.

The power armor torso has been destroyed (the basic frame that connects the pieces together is fine, though. Those are pretty darn hard to damage).

The arms and legs also still function, but they are too big to fit an ogre.

(Thinks) I think I have seen ghouls in power armor sometimes, though... I have in 76 once or twice, anyway, I'm pretty sure.

The gear thread says any incomplete set of worn powered armor counts as heavy armor, except that it has a weight of 1 per piece.

AH. I think the weight should just be if you're carrying it around but NOT wearing it. I don't think it should count against you if you're wearing it.

Okay... so.

Someone just messaged me and said "Wow, I love the idea of this game, this is totally my jam, can I join?"

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

Renata was the last to post, basically saying "okay guys, maybe we should go over there now? What do you think?"

And then nothing happened.

And, you know, it's 2023, and everyone's real life is pretty much kinda a nightmare of health issues and late-stage capitalism and fascism, so, like, I get it, so I haven't pushed.

(And also, it's been my experience that like 65% OR MORE people on RPol are involved in education in some way? So in mid-to-late April, it doesn't seem too weird that people start having extra Real Life Issues? But Still?)

But now here's this lovely-seeming person who wants to join, so...?

I'm here to see where we all are in our headspaces.

I tend to find larger games work better for this very reason. Particularly with even one quiet character.  New blood is also helpful.

Okay, so we're all gonna go look in the lighthouse.

I'll just tell you right now-- I don't plan to put any new monsters or threats in it. (Whether or not there's anything else interesting remains to be seen, but no danger.)

I had wondered if our new player's PC might be in there, but I haven't heard back from them yet about what kind of PC they might want. So:

--REST:
When you rest for a few hours (at least 4), you may roll 2d6 plus your Forceful modifier.
--10 or better: You get 2d4+1 HP back.
--7-9: You get 1d4+1 HP back.
--6 or lower: you get 1 HP back.


So, yeah, feel free to use that if you need it. Some of you do.

We've got the plaque (and once we're through in the area, we should drop that off at the Vault), but there're still a few things in the area! I'll list them with the most recent relevant info, in ascending order of important:

First: 'Brother'

I mostly try not to remember to many details when playing a character like Big Eye, I assess things in the moment, then fit them to the character, and ignore any past connections because there is no way he is keeping track of that.

Yes. Like Fallout, most automata seem either soulless machines (the guy who brought you in this building) or like silly mockeries of human personalities (the guy you're talking to with the wiggly mustache).

Renata, I think the simplest way to handle this is when you post, say what Xan is doing too, and roll for her if needed.

Xan's player is in a couple of my other games, so we're "writing around" her health there, too.
