Edward Lovat gets an invitation not to be missed.

Edward isn't from the New York area. But his misty hometown of Kingsport isn't far off really, and, in fact, his sister Jennifer lives in upstate New Work, in that obscenely big house and that even more obscenely rich husband -- the one that Edward doesn't like. He's spent a lot of time in New York. Lived here for years, really. So he could be considered a New Yorker, almost, if you squinted hard enough and drank enough before you made that judgment.

But, since becoming the star of Darkness Walks, it seems like he's spent more time either in Hollywood or in whatever creepy derelict graveyard/asylum/mansion was the subject of this week's game of "look for a ghost, and find no ghost!".

So it's good to be in New York again. Edward has a couple of weeks of freedom until they start shooting again.

Edward looks around his apartment. Books, books, books. More books.

That folio sitting there on the desk. The one he found like ago. He still can't read the damn thing. Edward is starting to think that this was the scrapbook of some deranged schoolgirl.

Promo posters for Darkness Walks!,

He looks at the calendar. October 25, 1999. Monday. 6 days to Halloween.

Thank God the Halloween special is already filmed! Maybe I'll have time to see Jennifer.

Ring!

Edward picks up the telephone. He recognizes the voice of Bob Schmell, his agent, almost before the later begins speaking.

"Edward! EDWARD! Wow, have I got an offer for you! Unheard-of! You won't believe this! Have you seen the papers??!?"

OOC: with a successful Luck roll, you have.

A furrow creased Edward's brow as he stood next to the bureau where he kept the phone; he'd glanced through the papers while having a coffee this morning, but usually he didn't pay much attention unless there was anything that he could tie into the show with an occult angle. The big story had been the murders, of course. The furrow deepened; what an agent and an actor considered a great opportunity didn't always align, though thus far Bob had been pretty savvy in not steering him wrong.

"The dead girls? It's not a mediumship gig is it, Bob? You know how dicey that shit can be with recent crimes, people can find it ... tasteless."

Not that Edward personally gave a flying fuck about the sensibilities of Joe sixpack, but his persona depended on a certain integrity and sensitivity. As he talked, Edward doodled on a pad of post-its he kept next to the phone, random spirals and squiggles that he incorporated into each other to make a meaningless jumble.

18:00, Today: Edward Lovat rolled 38 using 1d100.  Luck >40.

You've seen the news -- two young women were killed in the SoHo neighborhood, one found some time after midnight yesterday and another early this morning. You don't recollect looking at the details.

Bob Schmell speaks in his "excited agent" voice.

"Ed, I was contacted by the District Attorney!

"These two girls were murdered, and it seems weird. I mean, something weird about how they died. Like a cult or something.

"I guess they watch Darkness Walks! Because, get this, they want you as a consultant on their special task force! As an expert consultant!

"Can you f'ing believe what kind of publicity this is, Ed? Oh my God."

Edward's hand stilled as he processed what Bob had said. This really was something on a different level, with the kind of credibility working on a police case brought, you could get a book deal, maybe a "based on a true story" movie - the whole works. He began twizzling the pen rapidly between his fingers like a drumstick.

"Are you for real? Unsolved Mysteries is going to piss themselves in envy! When and where do they want me? Should I bring some books, or equipment, or something..."

He trailed off as he hurriedly cast his gaze around the room, tucking the phone under his ear to grab some books nearby that might have some information on more modern cult organisations and beliefs.

"FOR REAL. Can you imagine it? 'Ed Lovat -- Cop Consultant'! The ratings, man! So you get your ass down there. It's, uh, City Hall, Conference Room 2B. AT 8 pm."

Do you want to do something between then and now, or should I move you to the briefing?

OOC: I think Edward might skim through his books for anything on ritual sacrifice and modern day cult beliefs, depending on how much time he has, just to refresh his memory. But otherwise I'm happy to skip forward.

You have a lot of books and nothing to go on, so you don't have any success.

Now, when you hear some of the details, that might be different...
