THE WASTELAND

Stuff everyone knows:

This country (was): Sefonia

The enemy country (was): Ossau

The territory they were fighting over was: The Northern Isles of Dhan


Sefonia used to be a beautiful and prosperous place... and strong. Everything ran on magic... automata farmhands and servants, high towers with lifts powered by magic, the army and navy were all very magical because many of the best mages were in the military...

There were rumors about the military experimenting with very dangerous black magic... but that was just to help defend Sefonia against the land of Ossau, which was almost as powerful as Sefonia... Ossau didn't curse Sefonia because they knew Sefonia would curse them back... each nation was kept in check by "Mutually Assured Damnation."

But one day... no one knows for sure who started it... the curses fell anyway. Giant flying undead dragons carried huge casks from far to the west, and when they dropped the casks, they burst.... and all manner of evil spirits burst out, cursing the land.

--Now most of the automata still function, but half the time, the elemental spirits inside them are violent and attack anything that moves...

--Many people were accursed and turned into ogres... big hulking brutes who want to eat humans... 99% of the time. There's often that 1% of the time that they are big and brutish and violent but aren't so keen on eating humans... or even fighting them...

--Many other people who were accursed turned into ghouls... Some losing their minds (and wanting to kill and eat people)... but some not losing their minds (nor wanting to eat people)...

--Many animals grew and/or changed as a result of the curses... especially insects and bugs and arthropods-- ants, mosquitos, scorpions, spiders, mantises, crickets, moths, bees, but also crabs, crayfish... and toads, salamanders, geckos, rats, mole rats, bats, wolves, bears, dogs (oghounds are accursed hounds that ogres keep as pets)... and, perhaps worst of all, the reptilian creature known as the deathclaw, rumored to have been magically created right before Cursefall as a sort of biological warfare being prepared to be released in Ossau...

--All humans not turned into terrible monsters have had to survive in the Sefonian Wasteland... Although some survived by escaping into blessed Vaults... only now, 20 years later, starting to emerge and learn what the world has become...






The gods were:
--Celadel, goddess of war
--Rhyse, goddess of Healing
--Noric, god of Freedom and The Stars
--Anthan, god of thieves and darkness and rebellion
--Mab: goddess of madness (and therefore berserking), wildness, and ancient things/very old stories/the wisdom of old people
--Ossein: God of revenge, oaths, and suffering (including martyrs).


Factions:
--The Brotherhood of Steel
--The Sisterhood (of Rhyse)
--Various Raider Warlords
--The Friendly Ghoul Caravan
--The Wasteland Rangers
--Talon Company Mercenaries
--Various barbarian tribes
--Various cults


Major cities of Sefonia (were):
--Anchorest, on the east coast
--Ulien, the capital of Sefonia
--Trevisi, north of Ulien, (once) home to Fort Vigilance
--Vierna, south of Ulien

You start in: Port Thornwood, south of Anchorest.
