Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

In a short while, Pascal and Magnus are inside Bellevue.

Walking the halls, Pascal wonders where Mr. Lupus is.

Once you give your credentials, you are quickly and politely ushured into the office of Kurt N. Peter, the psychiatrist caring for Kate Rowlins.

There is a large painting on the wall of Peter's office depicting a scene from the story "Peter and the Wolf." There is a statue of a wolf on his desk, and another -- a reproduction of the famous wolf suckling Romulus and Remus -- by the window.

Many books line the walls.

Dr. Peter is a stern man with big bushy eyebrows who speaks with a thick German accent.

"Dr. D'Encre, it iz a great honor to meet you. I have great, GREAT respect for your work on killers. And, hehe, you are responsible for our most famous resident, Mr. Lupus. No worry -- he is not wandering ze halls!

"You too, Mr., er, Magnus.

"But you are here for Ms. Rowlins, no? She is in great shock,"

OOC: As usual, I want an EDU roll from you here.

Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

Pascal looks around the room with a vague unease.  Wolves everywhere.

"Yes, I am here to see Ms. Rowlins.  Other than the obvious, what can you tell me about her?  How is she coping?  What all has she said?"

He turns to face the doctor directly.  "Forgive me, Dr. Peter.  Thank you for meeting with me.  I do want to see her and speak to her myself, but first I'd like to hear what you know.  Get your insights before I meet with her.  I'd like to go in with as much information as possible."

"Miss Rowlins iz in shock. Zo far, she iz completely unresponsive."

You can see Simon Magnus looking over Dr. Peter's bookshelves with interest.

"She has suffered a very great shock and iz fragile. I am reluctant to let you see her, I must say. It may damage her."

Simon Magnus looks up and says, idly, "you have almost the same name as Peter Kurten, the famous Dusseldorf Vampire. What a coincidence!"

Dr. Peter responds, curtly, "YES. I KNOW."

OOC: it will take a Psychoanalysis role and some appropriate role-playing to impress Dr. Peter with your competence as a colleague enough to let you see Rowlins.

"I certainly understand you reluctance, doctor," he said calmly.

"So, from your expert perspective, what can you tell me about her current condition, other than she is in shock?"

Dr. Peter saus, "She iz totally nonresponsive. Sits zer like a little rabbit, frightened, but not moving. Deep shock."

Simon Magnus nudges your arm and nods toward the bookcases, where you see that there are an awful lot of books on cannibalism and lycanthropy alongside the medical texts.

OOC: as mentioned in the PM, feel free to Push or spend Luck to make that roll a success.

"Not a word, Dr. D'Encre. Not a word. She needs time."

OOC: I need to know if you want to push the roll (and if so, how) or spend Luck on it; if you don't, he's not letting you in and the meeting is pretty much over.

Re: Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

Pascal furrowed his brow.  He hated this bullshit dance.

"Look, Dr. Peter...  This monster has already killed three women in just three days.  There's no time for this back and forth.  I need to see her and you know it.  Lives are literally at stake."

He turned, fingering a couple of knick-knacks on Peter's desk, then led with the only threat he had left.

"There's a task force, of which I'm a part, to catch this killer.  The mayor wants this taken care of.  Now.  If you try to stand in the way, the mayor himself will run you over."

He made eye contact with Dr. Peter again.

"You know we can be back here with a warrant in no time.  Things are very hard right now.  Please don't make them harder."

Re: Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

Dr. Peter thinks. His eyes move to the statue of Romulus and Remus, stay there for a while, and then go back to you.

"Alright, Dr. D'Encre. I vill take you to her. But I vill be present and assist in the conversation. If anyzing goes wrong, I vill end it."

He leads you and Magnus out of the office and into the wing where the patients are kept.

He stops before one door, unlocks it, and leads you inside. He locks the door.

In this room sits Karen Rowlins. She sits on a chair in front of a desk.

She does not acknowledge your entrance, but stares into space.

Dr. Peter says, "Ms. Rowlins, here. You have vistors. Zis is Dr. D'Encre and Simon Magnus. Zey are friends."

OOC: whenever you ask her something, make a Psychoanalysis roll. Because Peter is assisting you, this is done with advantage.

Re: Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

Pascal moved gingerly, stepping into Kate's field of vision.

"Ms. Rawlins, hi," he began slowly.  "My name is Pascal.  I'm sorry to disturb you but I need to ask you a couple of questions.  I know this is hard."

He knelt gently in front of her, trying to occupy the space she seemed to be staring at.

"What can you tell me about the other night?  You were walking home with your roommate Lori."

He waited a beat, looking for any sign of recognition.

"What happened?"

Dr. Peter says, "it's all right. You are safe here."

She blinks. Blinks again.

She's responding to stimuli now. But is not conscious.

You continue speaking with her, but without further progress.

Riiiing! Riiiing!

Your cell phone goes off. Looking at it, you see it's Sgt. MacGarnagle calling you.

Riiiing! Riiiing!

Dr. Peter ushers you out of the room as quickly as possible, so as not to disturb Rowlins.

That's all you can do on this day. You can return tomorrow and try to bring her further out of her shell (or Dr. Peter can do it, if you ask him). This woman is deeply traumatized, and will not be brought to a functioning state immediately.

Re: Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

The phone startled the hell out of him.  He jumped a bit and immediately swore under his breath.  He waited until he was fully into the hall before answering, mouthing "sorry" to Dr. Peter.

Damn the timing.

"D'Encre," he said brusquely.

"Doctor, it's MacGarnagle. Just calling to let you know. We had CSI go over the crime scene last night, and we maybe got something. There's a footprint. A shoe. A big shoe. Maybe it belonged to our perp.

"And here's the thing. It looks like this kind of shoe stopped being made about 50 years ago."

Re: Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

Pascal's face turned red as he heard the news.  Interrupt his session over a fucking shoe?

"Ok, what do you want me to do about it?  I was in session with the witness at Bellevue and your call just blew it."

He took a deep breath, suddenly wishing he'd done that be answering.

"Sorry, MacGarnagle.  It was touch and go to even get in to see her, now it's over for the day.  No way I can get back in until tomorrow.

"What's the plan with the shoe?"

"Uh, sorry, doctor.

"There's no plan with the shoe. It's just evidence -- someone there was wearing a big shoe, that hasn't been made for a while. You're the task force; you should know."

He speaks rather petulantly, and hangs up.

Simon Magnus walks up to you. He says, quietly, "Dr. Peter's library is very strange. It looks like my library! Cannibalism, werewolves...

"What was the call about? A shoe?"

Re: Pascal, Magnus, and Bellevue

"Yeah.  Apparently they found a shoe.  It's big and old.  They haven't made the shoe in fifty years or something."

He let out a deep sigh, thinking.  He didn't care about Peter's library.

"Guess I'll call Vinnie, see what the plan is."

Maybe it would be best to discuss what to do in OOC, as opposed to jumping from thread to thread.
