Info & House Rules

Preface

The Out of the Abyss module is an incredibly deadly and hazardous one, where sudden and sometimes even anticlimactic death is always around the corner; while I will do my very best to keep your character(s) alive, I cannot guarantee it.

However! For those bold (or foolish) enough to seize every possible opportunity that comes their way - for good or for ill - they will find that it may serve them well in the long run.

The Underdark can be a truly horrifying place, at times. Be sure that you are ready to think strategically, and to accept the costs of survival.

Info

  • When it comes to posting rate, I would like a pace of 1-2 posts per week
  • I check this website about every other day, so if you've made a post or have any questions you can expect a response within 48 hours of doing so
  • The game will be played as a past tense story, meaning posts will be "the party rode into town" not "you ride into town"
  • If you don't understand something or if something doesn't look right please don't hesitate to either post in the OOC thread or PM me.

House Rules

  • Food & Water: Usually, during face-to-face tabletop games, it is tedious and unimportant to keep track of how much food and water you have; this is not the case for PbP, so food and water will be very important
  • Health Potions: Drinking a Potion of Healing or a Potion of Greater Healing (not any other potion, unless specified) is a bonus action rather than an action. Administering one to another creature is still an action.
  • No Healer? No Problem: Don't worry about making a healer if you don't want to, because if there are no healers or there aren't enough healers/healing then I will implement the "Healing Surges" adventuring option found on page 266 of the Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG). Additionally, I will do my best to include more Potions of Healing when it comes to loot.
  • Flanking: The flanking rule is in effect, giving advantage on attack rolls against a target when an enemy of the target is engaged with it on the opposite side of you. You can't flank if you can't see your target, and you also can't flank if your target is incapacitated. Creatures Large or larger in size can also flank.
  • Critical Hits: When a character rolls a 20 on a twenty-sided die to hit a target, they take the maximum damage that their damage die can deal, roll the damage dice, and then add their damage bonus. For example, if someone scores a critical hit and normally does 2d6+4, they take 12 (maximum dice damage), roll 2d6 and add the result to the total, and then add 4.
