Heaven's Masters - RTJ and Character Creation

Welcome to Fallen Stars Over Heaven's Way, a foray into a Godbound sandbox adventure taking liberal inspiration from some of my favorite media. The goal here is to create a flexible living world inspired by eastern religions and myths, stories of demigods, as well as some modern games and fiction where the actions of the player characters will reverberate throughout the setting and create escalating stakes. We won't be using the default setting of Godbound, but it's rules for handling legendary heroes, demigods, wielders of dread sorcery, masters of the martial arts, and more are perfect for this. As a result, I need to make sure the players I recruit are onboard for collaborating towards a common theme, so I'll be looking for the following in your RTJ.

  1. A character concept - A name. A face. A legend. I don't need a long backstory. Rather, I want a good idea of how your character achieved their flickering embers of diving power and to what end they hoped to use them. Were you an itinerant demon hunter who invited a strange spirit to share their body? Did a falling piece of star lodge itself in your right hand? I also want an idea of what your character will look like and what sorts of themes they'll evoke. A reference picture is useful, but I definitely want something written as well. We'll be writing together a lot, after all.

  2. Some place amazing that you've been - This is your chance to start filling out the setting a bit. Did your character stumble through an ancient forest of trees and happen upon an ancient spring whose crystal waters reflected the spirits of the dead? Did they find themselves in mirror world of an ancient temple inhabited by demon monks? It doesn't have to be quite that fantastical, but don't just make it a boring village. Lend the world some color here.

  3. Some place you want to go - This is similar to the last point, but will be part of your character's future. This is a place you know to exist, and for whatever reason, you want to go there. Perhaps there is a secret hidden in their ancient library that you desire. Perhaps the island that rises from the center of Red-Water Lake every 10 years holds a bell whose toll cures all illness.

  4. A rumor you've heard - Finally, this is the something strange your character has heard that adds just a bit more mystery to the setting. It may be true. It may not be.

A character sheet won't be necessary yet, but if you're accepted, I'll want a finished one within the week. I've seen too many games fizzle and die in the planning stages because people stumble at the starting line.

Character Creation

Character creation will be standard for Godbound with the following notes/changes;

  1. Characters begin with one extra point of effort and influence. Having just a bit more resources at the outset is just generally more fun.

  2. Strifes are available with the standard cost of 1 gift point for the first and final techniques and 1/2 for the 4 intermediate ones.

  3. All published words from the core and lexicon are available except concept words, engineering, and network.

  4. There will be some changes on the back end to how enemy creatures work that involve limits to their extra actions (they won't get movement with them, they can only use their attacks once per turn, they won't roll straight damage as frequently). This will likely also come to bare on any creatures summoned/created by the players, so if that's key to how you want to play, talk to me about it.

This is all I'm planning to implement for now, but I'm potentially open to suggestions. If I decide to change something later, I'll give everyone as much notice as possible and do my best to compensate anyone adversely affected by changes.
