"First of all, let's light all the torches we can." Ryu uses flint and steel to create sparks and illuminate all the room with the torches.

Group You light several of the wall torches.  They ignite with ease but burn with a strange purple light not the normal flames that you are used to.

John's brow furrowed as he looked at the flames burning an odd color. "Did they put salt in the tar of the torch?" He gave the flames a close look hoping to see if it was alchemical or magical in effect after he pulled out a small flask and took a swig of something medicinal.

21:50, Today: John Smythe rolled 33 using 1d20+20.  Alchemy check. -3 as its not to create an alchemical object but to inspect. my mess up there. so a total check of 30.

Sakura nods at the wounded man. "Remain here. I will help the others. Your life is in danger if anyone knows you are not missed anymore." She tells him and goes back to the others. "Well, we have a masked Ninja." She announces. "And some nice lights, I see."

John You look into the strange colored torch.  You don't see any salt or other material that might indicate that it is alchemical in nature. You do notice though that the flames give off light but no heat.  They are the only ones that do this the rest of the castle's torches that you saw were the normal ones you are used to even though they were only used in the basement the rest of the castle used outside light or lanterns.

Group You see Sakura come back into the room and make her statement.

OOC: If anyone has spellcraft they can use it.

"Its likely just everburning torches but I have come to learn that outside of the overt discipline you all have, many of you are lethally intelligent. So being paranoid has served me well. The right salt in the torch tar could make poison, the burning funny colors just set me to wondering." That and when Nymph glowed funny colors people exploded.

Jonh Your best guess is that is a version of an everburning candle.  You've heard of this idea from a tome that you read awhile ago, the name Calthoon, comes to mind.  You're not sure but this seems like a successful attempt at what has been an idea until now.

With no answer he started on the left most door and would work his way right. It was what made the most logic considering he was not very well educated on the building styles.

Ryu You open the door and take a look. Inside you see a fireplace on the North wall there is a long table with various cooking tools hanging above it along with pots and pans, all well beyond use.  There is a door on the East wall which is closed.

As per the routine that was being set up John moved forward to check the door if it was locked and if there are traps but in reverse of that order. 21:06, Today: John Smythe rolled 12 using 1d20+8 ((4)).

He also looked to see if there are any fresh signs someone came through other than the group he was with.

The best bet is to follow traces of use. It is a big place and its faster to track. But do keep an eye out for buttons like the last one. Avalonian guy in a new world, better to avoid pit traps.
