The disc slowly rises up giving you a breathtaking view across the city of Sharn and the surrounding sea. For once you are above the majority of shadows as cast by the tall towers. The disc stops and you arrive in a wide plaza designed as a small park, with beautiful scented flowers and trees around you.

People in expensive clothing wonder about you, several trailed by what appears to be servants. You spot a few city watch on the far side of the plaza and even they seem to be dressed far grander than their fellows lower down.

A shadow falls across the plaza and you look up to see the crown jewel of Sharn floating overhead.

Dei whistled at it as she headed towards the address she was given.

You don't have much problem finding the address, its a small property set in its all grounds, possibly the entire top section of a tower that stretches down to the slums below, you aren't sure.

You are able to walk down the path, and approach the door. It's made of heavy wood, and inlaid with golden designs, the frame is made of carved marble. Beside the door is a bronze bell, with what looks like a silk cord hanging from it.

Dei carefully approached the silk cord and range it.

The bell have out a series of musical chimes, and after a few moments a liveried servant answers the door, you get the feeling that the half-elf is looking down his nose at you. "Yes, can I help you?" He said in a fastidious tone.

"Uh, hi! I'm Deiluci Scarmiglione, Lady Daweldin sent for me," Dei said.

The man sniffed "Ah, yes the Lady said she was expecting a guess" he gave you a look over and tutted to himself "If you would follow me please" he said as he lead you into the house.

The inside didn't really match the exterior, it was full of shelves stuffed with books, scrolls and old seeming objects. Where there wasn't shelves there was boxes, and storage chests. You were led up a flight ofvstairs, where some of the steps were more scrolls that step, down a short corridor with tapestries lining the walls and into what appeared to be a study.

Much of the room was taken up by yet more book cases and stacks of book, the far end of the room was relatively empty, the main pieces of furniture being a large desk and some chairs sitting behind the desk amlost obscured behind a large book sat on a reading stand you can just make out a half-elf women seemingly absorbed in reading the book and making notes.

"Lady Daweldin, a Ms Scarmigilone to see you" the person Lady Daweldin looked up a confused expression on her face "What?  Who?" She said as her eyes fell on you and something like recognition appeared in them "Ah excellent yes, please join me" she said gesturing to a chair.

"Tea if you would, Jevrees" she said to the servant before turning back to you.

Dei took the seat.

"It's nice to meet ya, Lady Daweldin, but I do have to say I'm plenty shocked ya called for me."

"Well you come highly recommended. I asked my dear friend Flicker who he'd suggest for a certain task and it was your name that came up" Lady Daweldin said "He said your the best he has and that he'd match you against someone from House Tharashk, which is no small praise"

"Ah, okay. So what can I do you for?" Dei asked.

"I want to keep you on retainer to find things for me" Lady Daweldin said "Sometimes, books, some times ancient artifacts" she came out behind the desk and you realise she is sitting in a wheelchair "You'll be well compensated and I'll not require you to prioritise my requests over your work for Flicker Investigations"

"That offer is more than reasonable. Ya got yerself a deal," Dei said.

"Excellent" Lady Daleweldin said "Then you my call me Valrine" she said offering her hand. "May I call you Deiluci?"

"If ya wish. Ya could calm me Dei if ya want," Dei said giving her a hand a shake.

"Dei then" Valrine said smiling "Come I'll show you what I am working on currently" she said moving back round to face the open pages of the tome.

"This is supposedly a journal from one of the architects that King Galifar the first used to help rebuild Sharn" she seemed quite proud of the find "Mostly it deals with his every day troubles, conflicts at work, love and the like" I've been trying to transcribe it into something more easily readable by modern readers"

"That is interesting. I'm sure it'll be a big hit. The people here seem to love their city," Dei said.

Varlrine looks at you for a long moment as if trying to decide if you were serious or not "Yes they do, but it's surprising how little we know about some of its history" she said touching the books cover "Which I suppose leads us to our first task for you" she said opening a draw and pulling out a parchment "I'm hoping you can find a different journal, it belong to a court wizard called Eldrith Shadowcaller" she handed the paper over to you "This contains the notes I have to date on him and his journal"

Dei read the note.

The note mentions that he was a wizard who lived during the time of the War of the Mark and had been part of the army that fought against House Tharkanan, and that he may have been involved in the sealing of the old city.

The journal had existed in various royal libraries, but had disappeared for some time during the last war. Rumour had it that it was now in Sharn, having been taken as loot during the war, it's possible that its currently in the university district, as the it was meant to be written in an obscure dialect.

"I can get started on that right away," Dei said. "But a letter a introduction or somethin' similar'd help. The guards were givin' me the stink eye when I was comin' up."

Valrine nodded "Of course, of course. She digs up some parchment and writes the letter for you "I'm afraid the watch that get posted up here tend to be... judgemental of anyone from the lower levels" she passes you the letter and paused "I also heard from Flicker you sing? is that true?"

"I do, I also play the fid, er, violin, piano, flute and lyre," Dei said.

"A most impressive selection of skills" Valrine said smiling "I shall have to come hear you some time"

"Thanks," Dei said, sincerely. She was still feeling a bit awkward about seeing a noble.

"Are there any other questions?" Valrine asked you.

"No, ma'am. I'll get started lickety split," Dei said, standing up.

"Thank you" Valrine said and picked up a small bell on the desk and rang it "I'll get Jevs to take you back out. I look forward to your results"

"It's been good meetin' ya<" Dei said with a polite bow.

The same manservant you met before returns and politely leads you out, he doesn't say anything as he deposits you back at the front door and then closes it behind you.

Dei headed for the first university.

You arrive back at Lady Dalwin's mansion, and are once again lead into the mansion and up to the same room it seems like she has not left, the only real change is a plate of half eaten food to one side of the desk.

"I found the diary ya wanted," Dei said. "But I should warn ya, some real unsavoury types want it too."

"That was impressively quick" Valrine said as she moved out from the desk and took the journal "People are after it? That is unsettling" she did not seem quite as surprised at the news as you would have thought.

"Yeah, some weird pseudo-house-thing with a bunch of them abba-rant dragon marks," Dei said as she explained things.

Valine listens carefully occasionally asking for a point of clarification "Well damn" she cursed softly "This was not how I planned this"

"Do ya have guards or anythin' like that?" Dei asked. "And any idea why they'd want the diary?"

"I don't have any personal guards, I'd have to rely on the watch" Valrine said "Probably because its likely there are clues to how the lower levels are sealed"

"Perhaps ya should hire some while yer using the diary," Dei said.

Valine nodded "You are probably right, I shall attend to it" she looked at Dei closely "What about you though? Are you not worried they might take losing the diary personally?"

"I've been in their business enough that I doubt this changes anythin'," Dei said.

"Well if you're sure" Valrine said and handed you a pouch of money "Your payment"

"Pleasure doin' business with ya," Dei said. "I look forward to the next one."

You leave the mansion, the satisfying weight of the coin pouch on your person a reward for a job well done.

Dei headed back to the tavern.
